Hello, I have this exact problem that many of you are describing. You ALL need to get ‘Hydrodissection Of Dorsal Scapula Nerve.’ It is a new simple procedure where they shoot fluid through the nerve in office with an ultrasound. The fluid is lidocaine and ropivicaine, the same solution that’s basically in a trigger point injection. But this goes through the nerve, not into the muscle. Along with dextrose (sugar water) and sarapin (pitcher plant). It’s a simple outpatient procedure, you just have to find a place that does it. It basically expands that nerve area, from your shoulder blade all the way to your neck so the nerve is not trapped anymore. You will feel instantaneous relief as they shoot it into the nerve and you can watch it expand in the ultrasound, it feels so relieving. It was exactly the problem. I always felt nauseous, sick, headache, tingling down my arm, couldn’t move my head side to side, felt pain in my chest near my heart, everything. I was rolling around on the floor with a massage ball, pushing on these incredibly tight muscles over and over in all directions for hours and hours all day long. The next day I would feel sick in my stomach all day. THIS is the answer - hydrodissection of dorsal scapula nerve. I’m 39 and my quality of life has diminished so much over the past 3 years from this, from working on my computer and phone and leaning forward and putting my hand out in front of me. It completely trapped this nerve through the whole area he describes. Nothing worked, myofacial release, trigger point massages, therabody, theracane, everything was temporary relief. I would instantly be sad and depressed after the next day spending so much time to “loosen” these muscles. This get the root of the problem and takes 15 minutes. Very easy, simple, not expensive. Went to the osteopathic institute of spine and back here in Florida, just a small outpatient physical therapy place and they had an innovative doctor that recommended it and is teaching others. Very easy, covered by insurance, and becoming more common. Highly highly recommend for this exact problem.
Best diagnose yet I’ve seen of that particular problem. Symptoms are tingling in the index n long finger ...with radiating pain in the arms sometimes elbow radiating down. Thank God I’m ok when I lie flat on my back with a circular neck brace inflatable or cushion type then there’s no pressure on that nerve then u can alleviate the pain and have a sleep.it’s when u try and sleep on the sore side that aggravates the nerve
While I'm not trying to self diagnose, I am just looking for different stretches to do to try to relieve what I *believe* may be this entrapment and boy did your second stretch help. Within the second set of this stretch where you cross your arm over and look down I felt something kind of release in between my right scapula/spine and immediately the pain/discomfort went down about 70%. Thank you for this video because this pain has been going on for a couple months and some days it is just unbearable. I will definitely be using these stretches to help whatever this might be.
Thanks Dr Shaw I have been struggling with burning and scapular winging. Finally stumbled upon your video years later and it looks like it’s the dorsal scapular nerve that’s been stuck by tight scalene muscles. You are literally a life saver God Bless!!
Thank you for providing this video, I currently have an ulnar nerve problem with the numbness and tingling in my little finger etc, but knew that something else wasn't right, since the scapula nerve that you identified is also a problem, and with this knowledge, you've empowered me for when I see a physio today, I'll know what I'm talking about. Thank you very much.
Forty years in Orthopaedic surgery, first assisting on 20K cases, and this video showed me some things I didn't know! I have radiculopathy from C5 NR, affecting the DSN. The stretching and exercises have helped a lot-- even though extension of the neck sharply worsens the pain along DSN distribution. Maybe I'll get some extended relief. Thanks.
@Dee Dauphinee did you have c5 narrowing affecting your DSN? I’ve got c4-c5 narrowing and ever since it started I’ve also had the scapular pain. You could pm me through Facebook messenger and we can talk.Look for Melissa Powers.I do have an appointment next month with a spine dr.
@@athomewithmelissa Hi Melissa, I did. In 2013 my chief complaint was C6-7 right side radiculopathy (triceps/axilla pain), and ended up getting an anterior fusion of those vertebrae. My DSN pain started 3 weeks ago on the left. So, I looked at my old 2013 mri and it showed "marked foramenal narrowing." Today I scheduled a new mri to compare. You might want to get an mri to compliment your physical neurovascular examination. I hope yours is just entrapment syndrome...it's quite treatable with ultrasound guided ablation. I know acupuncture can help also. Best of luck! Dee
Forgot your question! Ha! Yes C5 is part of the brachial plexus- as is the DSN. That's the differential dx...DSN entrapment vs C5 nerve root stenosis or impingement.
