    I am crying right now 🥺 I have been to Neurologist, physically therapy, brain scans, etc.
    I suggested that it might be Thoracic outlet syndrome and they told me no.
    The constant tingling, numbness, burning and sometimes weakness was so bad that I started getting depressed 😔
    I just followed your routine and I feel 100th percent better.
    I am a hair stylist and photographer, so it's a double whammy.
    Thank you, thank you, thank you, you are the best 😭😭😭❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏

    I’m a therapist with 12 yrs exp everything he is saying is accurate. One thing I like to do that the patient hates is isolating the muscle with my fingers and gliding them down the muscles as the patient stretches in the opposite direction. It’s called active release technique and it works every time. Patient hates you for a few minutes but then loves you forever 24 hrs later. I always make them ice afterwards. They always request it if it flares up again.

    I'm a member of a TMJD Facebook group that emphasizes the importance of addressing trigger points. The group's guide suggests using our hands to massage these muscles initially. As the trigger points become less intense, one can gradually use a back knob tool to work on the upper back. This approach has been instrumental in alleviating my jaw problems.

    I have been suffering with TOS for almost 3 years now I had no idea I even had it until I went in for wrist pain. I have gone through occupational therapy which helps but doesn’t last. I’m desperate and tired of being in so much pain. I was told my pregnancy most likely caused it. I feel like my ribs are being stabbed constantly. Hurts to sleep on my back and sides it’s miserable. Hopefully these exercises will help because doctors don’t want to spend the time to actually treat me. Instead I get told “ there’s nothing clinically wrong”.

Took years, had to get proper orthodontics and an orthotic Gelb appliance (basically a discrete retainer-like guard for my back teeth. Largely resolved TOS. First, holy sh#t! When I tell you I feel 100% better after the massages, I am speaking nothing but the truth! After months of watching TH-cam vids, going to a chiropractor and having acupuncture, this video alone has created such a sense of relief, instantly! This is the first video that popped up in my recommendations that specifically mentioned Thoratic Outlet Syndrome. I wasn’t sure if I should watch but I am glad I did!
    I work from home on a computer everyday and my neck issue has been giving me the blues since last year. Neither of my chiropractors have mentioned these massages first before stretching. I kinda feel that’s a no-brainer and probably my bad for not asking, but I just can’t get over the relief I’m feeling! Like someone else mentioned in the comments, I was beginning to get very depressed. I was experiencing brain fog, occasional double vision, tingling in my fingers and arms, and almost questioning if I was able to adequately take on my workload to any degree of success. I can go on but wow! This is such a relief! My only question is how often should the massages and stretched be done a day? It felt so good I wouldn’t mind doing it multiple times a day! Thank you again!

I had an HNT exam with a scope down my throat just to make sure it wasn't cancer. I never even heard of this (TOS) and I've been researching Hodgkins Lymphoma syndromes due to my lack of confidence in my PC. I did this while watching and I felt instant relief and all the misalignment I've been feeling disappeared almost instantly. How common is this? Why has none of the physiotherapists and doctors I have been to never ever said anything about it to me? This is the pain I have been living with for at least 10 years and without realising it, I had been doing some of the massaging techniques you describes myself. It was the only stuff that helped relieve some of the discomfort and pain. I have ever had a full body scan done, including bone scan, because the doctors could not figure out what was causing my pain. So upset now about the lost time and resources :/

    Best video addressing TOS that I have found out there. I have been dealing with TOS pain for 17 months, but only discovered it's TOS a month ago after a consult with my surgeon for an ulnar nerve decompression. I've had a swollen lump at my collarbone this entire time. Reading more, I discovered a correlation between TOS and median/ulnar nerve compression (they call it a double crush syndrome). My EMG showed a severe lesion at my elbow, motor loss, sensory loss, muscle wasting, and mild carpal tunnel. I truly believe it all stems from the TOS compression. Vascular TOS was negative thank goodness. These self-massaging exercises are spot on. The stretches just hurt right now. I'll be trying these for sure!!! Thank you for creating this video.

