    The 60% vs 57% battery level after the update is probably just down to the quicker charge : your phone simply used up 3 extra percentage points of battery to stay on during the extra 30 mins it took before the update.

    The idea of the MagSafe battery pack is not to recharge your iPhone from 0-100% that’s not what it’s designed for. It’s designed to keep your iPhone at 90% until the battery pack is dead and then your phone is at 90% and good to go for the rest of the day. It’s not a recharging pack it’s a battery extension.

    • @zgoaty9235
      @zgoaty9235 2 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      This is like how Apple’s charging cases worked for iPhones pre-Magsafe: They were designed as extensions to the stock battery to extend battery life beyond the phone’s rated usage time. I had one for my 6S when I had it, and again my XR when I had it. In both cases I was able to get more than two days worth of moderate to heavy usage on average with no heavy hit to the capacity of the battery over time (the packs did still introduce a minor amount of iPhone battery degradation, my 6S being at about 84% battery health and my XR being at about 83% after two-three year of usage out of each).

    • @reggiesanders1284
      @reggiesanders1284 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Exactly. You’re out having a great time, taking photos and such, and you don’t have to (stop) and charge, you just keep going until your (portable) battery pack is depleted - charge both later. It’s a stop gap move, like having an energy bar in your pocket. Also, I’m not gonna try an off-brand charger on my iPhone, only later to learn that it harmed it in some way.

    • @hieuniverse
      @hieuniverse ปีที่แล้ว +6

      This. Plus, it is by design for it to stop charging when it is exposed to high temperatures to prolong battery health. Software and hardware integration.

    This battery pack is basically an extender not really a
    power bank. This is supposed to stay on your phone
    from the beginning of the day when you take it off the
    charger. It basically sticks around 89-91 percent of
    charge all day until the pack runs out. Once your
    phone hits the 88% mark it starts to charge up again
    until it hits 91%. Then it stops charging; uses that
    time to cool off and stuff as you know wireless
    charger heats up. Since it's a 5w charge it won't heat
    up massively, same now 7.5w. The reason you get less charge on the
    max is because the max has a larger battery thus
    taking more juice from the battery to charge up.
    Which is the reason the max only gets 40% juice from
    the pack. While the normal 13 and 13 pro get about 70
    percent of charge.

    Apple’s battery pack is designed to act just like a phone battery, but external. So you can plug in either the battery pack or your phone, they’ll all be fully charged eventually. That’s their selling point. Whereas others they are just power bank, meaning you have to charge your phone and power bank separately.

    I have one of these for my iPhone 13 mini, mostly for when I travel on business twice a month. It’s perfect for getting me through a full day when I’m flying and I find that I don’t even pull out my iPad unless I’m on a longer flight. I just listen to podcast or watch a downloaded film on my mighty mini (which I ❤️). It’s a really great solution. If I was going camping, I would likely want to rely on a larger battery pack for a day or two.
    I took my phone with me on a 12 hour escapade to Munich and it was a great benefit to have this battery. I was text and using the phone on the plane sporadically and then used the phone for all day when I got to the office in Munich. I’m very happy with this purchase.

    I disagree. The MagSafe battery pack is THE perfect accessory to go along with the mini iPhone lineup (12 and 13 mini). Not only does the pack fit perfectly with the phone's dimensions, the power saving tech that apple has baked in will protect your internal phone battery life. Plus now it will charge your iPhone mini faster with this update. So far it's been a really great combo, and when I have the battery pack attached to my iPhone 13 mini at the beginning of the day, it easily extends my battery life for longer than a full day, even lasting well into the next morning. And it's also my default MagSafe charger (I totally skipped on buying the MagSafe charging puck and got this instead). It's a great accessory that I recommend any iPhone mini phone owner to get.

      Just out of curiosity, if you need to always have the magsafe battery pack to get you through the whole day, what was the purpose of getting the mini? The regular size has considerable longer battery life. Or is it not something you need everyday? I've heard the battery life on the mini is really bad.

