Yes, it's already a recession by definition, the US economy shrank 1.4% in Q1'22. Not "growth slowed to 1.4%" but "growth was negative at 1.4%". That's a recession.

However, I am unfamiliar with the intensity of the course material as 'digital media' covers a wide range from 3D animation to videography to graphic design. The base M1 MBA does have its limitations especially with just 8GB of RAM. If projects require 3D rendering for example, run times could be slower than expected. But considering it's a learning module and not business time critical, the Adobe Apps should run well enough and can get the job done. I use Photoshop and Lightroom Classic, and no issue for me. But perhaps it is best to see what the school is recommending. During my college days, the school did list the recommended specs a student would need to fulfil course requirements.
I totally feel that. Saving money is so important. I am still using an iPhone XR. Food, rents are getting so expensive now. I am in Turkey for vocation for several months, pricing is crazily high now. Landlord triples rents next month. 3 times, this is crazy!
A recession may be our best-scenario. More likely is stagflation much like the late 1970s. That's a stagnant economy (few jobs) and inflation (rising prices). My suggestions: 1. Yah gotta eat. Buy food that keeps well now. $50 spent on groceries now could mean $100 not spent a year from now. 2. Visit thrift stores. I just picked up a G-Shock at one for $2. It's solar, so it doesn't need batteries. It's Atomic, so it sets the time down to split second each night. I'd rather have it than a free Apple Watch. 3. Buy the tech you need not the tech you want.
I just paid $1612 to fill my semi. I do that twice weekly for 300 gallons. I also have a 50 gallon tank on my refer trailer. My 2012 MacBook Air is still working! Ish..

@@WaffleFlakes That's a very good point. Fortunately, they do have the model I'd get on Apple's refurbished site for a reasonable price, and it would come with a new battery. It's more the software update issue I'm concerned with. I think it still may be worth it though. :)

I Don't want to say this but 13,14 years ago in Turkey, 1 Dollar was equal to 1 Turkish Lira, now, 15 Turkish Lira equals to 1 U.S dollar, inflation is more impactful than what governments are stating. So In Turkey, I should pay atleast 10k Turkish Lira to buy an Ipad Air (5th gen). (Minimum wage is 4.2k Turkish Lira).
As a repair technician I only recommend buying refurbish from a good vender that’s has warranty, cause I do repair on 100’s of iPhone bought “refurbish” a month and that just me seen this. Same story every week “I just bought this bought iPhone and is ready having issues” further investigation… iPhone came from previews owner and has low quality third party parts inside.
This is so frustrating because, I actually want to change my job, quit the job that I don’t even like. And than all the news come out and yelling at me this is not a time. I am really hating this.
Buy refurbished where and when you can from Apple directly. EXACT same warranty as new, starts day 1 from the day you bought it, and you save a few hundred bucks in some cases. Hell I bought a refurbished MacBook back in 2010, sold it in 2015 and the person I sold it too is STILL using as a basic email/surfing machine!

There are BETTER ways to save money than to be trapped in an Apple anti-consumer monopolistic ecosystem. + push for standard messaging between Android, iPhone and other platforms. + Use open source alternatives that is platform agnostic + Support policies for open minimum standards and interoperability - i.e. ports, apps, graphics renderers etc + Support and push for multiple app stores and "side loading", which to general computer users is called "downloading"

You need to do consider that the battery might be significantly degraded since it’s an 2018 device. 2021 iPad Air with M1 might be a better deal.
