Don't bet on that. I had to wait over 2 months and a dealer had to deliver mine from 500 miles away because of the specific exterior/interior color combo I wanted. I negotiated as best I could and still paid $56k, key in hand. The hybrid (mine) is the one demanding the premium since they're in much lower volume and supply, but they don't have the transmission issues that the ICE version has.
I really think the hybrid is the one to get. If I pay attention even a little, I'm getting 40mpg around town. That's ridiculous for the size motor and a 3 row giant SUV.
Hyundai really knocked it out of the park with this vehicle though. It checks every single box that I was looking for. Down to silly things like a real volume knob, actual climate control knobs, the rear view mirror camera, and wireless Apple CarPlay. Oh, and the ventilated seats are awesome. Also, it fits in my garage and with the awesome 360 camera system, parking it in there safely isn't anxiety inducing.
It's an absolute joy to drive.

3k miles so far on the Hybrid Calligraphy model FWD - averaging over 30mpg and on stop and go treks in town can often get 40mpg+. Wife says it's the best vehicle she's ever owned and for basically $50k OTD, I can't think of a better value. The interior feels ultra refined and luxurious. Engine can be a little buzzy but the acoustic glass helps. Smooth ride. Love that it has a traditional 6-speed automatic and not a CVT for the hybrid. Car has exceeded all expectations so far.

The fact that it looks boxy and/or similar to a Land Rover makes me love it more. This is not a detracting feature. I don't know why people can't accept that, yes, it looks like a LR or any other boxy SUV from automotive history. Personally, I think it's much better looking than any modern LR or RR. Too many SUVs nowadays look like sleek sedans. I'm talking to you weirdly designed Range Rover where they slanted the front bumper and slanted the roof to "try" to make it look sleek (and utterly failed). That design has been a tragedy for years now. The Santa Fe is unique enough and I love it. I loved Land Rovers growing up and vintage ones are still cool as hell. The design of the HSF is an homage to some of my favorite SUVs. Great job Hyundai.

The terracotta orange XRT has tempted me. The things I don't like are the odd fob, touch A/C controls, no HomeLink, external spare tire, reliability/recall concerns, and the MPG/range hit I'd take compared to my Crosstrek. I also don't really need 7 seats or a new car so that's sort of a factor as well.

Not saying this car has that (the XRT trim does to a small extent) but ground clearance and AWD, are good for all sorts of practical things, safety, etc. Even if you only use the capability once (or never) in the ownership of the car, you could argue that it's still worth it in case it comes up or just to have fun on a rare occasion. It's not a dream, it's about it being occasionally worth having or having it just in case. All the better for those who regularly use the off-road capabilities to the fullest extent.

His favorite song is "More than a feeling is just dust in the wind".

Got one as a rental. It was great. It stood out in a good way. People couldn’t believe it was a Hyundai. Drove nice. The brown interior was great looking.

The base is quite quick. A loaded AWD Calligraphy model did 0-60 in 6.3 seconds according to caranddrivers test results. It also trapped 96mph which is kinda insane. Those numbers aren't far off from the last gen X5 3.0T.
Also no clue why Doug says this car felt slower and less muscular than the Palisade V6 when the 30-50 and 50-70 are quicker than the V6 palisade

From everything I've seen and read, it's the 8 speed DCT transmission in the non-hybrid that has the issues. The Hybrid uses the same 6 speed in the Tucson and I'm not ot aware of any issues with that one.

@jibjibmonkeyman99 NOT true. The transmission is not failing on its own. There's a software glitch that controls the parking pawl which in turn messes up the transmission. The software is telling the pawl to work when it shouldn't and vice versa. I bought one and love it, but when tested fir the problem, it was discovered the transmission failed because the software was effed up. As if today, my car was at the dealership for five weeks, when I received word just today that is ready for pickup tomorrow. Was I happy my car with only 800 miles was effed up, no, if course not. But Hyundai Motor Corporation came through. I love everything about the car, especially the 2.5L turbo. 😉

@@maryannsmith1148 I never said the transmission was failing on its own, I said they were failing. Also 5 weeks is a very long time for something that should’ve never even happened if the manufacturer was more thorough. Glad you enjoy your Hyundai but people need to be aware of this problem.

Gives me some Ford Flex vibes. We actually just had a Santa Fe as our rental in New York and it was great sans the turbo lag and some weird throttle response on hills. Super roomy though and rode great
