  • In my previous video we adjusted the height of the Minda probe, so now it's time to go through the filament loading and first layer cal so we can get our Z-height set and start our first print.
    I misspoke about the rocket it was designed by Jason Suter and can be downloaded here:

    Finally! A video where someone explains and shows you what to do clearly enough so that a newbie like myself can have the confidence to try it without fear of doing something wrong (or mostly not damaging my new printer lol). Thank you, thank you, thank you. This is better than the PRUSA video and instructions.

    Just got my Mini and had to set the value about -1.300mm took me a few hours to get that value. This is my first 3D printer, enjoying myself now it's set.

    Why does my model print that little zig-zag front to back instead of Luke it does it the video? Is my print bed oriented incorrectly and the camera thinks it's printing back to front?

  • @oneheadlight8000
    @oneheadlight8000 ปีที่แล้ว

    I bought 3 machines, the super pinda probes are all at 1mm from the factory, but during the calibration I had to max out at -2mm to get the layers to stick. The square at the end that it prints is still not fully in tact. thoughts?

  • @Niclord7
    @Niclord7 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    To put filament in it's best to cut it slanted.

    • @Zelrick42
      @Zelrick42  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree and I did give it a bit of an angle in the video. however extruders with hobs like the Mini, aren't usually very picky as long as the filament is about 1.75mm dia. That's why I made a point of leaving the little blob on the end and nipping it off. The loading routine needs a bit of tuning and Prusa will get it done. My MK3s was quite picky when it was an early MK3 now it will eat about anything you stick down the hole...

    • @MD-NWWI
      @MD-NWWI 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have to agree with @Nicolas Belin. Prusa and many others recommend cutting the filament on an angle to allow it to find its way through the extruder.

    Thanks for the video, when I change the nozzle do I have to repeat this procedure?

    • @Zelrick42
      @Zelrick42  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, the new nozzle may not be at the same height as the old one.

  • @justina208
    @justina208 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks. Have you had the z setting change on you? I set mine (around -0.300), made a print just fine, shut down and the next day I went to print again and it rammed into the bed when it started the print. I did the calibration again and it came in at -0.900.

    • @Zelrick42
      @Zelrick42  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It changes a bit every time, but not generally that much. However, the Z height can change from filament to filament. I have one Silk PLA that I have to raise the Z by .060 on all the machines. In your case I would check the Minda Probe and make sure it’s little clamp is snug and that nothing has gotten under the print surface between it and the heat bed, sometimes things sneak under the there.

  • @carmenurbano2849
    @carmenurbano2849 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I manage to resolve the problem with the nut . I change the filament to standard PLA. The nut came out great! But when I made the bolt I applied the glue to it hold for a while than broke free. Do need to use the glue or just stick with the alcohol? I notice that you didn't use any glue on your projects.

    • @Zelrick42
      @Zelrick42  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It sounds like your first layer call is a bit off, if you’re using PLA with the smooth build sheet you shouldn’t need any glue, just a clean, oil free build sheet.
      I would work with your first layer offset, if you use the first layer calibration option in the menu you want to be able to run your finger gently over the line of filament without the filament coming loose. If it’s flat looking the nozzle is too close, if it comes loose easily it’s too far.

  • @chingo1602
    @chingo1602 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I reset my probe to exactly where you put yours, with a zip tie. And I'm using the same smooth sheet but I keep getting around -1.6 for mesh bed level. Seems a little too high, should I try mounting my minda probe higher than recommend to get closer to around -.5?

    • @Zelrick42
      @Zelrick42  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The +/- number isn’t as important as people claim, my MK3 is running at -2.3 or so with one of the sheets and the Mini currently runs at -.8xx with one sheet and -1.1xx with another. The important part is that the preprint level routine works and your first layer is right and even.

    How hard do you have to push to load the filament through the tubing? My filament sensor is very difficult to push through.

    • @Zelrick42
      @Zelrick42  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pushing that filament through can be a pain, to make it easier, first ensure that the PTFE tube on both ends is full pushed into the filament sensor. Then cut the end of the filament at an angle. It can still be a pain but that will help.

    What's the proper calibration settings for using wood filament on the mini Prusa?

    • @Zelrick42
      @Zelrick42  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Never use wood filament so I don’t have a clue, sorry. If the opportunity arises, I’ll pick some up and see what happens.

  • @daemon3spade
    @daemon3spade 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    so this Z-value differs fron printer to printer.. but what would be the ideal values for prusa mini+?..

    • @Zelrick42
      @Zelrick42  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is no idea value, each printer will be different, there are too many small factors in assembly to have a fixed number. For example you may have the nozzle threaded in 1/4 turn more than mine or my nozzle choice may be a bit longer/shorter. When were talking fractions of a mm that makes big differences in the number on the screen. The only Target is a first layer that sticks without being flattened.

  • @carmenurbano2849
    @carmenurbano2849 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think, I found out what the problem is that the filament might be in very poor quality. It's old and it's never been stored properly. I've compare it to my better quality filament there is deafferents. Thanks for your responses.

    Did you Always use the -.590?

    • @Zelrick42
      @Zelrick42  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, the Z offset is different for everyone, it depends on your printer. Do not use my number, you'll need to find yours using the first later calibration option in the calibration menu. Mine is currently at -1.xxx because I changed print surfaces.

    • @robymeseriasu
      @robymeseriasu 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ahh okay, for mine i am at -0.750...but not sure if it's still the right one

    • @Zelrick42
      @Zelrick42  4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't recommend using acetone because it is a very strong solvent and it can slowly eat away at any coating that isn't acetone resistant which is most things and even though it doesn't show signs of wear at first it will significantly lessen the life of a print plate. just don't do it.

      That is a weird one, I have some ideas, but I suggest that you take a video and contact Prusa tech support. That’s one of the nice things you get with a Prusa, take advantage of it, they are usually pretty responsive.
