I am rewatching this after an unexpected hysterectomy (my hemoglobin was nose diving down to 5.2 and they were concerned about it going any lower) 8 days ago. Your 4 month update popped up and reminded me to check back and rewatch these. I knew the hysterectomy was an eventual surgery but didn't expect it so soon. I wish I would have had more time to prepare myself and my family. It is kind of scary to hear your mom is going straight to the hospital. My husband has been AMAZING as a husband, dad, and emotional support throughout this all! I am so blessed! I wish I had some of that Smooth Move tea! First time was so scary because of the big, bold print warning! But we got 'er movin' and am getting more normal day by day. I may send my hubby to the store to get some just in case. Still sore and tired but I am trying to give myself grace. Drinking lots of water, taking pain meds when I need to, and taking breaks/naps whenever I feel the need is so important! As a mom of 5, I am relying on my older kiddos to help more and more. My sweet 10 year old daughter said, "Do you normally do all this stuff? No wonder you are always tired!" Yes, yes I do! The itchies are setting in and driving me batty! I had my sutures glued so no steristrips to take off, but I am wishing I could do something to relieve the itchy sensation! Thank you for being so candid and honest! It is really helping me put my recovery in perspective! Smiles, Abby Smith

I'm on day 4 of recovery from my laproscopic hysterectomy. It's easy to overdo it. I did too much sitting up on Thursday trying to work remotely, on Friday I slept so much and had no energy. No complications thankfully, but I don't see my doctor again for 16 days. I purchased a large heating pad prior to surgery and haven't needed it. Thought about getting a belly binder, but discovered a pillow works just as well. My dr recommended not spending money on things just for surgery. They would provide what I needed. They sent me home with disposable panties, pads, and protector pads for my bed. Didn't need any of it. Was happy we had started miralax 5 days prior to surgery date. I had my first bowel movement on Thursday afternoon. Drinking warm water with lemon and honey for the sore throat I got from being intubated

I had my hysterectomy on 11/29/2023. Recovery has been good for the most part. I did slightly overdo it on post-op day 6 and paid for it that night and the next day. I am being more careful and just relaxing and asking my kids for help. Your videos have been great watching! One of my steristrips came off yesterday 😮 but all is good. I have 4 incisions. The worst part of my surgery for my doctor was all the scar tissue from 4 C-sections, but aside from that, she said it was tough but a success!! Yay!!
Taking a stool softner has been a blessing. Crazy not having to push because your body just shoves it out gently. haha
Thank you for your videos. I wish I had seen them before surgery, I was a mental wreck. I am glad I am seeing them now.
    Take care ❤😊

Thank you so much for watching these videos and I am so happy they are helpful even after the fact! I am actually getting ready to share my 2 year post op video this month (hopefully in the next week or two)!

I had a total hysterectomy two years ago. I was so tired for several weeks. I’m glad you are not overdoing it. I kind of did and I paid for it later- Which just slowed my recovery some. Just be patient with yourself, it’s a small amount of time in the long run 🏃‍♀️ so be careful. Sending you hugs 🤗 and we’ll wishes ! 💕🤗🙏🏻

The pain was bearable I haven’t taken too much of the narcotics I took it once since I came home. I do take my ibuprofen 800mg whenever I need to. You are going to be fine. I am EXACTLY the same way n my "time line" thinking - "This time last week/month/year", etc. And I also think that as you get older, it's harder for your body to throw off/recover from the long-reaching after effects of anesthesia. I found that over the years, even though I had more "minor"/less physically traumatic procedures, I still took longer an donger to recover my energy/not be tired for longer and longer periods of time after any surgeries. And I totally understand on the bowel habits - pretty daggone regular here too, and I can feel the difference if I don't every day. I feel ya, sistuh! I also had a "don't need this stuff celebration after my uterine ablation. And I felt SOOOOO good when I "didn't need all that room in my suitcase" the first time i went on vacation after that, and DIDN'T need to take an entire huge bag of pads with me, because of heavy bleeding!! Wonder if part of the pain you were feeling could also have been localized muscle spasms, from them having "moved stuff around" and using the DaVinci (or whatever robotic system you had), especially since Shawn could visibly see movement. Have experienced that myself several times. Had them in my upper back so badly after my spine surgery in my neck that it felt like somebody was holding a cigarette lighter against my skin - very localized, very painful - and didn't start until about a week or so after my surgery - guess my body was "relaxing" is the way I think about it. And yeah - "healing itchies" are no joke!!! And I wore my granny panties pulled WAY up over my belly button - as near to my chain as I could get them - ROTFL - for a LONG time after my tubal ligation - felt like a 90 year old man, but did NOT want that feeling anywhere NEAR my incisions!!! LOL
I continue to heartily applaud you for being so open, blunt, and honest - always - but particularly in this journey - in an effort to perhaps help someone else. You're my hero, and a total boss!! Continue dong well, and continued admiration also for your wonderful, supportive hubby!!
P.S. Having a NOT love fest with FedEx right now - at least it's NOT with Scentsy, but that doesn't really make me feel any better. They SO suck! :( :(

    Hi Lisa,
I have to catch up on your series. I was just catching this episode per say and I wanted to share with you that I had a total hysterectomy in 2017 and at that time I believe I was right around your same age
It sounds like your recovery is going quite normal and well and everything you were saying sounds very familiar, going by my memory.
My biggest issue is I never liked to sit still are lying in bed so I would also make myself sore because I would get up and move around too much so be careful and like you said listen to your body.
Biggest issue I have had is I have been on HRT‘s for the past four years since the hysterectomy due to the fact that it throws you into immediate menopause, which I’m sure you know or did your doctor talk to you about it?
I take an estrogen pill and I use and estrogen patch and if I don’t use them let’s just say I can get in beast mode. Do you know if you will be going on any HRT‘s?
Is it caused me to gain a bit of weight, estrogen will do that to you. I’m not sure how much longer I need to be on these but it’s been a struggle with them.
I think it’s with me a good 2 to 3 months for a full recovery after the surgery. I wish you a speedy recovery remember to take it easy on yourself!

    • @LisaRowberry
      @LisaRowberry  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Hi Belinda, I didn’t have a radical hysterectomy so I won’t need hormone replacement therapy. My body is still receiving hormones from my ovaries that were left thank goodness. So I should go through menopause naturally and I hope to still have a few more years until that happens.