    The way you show the muscle diagrams over the part of the body is really helpful in visualising how to pinpoint it. Gold. I have been in more or less constant discomfort with neck and shoulders for 20 years. Have watched 100's of physical therapy videos and videos about other forms of treatment, had tried massage, and osteopathy on many occasions, and nothing I tried really worked. After 10 minutes I have a new sensation in my neck and shoulders and as a consequence, hope for the future. Can't thank you enough. By the way had never heard of TOS, but had come across trigger points and myofacial adhesions, but never had anyone explained the points about manipulating the facia, followed by the correct approach to stretching, then strengthening the balancing muscles, which I must say brings together these 3 approaches into a logical sequence. I've seen proof of the first two within minutes. I've wasted so much time fighting this pain by pulling at it and getting nowhere, but at least I know the way forward

    I have chronic Lyme, Fibromyalgia, Hashimotos and a host of other autoimmune diseases. There were several knots I found in the muscles going up the side of my neck and working that area was difficult because it's like stone. Under the clavicle there was a clicking with every movement. Personally the diseases are one thing, but I believe trauma was a bigger evil for me. When I was 18 I had a chiropractor tell me I carried all my stress in my muscles. I am now 48. Thank you so much. Fantastic video, very few others address the scalenes, subclavius, and pec minor. I had what was suspected to be TOS a couple of years ago, which presented as constant pain on the edge of my scap, and pain/tingling down my arm into my fingers. My massage therapist originally started on the infraspinatus, but then suggested the scalenes which were, in his words, "like piano wires" 🙂. I stay on top of it now with self myofascial release and do my own cupping.

      P.S. I watched your posture video, paying special attention to the sleep position section. I’m wondering if you might address optimizing sleep positions for those dealing with TOS. Pre-TOS, I personally preferred back sleeping with a minimal pillow (cushioning concentrated at the neck, very little head & zero shoulder support). Since TOS, I’ve been experimenting, as the supine position seems to trigger pain radiating across my scapulae & into my shoulders (side sleeping amplifies this).
      Currently, my supine, flat position from toes to pelvis remains, but from there I’m now bolstered upwards at 45 degrees through the head. I’m basically sleeping on a triangle base, with a firm half-barrel pillow running vertically along my spine up to my neck, crowned with a softer pillow for head support, and two additional pillows under each arm. My shoulder blades avoid surface contact (& therefore don’t feel “pinched”) while everything around them is supported. I can’t help but think there’s an easier way. Would love to hear any thoughts you (or other viewers) might have on the matter!

    • @TrainandMassage
      @TrainandMassage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much for your comments, Im glad youre able to get some sleep.
      As for your question about sleeping. if the main problem is the scapulae then maybe try focusing more on the pec minor. The pec minor helps control the scapulae so maybe its the natural stretch in this muscle that triggers the pinch in the nerves which gives you pain in the back.
      make sure to test before trying this video and then test it after to see if theres a difference. You can test it by laying flat as if youre trying to sleep. th-cam.com/video/qI45mACakqo/w-d-xo.html

    • @TrainandMassage
      @TrainandMassage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      tight muscles creating pain isnt normal. Try holding that tension and paying attention the pain. See if it gets worse or better. It is very possible to get worse before it gets better. it could take 30s up to 2 minutes. and It might take multiple attempts to get it to release.
      A tight chest can pull the clavicle down, which in turn pulls the neck forward. So it might be a reason for it. It might also be the subclavius or the suboccipital creating more tension. My TOS Challenge addresses a lot of these issues and teach you how to properly release them.

    5 year TOS sufferer and looking forward to starting your routines as soon as I'm done typing this! I have a couple of questions. (1) Which posture brace would you recommend? I'm not a spring chicken and need as much help as I can correcting my lifetime of poor posture. 2) I get great relief when I get migraines from massaging and pressing down on my upper trapezius. Can you recommend some self massage techniques?

