I remember I had to swap 1 stabilizer bushing in my 87 Grand Nat’l and had to use my floor jack to install it cause I couldn’t compress it enough to get the bolts started. Nice having a lift too. She’s tight now.
Sometimes you have to do that..she's nice and tight
Thanks for this. I have a clunk and a squeak. Going to replace my end links first, as I think that is the culprit. Then the bushings are next in line
I've been dealing with that exact clunking noise in my 08 cobalt for little over a year now. I've replaced a little more than half the front suspension, but the noise always made an appearance shortly after. (Definitely not complaining though because that car needed a lot of love since the day I bought it) I finally got frustrated with it and started looking at every little thing I haven't replaced yet and low and behold it has been the sway bar bushing this whole time!

Right with you OP! I replaced struts, sway bar end links, brake rotors and pads on my Pontiac Vibe, but the noise all along was for the bushings!
This video was fanominal! Thank you!
Sorry you wanted so much money. That's first thing to check.
Great video. Precise instructions, perfectly clear voice, just right pace. Great video length, not too long. Thank you. I just Subscribed!

Thanks for showing how much play it had in it and the sounds. This video was super helpful! I changed out the end links today and I'll pick up some bushings tomorrow morning.

I appreciated your good explanation about replacing the two bushings on the Cadillac. I have a Cadillac 2011 DTS with worn out bushings. You have been demonstrating a very logical step by step procedure. At the end you double check your work and make sure it is completely done correctly. Excellent video of the work done with some good comments which made me smile listening to you. 😎

Make sure you drop car down to ride height before fully tightening those bolts down .
Is this the inner sway bar inner links? How much who a honest mechanic charge to do this?

Just replaced the sway bar bushings on a 2008 Honda Ridgeline, finally the clunking sound is gone, and much tighter steering. Thank you! Who could have imagined that $14 could make such a significant change to the front end.

On the 2010 cobalt LS there are two options on the bushings. There is a 18mm and 24mm depending on sway bar thickness. Took me a while to find that out

@klowny1969 does the orientation of the bushing slit matter? And did that Liquid Wrench lubricant stop squeaking noises? I’m having trouble with the new bushings. I’ve turned them both ways and most recently used B’laster silicone spray but that only made the squeaking noise worse! And I can’t find any silicone grease in stores. To hell with ordering from Amazon an item I should be able to find at local hardware and auto shops!

Easy peasy. One of the simplest jobs to do. 🤙🏻
Hey doc, I need assistance. I had the 2010 Cadillac Escalade z95. Enterprised front and back shocks to the original with that magnetic thing. It rides slightly better but on the highway when you have those joins between the concrete plates. It jumps and shakes a lot so it's not really comfortable and I tried to do the calibration ,calibration didn't work. I don't know what to do there. Suspension is new but rides like s***
You should grease the bushings with poly grease - thicker and more tacky. Also dont over torque those frame bolts or use loctite, You'll never get them off. Torque for those bolts typically arent that high. Look up the spec.
For Mazda 6 (from Shop Manual) the torque is 39-52 Nm
That hole needs lube baby!
Can you do this with the vehicle wheels on the ground meaning the weight of the suspension on it? As long as it’s level? Thanks.
Greetings for you from Iraq
Hello..thank you for watching and commenting!

I have a 2004 s500 they changed out the air suspension to I guess some stock Mercedez shocks . I’m having the same clunking noise while driving and going over bumps . Today it almost fell like something popped out of place while making a u-turn not sure what it was but definitely going to check it in the morning .
Also it seems like suspension is ok just has sever body roll . Any other recommendations? I’d really appreciate it . But your videos definitely sounds like what’s happening to my car
Severe body roll? Could it maybe be a poor anti *roll* bar??
@@Nycorexti In the MBZ, the anti roll bar is the sway bar...potato potahto........
I have a 2015 Mustang and I have the squeaking noise coming from the front driver side ; I’ve already replaced both control arms and stabilizer link and the sound still there ; I wonder if the sway bar bushing is what’s causing my problem I just don’t wanna be wasting more money lol : it starts squeaking when the car is warm enough and it creak’s when turning the steering wheel like the sound of metal rubbing each other
Thanks....easy to follow along video.

Good explanation.
Hey I have a question, so during winter my steering wheel would make a knocking noise when turning the wheel stationary/ moving left or right with short turns, but as it got warmer it went away and a new sound I heard is when I slowed down recently to park, I hear a squeaking noise like a bed spring, from my front end and as I slowed down from 10mph to 0mph, the squeak would go slower as the tire tire turned slower, any ideas? Thanks
Topmount?
I just recently replaced my old sway bar bushing with new ones without adding any grease for lubrication. After driving for about 2-3 weeks, I started to hear the clunking noises which coming from the sway bar bushing. I crawled under the truck and added some Valvoline Multi-Vehicle High-Temperature Red Grease and the clunking noises went away. Now, the clunking noises are coming back, so what am I doing wrong here? 2007 Tacoma V6 Prerunner

I did Upper and lower arms, steering ball joints, struts, swey bar links and bushings. I still hear a clunk. Next probably will do chassis/cabin bushings and check motor mounts. You've got to find it 🤷♂️

back on topic, thanks for the vid bud !
I’ve got a 2019 ram rebel that does this knock only in the winter 50 degrees and below. Started making the noise around 22,000 only in cold months took to the dealership five different times always said they could not find anything wrong. I convinced him to replace the swaybar links which did not fix the problem. Started to think it was the bushings when looking underneath they did not look too healthy truck is now out of warranty going to replace them. I hope this is it. Wasted a lot of time, taking it into the dealership. When they did the swaybar links, they should’ve did the bushings at the same time just to get me out of their hair. Mine only does it in the winter months did you guys have the same problem or was it all year around?
Good video! What if I have access to regular scissor jack, can I do one side first, then do the other?
yes you can
yes if you have a death wish.
Just remember, NEVER work under a car, supported only by a scissor jack.
when you check the sway bar for play, do you need to have the car on jack stand with the front tires in the air or the front tires need to be press on the strut? you know what I mean.
Great video. I can't really hear a knock, when I go over bumps.....but I do hear loud squeaks. Could the squeak noise also come from sway bar bushings ? I just replaced them 2 years ago, with MOOG parts. Thanks
It's possible..try spraying some silicone lube on them..don't forget to subscribe
noooo. NONONO. No lube at all. must be dry

So we replaced two end links on our car they are super stiff compared to the looser previous ones. But now there is clunking at slow speed. is this because they are probably causing more issues with the bar bushings as the links are new and the bushings old? Our car is gonna be a bish to change the bushings as the bar is above the frame and hard to access the bolts.
Great video, thanks!

Shouldn't the suspension be loaded. Before tightened down. Or does it matter. I was told it has to have weight on tires before tightening?

intermittent clinking/thunking sound
After coming home from a camping trip, my 99 4Runner had an intermittent clinking sound on the passenger side. Never could figure out the rhyme or reason until my brother jumped up and down on the front bumper while I watched underneath. It was a loose bolt on the sway bar link. Two people is better than one trying to figure it out.
Glad you were able to figure it out..don't forget to subscribe 😉
My swaybar tape with wrench is 11/4.can u tell me what size bushing I need.a 33 to big
I just changed out my upper rear control arm and ball joint thinking that the sound was coming from that. It did take out the rear end wobble however the sound is still there. I'll check some sway bar bushing. I have and links that I will be doing also. I'll let you know what I came across with
