In my opinion, Galaxy 1 was better than 2. It just felt like it had way more soul. However, it's extremely subjective and I understand why you prefer Galaxy 2.

And I'm going to be that one stick in the mud who doesn't like either Galaxy game. I greatly prefer the style of gameplay that Super Mario 64 and especially Super Mario Sunshine (my favourite Super Mario game) had. I honestly wish they'd go back to the roots and make either a new platformer in the style of the original two or make a sequel to Super Mario Sunshine.
However, if I had to choose between the galaxies, I'd go with Galaxy 2. Mostly because of the more inventive powerups, creative levels, Yoshi and the green stars were pretty fun as well. Super Mario Galaxy 1, in my opinion, is completely unenjoyable and honestly, is probably one of my least favourite Mario games of all time.
Matteo bigagli You don't even need to navigate it because you access all the levels by stepping on one platform.
+The Helmaroc King - I agree, I like Galaxy 1 a bit more for the same reason. I personally enjoyed listening to Rosalina's story too, it made everything feel like it had more purpose, and I'd cry for Rosalina every time I heard the story :'(
Cosmic Cove was the point where I realised that Galaxy 2 was 100% going to be in my top tier of games. The first star was so simple yet so beautiful with its brief swimming section, and then turning everything into ice. The music just mesmerising too. The second star knocked it out of the park. Love the bit you mentioned, but also those 2D swimming sections traversing water floating in space were fantastic too. In another game Cosmic Cove would stand out even more but in SMG2 it's a great level among great levels, but probably just the most memorable for me.

I remember getting Mario Galaxy 2 for my 12th birthday I think. I've never played the first one, so I love the 2nd one with all my heart. best game ever, I wish they would make a galaxy 3.
They probably won't because we need the Wii controls with the cursor and everything. We probably won't get one unless they re-release the wii

I think the Chompworks Galaxy is pretty underrated, personally, especially that Shadow Comet. I'm sure concepts like that have been done before, but the way it works in SMG2 is really cool.
yah i'm even starting a fan game in the summer where i include the successors to cosmic clones:shadow clones [and even a couple of my post-game stars are shadow clone stars too, also i'm really interested in the cosmic clone stars]

Ahh, I recently downloaded SMG2 again, just to relive 2011 and that feeling of beating the perfect run! 210 stars, almost there :)
Also, I think the rulers in the Rolling Masterpiece galaxy are there because sometimes if you're sketching and you're making a straight line, some artists use a ruler to guide them and make their lines straight.

Cosmic Cove is fantastic. Also, you forgot to mention how phenomenal the soundtack is for that galaxy. So soothing and calm.
I literally spent most of my time in cosmic cove just to figure skate xD
What about Chompworks Galaxy? Or Puzzle-Plank Galaxy?
+The Hero of Hyrule I know. Those are two of my favorites, along with Slimy Spring Galaxy.
I like those two galaxies as well. Puzzle Plank because I like puzzle solving and Chompworks because you see where all chain chomps are made and you even see a golden one.

Motion control levels? Obnoxious controls override cool ideas. I would not have had those two on this list.
I think NB's purpose and SOUL purpose for the list is the uniqueness and originality of the levels, not if he likes them himself. As you can see in his "Worst Brawl Stages" list, a lot of his entries there are the same in his "Unique Brawl Stages" list.
This list is based on the concept of how the course looks and feels, not so much for how it's fun it is to play through.

+Nathaniel Bandy Super Mario Galaxy 1 is so much better than Galaxy 2. Can you do the top ten most unique Mario Powerups. they don't have to be good, just used in a Unique way like The Ice Flower in Super Mario Galaxy 1 or the Rock Mushroom and Cloud Flower in Super Mario Galaxy 2, or the Metal Cap/invisiblity/Wing Cap, or the Red Star, or the Boo and Bee Mushroom. Like I said, it doesn't have to be good, just has to be a unique power up. Also do a Top Ten hardest Mario Bosses and Mario Games. Including Mario and Luigi Series and Paper Mario series.
+PIEGUYRULZ Well, maybe the Fluzzard controls can be a little difficult, but the ball actually controls perfectly from my experience, so I don't get how it's obnoxious. And the two levels aren't really similar at all just because they both use motion controls, unless you mean him putting Rolling Gizmo on the Galaxy 1 list?

It is just a Damp piece of crap.I prefer Boss Blitz Galaxy for #1.Because in everything you basically do is fight off a bunch of Bosses from the first Super Mario Galaxy.Because yeah,every once in a while when you played Super Mario Galaxy 1 and play this galaxy in the 2nd,it is an exact combination of bosses from around the game.

My favorite galaxy I'd probally the flash back galaxy. The idea is so cool especially the way it turns pitch black then back to normal in the pattern of the song it's really cool

I think that starshine beach is a very chill level and just has a nice concept, you can go pretty much anywhere, but you have to go to specific places to get to stars. I don’t know if it’s unique enough for this list though since I haven’t played SMG1
I love how all three galaxies with the Spin Drill are on this list.
Cosmic Cove was my favorite galaxy since Super Mario Galaxy 2 first came out! man I love skating on the ice.

I think Starshine Beach is the best! The galaxy itself is gorgeous in every destination and personally, I love running on water with Yoshi.

The most unique galaxies in Munich option have to be Sweet Mystery and Boulder Bowl. Sweet Mystery is just a beautifully excecuted galaxy. It’s pallate of colors and the little glow fruit make the galaxy. Boulder bowl is just very entertaining. I love the new rockshroom if you may haha. Rolldillo was really fun to battle

I love nathaniel bandy, he is one of my favorite youtuber and my favorite top 10-er but he works on such lo quality stuff ( i mean not the $200 video editor pewdiepie uses) and usualy i love the hi quality people more.
Well, I haven't played SMG 2 Yet, but I rented it once and by far my favorite is number one. I stayed skating on the ice for like 20 mins.
Hm. He makes a good point about 2D games being designed like Mario games. It would satisfy a lot of Galaxy fans, it would allow Nintendo to be more innovative with their 2D Mario series, and it means we can keep progressing with new ideas in the 3D series without being held back by expectations set by older games.
That level with the wood people is probably my favorite one, to be honest. It made me realize that this sequel was not more of the same and in fact, adding a lot new to the table. Gotta love Balloon Yoshi :D
