It is pretty interesting how some guys burn bright in the beginning then struggle to stay at that level throughout their career then others that just keep getting better and better after 35. I used to regret not playing sports but then I thought I was a really late bloomer and it probably wouldn’t have mattered if I played or not
Not having an athletic career in your youth can be an advantage to some degree. Many lifelong competitive athletes have so many accumulated injuries by the time they’re 40 that it hampers them in middle age. But the best time to start training is always today
Interesting alright, a break while still doing lighter training seems to work for some athletes and not others. Justin Gatlin missed years of sprinting after being banned and was at his best at 35 or so setting his PB, when sprinters usually peak at 25. Thor would be at his best right now if it wasn't for that pec tear imo after his career break for the boxing, but then again if they never took those breaks would they have peaked earlier? Would you have peaked earlier if you started training at 18?
what matters is injuries and PED usage. especially in strength sports. there are plenty of other sports where they dont use PEDs where people keep progressing and then maintain into their 40s and then slowly start losing that explosiveness. skateboarding comes to mind. basketball. baseball. people that go all out and blast PEDs like crazy at a young age are definitely candles that are burning from both ends

Rauno has already lifted all this though except the 500kg+, Rauno has always done the full competition including deadlift, this time he is only doing deadlift. Only Rauno and Makarov can challenge Hicks in this line up. I only give Hicks the advantage over Rauno because Hicks has been healthy, focused and dedicated and Rauno has been ill and distracted. Rauno is still a top 3 deadlifter in the World (when in shape).
I saw Thor lift 455 kg for two reps, and I immediately thought: the same speed off the floor, or even Graham might be a bit stronger initially, but Thor's lockout is incredible. His lockout strength is so impressive, even with 501 kg. I believe Graham could have trouble locking out 505 kg, and it would be up to the referee to give the down signal. Hicksy definitely has the power and speed off the floor, but that lockout...
I think the max squat can be very exciting. I think that what happened at the Arnold was an execution failure. They should do no suits, no wraps (atheltes were literally sitting there for 3 minutes wrapping before getting under the bar), and in a squat stand instead of a rack, like in the IPF, so let people see better.
Although I would love for Hicks to break the record I don't see it happening. To pull 505 kg you have to be pulling 450 kg at least 5 times, 480 kg 2 solid reps. Gotta see it to believe it.
If Graham truly believes he had that for 4 (and I believe him) then 505kg is all but guaranteed. A few weeks to shake that fatigue off at %80 and below, and he'll do it.

Thors deadlift record was done live on ESPN2 in an official record breaker event when competition was not allowed with calibrated and weighed plates with the same ref used at every major comp. Anyone that doesn't recognize that as the record is ignorant or an asshole. The record is not controversial. That said, i dont think graham gets it. I dont think his lockouts look convincing enough for 505 and I wish he would train his reps from a true stopped position. I HOPE he gets it though. An ever rising bar is always interesting. Good luck to him.
Hopefully Graham will get it and it will be interesting to see will Rogue include max deadlift in Scotland competition, because if Thor breaks his own record or takes it from Graham, than there will be no more "controversy" .
I like hicks but compared to past videos of eddie, and thor who have broken 500kg I see him coming close. I think he can pull around 485/490 but 505 is massive.
I think if Mitchell Hooper dedicated himself to break the record he could do it. He's such an intelligent man he seems to have the will and smarts to do anything.
Graham will get close but I don't think he will do 505kg, don't think anyone on earth can do it, even Thor. It's like running a sub 9.55sec 100m or 230kg snatch, needs a generational talent and everything to align. As crazy as it sounds I do think Graham could pull 502kg, but that extra 3kg will be too much on the day imo. Not sure why they've gone 505kg, 502kg is still a world record and that extra 3kg at that level is a lot
Giants live have to go 505 as they don't count Thors 501 as a record. They can't do 501 as everyone (rightly so) would say its a record so going to a rounded number like 505 is only thing they can do.

The difficulty of the rep and how big the person is, is irrelevant and Idk why so many people bring it up. The weight u lift is all that matters and Hafthor lifted more weight thats all u need to say.
Thor can deadlift more than anyone in the world right now. He can pull 505kg easily with a suit like these men are going to attempt. Imo Thor can pull 505kg raw. Anybody see him deadlift 1,006lbs raw at the Arnold on the Elephant Bar? Yeah, it was as fast as most normal, average ppls 135lb pull... seriously... nobody can beat Thor in the deadlift. His 501kg was as legitimate as it comes. Graham Hicks will NOT DO IT!!
Well it's not exactly likely that anyone could pull that weight, but my money is on Hixxy. He's been doing insane things with unreasonably low effort for months now.
Thor has mentioned it twice in his last few videos that he would like if Rogue would have the max deadlift at the Rogue Invitational, so why are you saying that he wouldn't go for the deadlift record.
@LalasBrothers Of course Thor wants a max DL. He knows he will win the event. I bet he wants a max deadlift at every show. That doesn't mean he will go for the record. Max DL event and world record DL attempt are two different things. Rogue record breakers and Arnold prize money bonus for breaking records is never as much as the prize for winning the whole show. Why would he take the risk, potentially not get the lift, then wreck himself for the rest of the show? Rogue has the biggest prize money. He will want to win the whole contest. He is a smart strongman. He will want to win the show instead of wrecking himself on a WR DL attempt.
Thor has said multiple times, including a couple of days ago, that he will break his world record at the Rogue Invitational there is a max deadlift. He said he wants to break it AND win the show. Remember, he attempted 501kg raw on the elephant bar at the Arnold in 2019 & went on to win the show.