      I really do hope it helps! There's also a program in the description for a TOS challenge on sale right now. If this is helpful then you might want to consider it.
      1. Not a fan of posture braces so I can't recommended one. Sorry
      2. Try this video for the traps. What you're describing is a common trigger point issue. (this doesn't mean it cant be something else though) th-cam.com/video/ilFAgUeXHeo/w-d-xo.html

      Hey guys, is it normal to get intense tingling down the arm while you’re massaging these areas. (For me it’s the scalenes and subclavian) I just don’t know if I’m overdoing it or it’s to be expected? It forces me to take a break because of how intense it is.

    The scalenes are not overactive in Thoracic Outlet Syndrome they are UNDER worked and weak. What is overactive are the upper traps, and the pec minor which doesn't allow the scapula to sit correctly. This results in the pinching of the thoracic outlet between the first rib. The other muscles that need strengthened are the lower traps and the serratus anterior. You can do your own research on this as their are multiple scientific papers published using EMGs.
    Edit: I’ve done further research and found that the scalenes are possibly indeed overactive.

    • @TrainandMassage
      @TrainandMassage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      As a massage therapist, I have helped many people who had tos by only releasing the scalenes. That same nerve that gets pinched in tos can also get pinched there.

    • @lvanpelt1685
      @lvanpelt1685 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You are partially correct..Overactive scalenes are a real thing. Mine are enlarged, verified by ultrasound and pressing on my brachial plexus on both sides of my neck. Coughing, sneezing, having to speak loudly only exacerbates them. Using these muscles to breathe as opposed to the diaphragm can result in this, as it did for me (anxiety & stress also cause us to breathe shallow using these muscles ). With this, the scalenes do tighten and the anterior and middle scalenes pull the first rib up toward the clavicle while the poor posture causes the clavicle to drop sandwiching the nerves, vessels & arteries from the brachial bundle that run between them. But, yes, strengthening rhomboids, lower traps and serratus anterior definitely needed for me as well as keeping the rib cage and scapula mobile and gliding. My 2 EMGs showed nothing, but trapped ulnar nerve at the elbows. TOS does not have a one size fits all treatment approach, but I am definitely using the massage techniques shown here before stretching now. Appreciate this video!

    • @TOSUnbound
      @TOSUnbound 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@lvanpelt1685 This is strange as a lot of my research has contradicted this. However, the enlargement of a muscle could surely cause the same issues a tight weakened muscle so it makes sense logically. Glad to hear about other causes of TOS to open my mind a bit.

    • @lvanpelt1685
      @lvanpelt1685 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@TOSUnbound I’ve learned TOS is not all that cut & dry. It’s nice to be able to help each other. I was also checked to see if I had an extra rib. Not the case.. My physical therapist does manual therapy and when she gets my hips and pelvis straight & loosened up, it helps relieve tension in my rib cage, which in turn helps my upper back and neck relax. If one area is missed I don’t get the same benefits. It can be pretty individualized as far as treatments go. Just have to try different things and see what sticks. I use some of the techniques on the Muscle mind worx channel also.

    I definitely have this problem. Lots of pain in these areas, and trigger point about halfway up my neck on the right side. I think this has also resulted in TMJ and extreme tightness between my eye and ear on the same side. What are some techniques to relieve facial muscle tightness/pain and how can I find and address the underlying issue?

    • @TrainandMassage
      @TrainandMassage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      One thing I notice is people don’t hold the pressure long enough to relieve pain in the head. Find a tender spot within the muscle and hold that pressure until the pain goes away.
      I’m coming out with a video in 2 weeks addressing headaches so it should be right up your alley.

    I was getting worried as the pain was bad. I didn’t want to go to a doctor, etc., as I was pretty sure I knew it was tos. Diagnosed 40 years ago after a roll over car accident where I found a chiropractor who did pressure point massage and heat which allowed me to return to my life.
    After rotator cuff surgery 20 years ago and a dislocation after slipping on ice four years ago (all happened to the right shoulder), I thought perhaps they were both coming back to haunt me at 68 years old. I then started to have the old tos pain that happened off and on through the years but not like lately, but I did yoga daily for over 30 years which probably kept tos at bay.
    Thank so much for this video. I started yesterday, and I cannot believe how the pain that was all over the shoulder and arm is almost nonexistent. Just knowing what it is has reduced the anxiety of worrying and not knowing what was going on. Thank you, thank you so much.