Well, the doctor told me I needed a shoulder replacement that’s why I couldn’t move my arm. Every day I tried to stretch and press on trigger points but after doing your TH-cam. I’m completely mobile on my arm that was so painful and couldn’t move .It was definitely a nerve entrapment which I suspected because it went all the way down my arm thank you for this incredible relief. Where are you located? I would actually go to a chiropractor like you.
same here - down the tricep too - I'm also finding stuff about flossing the ulnar, radius and median nerve might be involved in there somewhere. Good luck
I NEED YOU!! IM DYING THIS PAIN HAD BEEN ONGOING FOR OVER A YEAR NOW!! MY SURGEON HAD THEM GIVE ME A C5 NERVE FACET INUECTUON. THIS WORKED A LITTLE FOR NECK. BUT NOT FOR THIS. IT SHOWS A IMPINGED NERVE IN MY MRI OF THORACIC. I THINK ITS THIS. CUZ ALL THESE SYMPTOMS AND THESE EXERCISES ARE HELPING BUT THEN IT COMES BACK.
Thank you for this, it’s exactly what I feel It’s so bad, I feel so much pain, burning and stubbing to the point I have a bad headache from the pain, I thought I was having a heart attack because I fee the pain goes in to my left Chest🙏🏼
@@lornakist I’ve got c4-c5 narrowing.I first started with the neck pain now it’s there where the scapular nerve is.I do have an appointment next month with a spine dr.I’m just ready to get on a treatment plan.
hi any update on the issue? does the pain still goes to your left chest? even though it originates from right side back scapula area? asking cause I had similar issue
This sounds exactly like what I’ve been suffering with for a month. How many treatments does it usually take to free up? I’m a hairdresser so my arms are always out and above.
if the area next to my upper spine is a bit numb and sometimes itchy, in addition pain in that area (VERY strong massage does nothing!), and I have pain in my inner-elbow associated with holding a glass for too long at a cocktail party (or dumbbell hammer curls), might I have Dorsal Scapular Nerve Entrapment? I've been sleeping on therapeutic neck pillows for over 20 years.
I get the itchiness too! It is a different feeling than skin itchiness and it’s always in the same spot with nothing obvious on the skin. I never thought it could be related to the nerve pain. I’ve been having the same nerve pain in the same spot on my left side since I was a kid. Most days I’m fine but after exercise and a couple shifts working as a nurse and that area BURNS and it hurts to lift that shoulder/arm. It is difficult to get through a shift sometimes. Rest and stretching help slightly but professional massage or really hard massage gun are the only things that help, but it comes back.
Would this cause pain in the throat sometimes if the nerve is very aggravated? I have this exact pain pattern, but I also feel a “lump like” pain in my throat. (I’ve had mris and X-rays and ct scans. All negative) doctors can’t tell me anything at this point. I also have pain into my left shoulder down my left arm (tricep area).
@Frisby Dev that sounds like LPR.Or GERD,look them both up.With LPR there isn’t much acid reflux but with both you get the lump in the throat feeling. What has helped me was sleeping on an I cline pillow at night.I also have a lot of mucus in my throat snd an allergy med like Claritin helps too.Hope this helps 🙏🏻
I have this feeling on chronic level now. One chiropractor said it was a slipped rib head put of place. He would adjust me and it would be gone for awhile. Now it's back as I walk out. Feels like it always starts behind the shoulder blade maybe some tension in that side of the neck but always causes pain to shoot down the arm its on and forearm. Lights those muscles on fire, pulling down into what feels like the pinky finger. Numbness and tingling pinky side of hand. Could this be causing a chain reaction like that down my arm? Happens to me on both sides. But mostly the right shoulder blade and pains down the arm. Like tense muscles

Thank you @Shaw Chiropractic & Sports Injury Center from experience, do your patients complain about having headaches in relation to this nerve issue?
Can this be from a sudden torn of the nerve, I felt a snap and have had a similar pain for years or is this just something that happens gradually?