    • @NStamp
      @NStamp 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@danielxmiller I use 13 mini and my battery can stay whole day, there is a huge battery improvement between 12 and 13 mini. And if you watch battery test in youtube, you can see that there is only 1 hour screen on time between 13 and 13 mini

    • @JayCatterson
      @JayCatterson 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@danielxmiller I don’t use it every day, because the life of the 13 mini gets me through the day no problem with regular use. I usually get to about 30% battery life left at the end of the day with regular daily use. Even apple rates it at 17 hours which is the same as the regular 12 (I had the 12 and I get better battery life on the 13 mini with my usage). It’s only on those days I know I’ll be out and about using it heavily for long periods of time where just slapping the battery pack on the back and going about my day where it really extends battery life. And I usually have the battery pack in my Fanny pack just in case, but I only use it once every so often. Also it’s about the form factor; the size of the mini is a joy to use, and it doesn’t give up any of the power or the cameras as the bigger 13. It’s more pocketable and it’s such a great phone to use! I hope this answers your question.

I watch all of my baseball teams games which is 162 each season so since I work at night, I’m typically at work during those times. I needed a stand at the very least and when I came across that anker pack, it gave me both. A charger and a stand. It’s also, slim enough and and simple to take anywhere. Just because the form factors look the same doesn’t mean the purpose of them are the same. Apple intended this to be a battery extender. Not a portable wall outlet.. think of it like one of their battery case. It just extends the life of your internal batter when you need it. Everyone measures the the ability of this product based on how much of you battery capacity it can replenish and how fast it can do it. Instead it should be how many more ours of use did you get out of your phone by using the battery pack than if you didn’t. So if you had 20% battery left when leaving work but we’re heading out with friends if you slap it on would u be able to use your phone a lot more and a lot longer than that 20% would have allowed. This is why it’s so compact so it can stay attached to your phone. Remember the apple battery case used to. Just stick out at the bottom right where the bag safe pack attaches to your phone?

    Please run this test on the 13 Pro Max bc that's what I have. I'm considering getting the MagSafe Battery Pack for my 13 Pro Max or even one of the third-party alternative options like the ones that Anker, Mophie, Belkin, or other companies make

    I'd use the battery pack as an extender rather than a power bank. I'd slap it on when the phone is full on a busy day, so it won't die before the day ends, and go out with only the phone during normal days, my phone can easily survive the day on normal use, ending with around 40% to 80% while averaging around 18% if it was used heavily and I have no access to a charger and a wall outlet. Given the fact that the battery pack adds 60% to the phone, that would mean that my phone could easily end the day with 60% or even 70% on a typical game day for me.

    just bought the anker maggo battery. I like oem parts better but for around €100 the 1400mah isn’t worth it. I only bought the anker battery pack bc my samsung 10.000mah wireless powerbank its usb port is worn out. Anker’s solution costed only €60 and gives me 3x more capacity than Apple’s pack and coming from a 10.000mah powerbank I’m spoiled with easy 4x chariging of my IPhone 13 mini (2x note9 and XS Max)

    When I upgrade my phone in the fall I'll probably pick one up. I finally picked up the apple battery case for my Xs last fall off ebay for 35 bucks and my phone has practically lived in it since January. Cheaper than replacing the battery in the phone that I know I'll be replacing this year.

    well, im using a el cheapo 10.000mA powerbank with USB-C, 2x USB-A and 1x Micro USB Input (but can also be charged via USB-C) and also 10 or 15W wireless charging
    Its just as versatile or more, it can even charge my 16" MacBook Pro when there is barely load with 20W (as "much" sense it makes to charge a 100Wh battery with an effectively 25Wh Powerbank)
    What i really miss with this powerbank since i got a new MacBook is probably 20, if not 30-50 Ah with at least 65W USB-C power output, could extend the 14-20 hours battery life of the Notebook up to easily 30-40 hours+

    • @bengoey
      @bengoey 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wireless charging is convenient but is inefficient ( wasting energy compared to cable charging ) and worse generates heat which if too hot is not good for battery longevity. Both the Apple Magsafe and the Anker generates heat, more so the Anker. I have both chargers and my experience is with the 13 Mini. Larger phone like the Pro Max probably won't be affected as much as the smaller phone. I therefore use the Magsafe or Anker charger when out all day as a back up.