Yeah I bet he wishes now he did, after the boxing break and the pec tear escapade. Gonna be difficult for him to get back to 2020 levels of strength without getting niggles.
If anyone’s going to do it in Vegas it’s going to be hicks and I believe he can do it. Only person I think beats him is Thor and he’s not there. Rauno doesn’t look anywhere near hicks at the moment and Ivan is never getting it. He’s tried too many times at this point
Yep.
I think he has it in him, but Graham has a history of looking amazing in training and just not getting the job done day of. I think Thor will the one who gets it higher
Well last year Graham did great in deadlift competition and i believe he got even hamstring tear before it.
Straight up… I hope Graham gets 505kg for 2.
You never know, maybe he will 😁
Yeah, like Kazmaier did back at 81 worlds strongest man... just not with 505
I really love Graham but I still don't think he will deadlift the 505 kg this year hope he prove me wrong at this moment only Thor can do that
Hopefully you are wrong about Graham, i guess we will wait and see 😊
Hicksi gotten really strong! but 450kg it far far from 505... at them weights even 1kg more is alot! i have a hard time seeing hicksi even pull 475... but i hope he proves me wrong.... Thor is the one who will lift 505kg....
Make it a people’s record and get fans to pitch on the prize money. The pot increases until the re it’s is broken.
I like hicks but compared to past videos of eddie, and thor who have broken 500kg I see him coming close. I think he can pull around 485/490 but 505 is massive.
Yes 505kg is insane weight to deadlift, but i hope Graham has that in him 🤞
I think if Mitchell Hooper dedicated himself to break the record he could do it. He's such an intelligent man he seems to have the will and smarts to do anything.
I guess you just never know with Mitch 😅
Hicks does tend to be amazing in the gym but not bring his full power to comps. I hope this time this doesn't happen and he smashes it!
Issue with Graham is he always has massive bad luck in personal life or injuries he needs this to get that confidence back
First
Indeed.
Awesome 👊😎
Tree times.
Yes, tree.
@@LalasBrothers Love the accent btw.
Thor willl break the record, in competition too to shut up the haters.
Yeah the way Eddie did it looked more like a circus strongman would’ve done it
Wdym by that
@@joemama226a brute strength press vs a clean and jerk 🤷🏼♂️
@@-Erebus i guess, still axle technique is different from a regular clean and jerk
I wish Makarov got a better coach and nutritionist. His training is way too focused on heavy singles and he looks too lean to hit a world record. Being lean is great for social media, but it won't help you lift 505.
Spot on 🙌
Thor's lift is 100% legitimate.
It was bad form on both you're behlaves to call it illegitimate. You should know better. Go rewatch the video to re educate yourselves. You have been out of strongman too long, you've lost touch with it.
What?
Hoping for Graham never been a big Thor fan
We hope that Graham will get the record too 🤞
It really doesn't look like he has 4 reps, he also thinks he can do 520 next year if he wants to.
520kg would be insane 😂
A press is a press. A clean and jerk is not a press...
Nevertheless Mitch owns the record now.
@LalasBrothers Ilya Ilyin 226kg clean and jerk.
@@LalasBrothers Yes, indeed. I can't wait until strongman has 100m races and uphill cycling contests. Love your channel Lalas. Unbiased and you guys say what you feel. cheers from US.
im sad that asku karu got injured , he did 480 on a friggin stiff bar with no suit. i beleive he was the guy.
It is a shame that he got injured.
He injured his hamstring, Thor has never been injured by deadlift or in his back. Except that he had pain in his lats when he lifted 501kg. Thor is the man because he doesn't break.
@@jebudylajtwejt8051 you probably dont know but Eddie got injured and doesnt do heavy deadlifts anymore. at such weights, everyone does. if your technique is lacking by a margin or you do 1 thing wrong. it could end your career .
@@jebudylajtwejt8051 but still tho. you have no idea how insane what he did is.
@@isekaitruckkun I know it's an unusual weight to do reps on. I just doubt he has 505kg in him with current strength.
Touch and go is not a rep. Hicks will never ever break 485 no matter how long he trains.
Will see....
Do you ever get tired of going around posting the same brain dead nonsense on all of the strength channels?
How was his 450kg a touch and go?
hes just another ego lifter😂😂😂😂
I’ll be the first one to stand up and clap for Thor if he beats Eddie’s record, the “record” he has currently is something I’ll never see as an actual world record.
Any reason for that?
His 501kg is as legit as it gets
@@johnsterizerit’s just something lame people and fake fans say

@@J.c410Tom holds the WR for stone to Max btw that was yearrrrs ago when he was skinny and had a six pack 😅 he apparently can do 5 for reps with 286kg and apparently has done 300 already
Thors lift was weighed and reffed it was more legit then eddies. We never seen eddies plates weighed and he pretty much died being so fat and overweight. I think thors was pulled better and he didnt basically die like the whale eddie
The difficulty of the rep and how big the person is, is irrelevant and Idk why so many people bring it up. The weight u lift is all that matters and Hafthor lifted more weight thats all u need to say.
@@kavishU0902 because the blimp
Almost died pulling 500 lol
All hicks lifts are wearing a deadlift suit so I can see him struggling to do it raw at smoe
He isnt doing SMOE
Hopefully he will get it, Graham's deadlift looks on point for 505kg.
Hicks will get injured before he pulls 505 hes always getting hurt
Hopefully you are wrong
@@LalasBrothers i hope so too but everytime i was hyped up about anything hicks was about to do he got injured prior so ive lost all faith in him
Thor won't be going for the record at Rogue. Same as SMOE, Thor will want to win the whole competition. Why wreck yourself for the rest of the comp?
