The amount of energy that your phone uses is incredibly small when you compare it to it's manufacturing. The iphone battery holds around 5Wh of energy, so charging your phone for a year is ~1.8kWh. It's estimaded that manufacturing a phone requires 288kWh of energy.
That's why improving manufacturing and recycling is WAY more important then device or charging efficiency.
Ofc it would be best to use phones longer and buy less new stuff. But Apple doesnt like that...

Other cases from like an unknown seller in amazon would just include a stick-on metal ring or something like that. For me however, I didn't buy the Moment case but went with spigen's s-pen case n stuck a metal ring on it (u can buy n use magnet rings instead if u want, but they usually aren't strong imo n that metal ring would just work with any magnetic accessory as some of them use different magnets than the ones magsafe uses).

@@HugoMak Normally USB power banks use a single cell or parallel cells which gives you the typical 3,7V with it's corresponding mAh. Apple seems to use 2 cells in series, so around 7,4v. 1:58 1.46Ah × 7.62V = 11.1252VAh ≈ 11.13Wh
Makes perfect sense, what's the problem??
Amp-hours are only comparable when the voltage is the same (which they usually are; Li-Ion 2S is typically around 7.4V), the value you should look at is watt-hours which is a unit of energy.
    (1W × 1s = 1J)
The Anker one is only 1S (3.7V), so it doesn't have 3.4x (5A/1.46A) the storage but actually just 1.6x (18.5Wh/11.13Wh).

The screw mount might work best in industrial settings where the user could snap it to a wall near where they work. You don't have it to fish it out of a pocket, it's already high up enough for Face ID to work fine. You can use it mostly hands free, and all the swipes to navigate are immediately accessible.
I guess that could work anywhere anyone needs quick and easy access to their phone in a vertical orientation. I'd be interested to hear how people do use them.

Considering how unrepairable apple batteries are even compared to the relatively annoying to repair smartphone market, they probably don't want the battery to wear out faster than the expected lifetime as it will with often fast charging. Other companies have countered this with more split cell designs that allow higher amperage charging with less wear, but that is more recent development.

    • @silasweaver8268

Here is a simple explanation for the battery rating - Power = voltage × current. So let's divide the power 11.13W by the 7.62V, we get 1.460A (1460 milli ampere). The hour is added to the units to indicate capacity, by that I mean, if the battery delivers a constant 1460mA then it would last one hour, hence the 1460mAh rating. Same thing applies to the power rating as well.

Regarding the battery capacity, it makes sense: 11.13Wh divided by 7.6V results in 1.46Ah...at 7.6V! This is because it evidently uses two Li-Ion cells in series, while phones almost always have half that nominal voltage since they use a single cell, at circa 3.8V.
This means that the battery pack's battery holds twice as much energy as a phone (or in general single-cell) with the same "Ah" capacity.
The capacity in Wh are more comparable since they do not suppose a standard cell voltage.

I wish they used different names like 'MagGrip' for the whole lot, 'MagAttach' for just grips, 'MagCharge' for 5w and 'MagBoost' or 'MagBoostCharge' for fast charge. Hell even 'MagCharge5' and 'MagCharge15'

    • @ShinyPeeko

Even MagCharge 1.0 for 5w and increasing it up one for every 5w. ie 15W MagCharge 3.0 or 1.3

The new battery pack is exactly the way Moto Mods worked, without the data transfer. It's just a bit better though, since there's no pogo pins to align. I'm interested to see where MagSafe (or MagSafe Attach or whatever) goes. Will it come to the iPad? I've heard rumor that MagSafe could come back to the Mac in some way. I don't know, but I do know that magnets are fun and I like them.

Imma say something cursed but I love magsafe on my z fold 4, took me months but I found a mag safe sticker that's low profile clean can stick to silicone and matte plastics plus has super strong magnets so it holds freakishly well. It's so strong that I accidentally bought a non mag safe generic magnetic charger but just using about 30% of the ring works and holds it.

I use an android phone and I have never used an electric induction type of charging. Cost-wise their always more expensive and in some cases slower than wall chargers. But if there was a huge ecosystem for all the phones that would make any kind of phone usable with any MagSafe or other chargers I might want to enter this ecosustem.

The thing to keep in mind is that mAh is *not* a measure of energy storage. Powerbanks, smartphones and such market that number because it looks bigger on paper than an average Whr number for these types of products. But Whr is the actual spec we should be looking at if we want to understnad the energy capacity. 11.13Whr equates to being about as large as an iPhone 12 Pro battery.
Another note to keep in mind is, unlike 'powerbanks', the MagSafe battery pack's first priority isn't really to charge up your phone, it's to act like an extension to your phone's internal battery. So, this will be a great option for the 12 mini users especially, who want to extend their battery lives. Unlike other powerbanks, this battery pack from Apple won't trigger/turn on iCloud backup or all sorts of other things that get activated when you charge your iPhone in a 'traditional' plug in way either, and therefore make the internal battery heat up less.
So, I don't really get the hate around this product, except say for the price of it.

11:29 All iPhone X/XS models fit perfectly fine in the case of some iPhone 11 model (X and XS fit in 11 Pro case, XR fits in 11 case, and XS Max fits in 11 Pro Max case) so there would be no point of making cases for the XS line and the only other iPhones with wireless charging are the 8/8+ so they would just need to make ones for those two phones.

i got the magsafe puck at launch with my 12 pro max and it’s like, whatever to be honest, it’s nice to plug and unplug with one hand and one swift motion, and the charging rate is pretty good but the pro max is also a battery behemoth so i almost never need to get a quick charge either way. i am, tho, a huge fan of the magsafe leather wallet, it’s not the best fit on the phone naked and i love to have the phone naked, but it’s great with the matching leather case and has truly replaced all my other wallets, especially if you never use cash or live in a crappy country without apple pay and/or digital id cards, etc.
i could live without plugging in a lightning cable ever again, but the big problem is not the iphone, but those handful of accessories that still, for whatever reason, don’t have wireless charging or usb-c, like airpods max still needing a cable, or apple watch needing the proprietary cable puck thingy as well, like, there’s no easy one solution for everything that is not a behemoth taking space on your desk.

  • @dhavalkhairnar1011

I am still not able to finalize between wired chargers and third-party wireless chargers because wireless chargers heat up the apple devices and may cause the damage to the components. Second issue is that I need to manage couple of wires and need to by another charger (with two type C port or two different chargers). Third issue is that wireless chargers are always plugged in. So, even if I don’t want to charge my devices every time I place on these chargers, I don’t have any other choice other than to unplug the cable out of the chargers and place the devices afterwards. I really like if there would be a front facing switch or tap feature which turn on/off the individual charger like one for iPhone and another for Apple Watch just like color changing lights by just tapping on the same button.