    Interesting thoughts!
    I NEVER once thought about that, and it’s given me a new perspective on the product.
    Admittedly I have a similar viewpoint on the switch that *No one literally mentioned pre launch or after* as far as I’ve seen.
    1. Power cut : Oh no! *picks up the switch from the dock* guess that gaming session is over…
    2. Oh wow, usb C! Great, I didn’t know pre launch, so I did research into it* well… one time we had a storm that hit, and knocked power out where I work, it tripped us onto the backup generators…
    At work however, Power was 100% off. It was actually off all day and all night, we basically had to bin anything that would go off from not being chilled/frozen…
    I HAD a battery pack, Lost it : then found it a week later… (yay!) my phone was at 30-40%. My father was freaking out because his phone was 20% and he needed it in the morning… (I also worked overnights, and it was my day off*)
    Switch : USB C to USB C. Charged his galaxy s9 from 20 to 50%.
    Got my near enough dead iPhone X from that 20-30% to 80-90% before dying entirely. (Original switch model*) which that phone charge lasted me almost till when I was heading off to bed, and plugged in on the off chance it MIGHT come back on.
    5 minutes later, it totally didn’t come back online…
    Long story short. Switch : you can use as a battery pack. Not efficient in anyway, but life and death situation? Absolutely : no one cares about efficiency when you NEED not WANT it charged.
    The newer V2 models, absolutely would be the ver to get.

    “The update could take up to a WEEK over MagSafe”
    Me, not having to wait because I use this thing every day anyways:
    For real tho, this thing makes my iPhone 13 pro max a true weekend warrior, with more than enough battery to take whatever I can throw at it for 2 days straight. And I’m an adhd-ridden, impulsive zoomer. Super impressive. Also, the software integration (as always, with apple) is just outta this world. The animation when putting it on, being able to see its percentage on your screen, just a god tier charger tbh.

    I would have gotten this product if it could charge my 13 Pro Max to full, and if it could have charged at 15W. I miss the Smart Battery case, since it was always integrated in the case, it seamlessly switched between the iPhone battery and the phone, and that it won't ever slide off when I put it in my pocket since it is integrated in the case.

    • @yammy9061
      @yammy9061 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The MagSafe battery charges at 15w when plugged in and switches between the battery back and iPhone battery when plugged into either of the two. Once done charging the iPhone your iPhone charges the mag safe battery pack while still staying full percentage if it’s plugged in

    • @yammy9061

    I wonder if the Mac needs to be unlocked lol I live with someone who has a Mac but they aren't home, I wonder if it's possible to just turn the Mac on and plug it in. I have two MagSafe battery packs, got them for $75 at Best Buy for a while. I use them to keep my 13 Pro at 90% almost constantly. If Anker's battery pack would stop charging at 90%, I'd get it in a heartbeat. I've used my phone about 6 hours every day or so since I got it on launch day it only just recently dropped to 99% battery health. Either it hasn't calibrated and it's a lot worse than it says, or keeping it charged at 90% is working well.

    I think 🤔 with the new update and the new price it’s a better deal. Thinking of picking one up to go with my 12Pro max, since I am traveling again with work I need that little bit of extra batter until I get to a proper outlet. I don’t like charging things on the plane or on the airport it’s just a no go for me I am those people that leave things behind.

      From the Apple website: "At your desk and need a charge? Just plug a Lightning cable into the MagSafe Battery Pack for up to 15W of wireless charging. Short on time? With a higher than 20W power adapter, you can charge both the MagSafe Battery Pack and your iPhone even faster."
      It will probably eventually damage the battery pack, but if you use the pack once a week, I think it will be good.

    • @yammy9061
      @yammy9061 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you plug in your phone while the battery pack is on it will charge your phone faster and will automatically charge the MagSafe charger when your phone is done charging and vice versa. Every battery loses full battery capacity over time no matter what but no it won’t necessarily damage it
