Wow thank you so much . I have a 2016 Xr and it’s my pride and joy . This video will save me quite a bit of money over the next several years . I now feel totally confident in doing this . I live in the us and love your content.
A good how too. A small correction maybe? The 2 inch of tension is meant to be measured with the bike on the side stand with the suspension loaded. Doing it on the center stand the slack is more.
Superb video. Believe it or not I have never adjusted a chain,i always get my dealer to do it when I am passing by. I didn't realise it was that simple.
superbike1 Thanks very much! have a look through my videos, there's plenty that might help you, from removing wheels to removing fuel tanks, calliper service etc. All stuff that can be done fairly easily and all helps to save you money.
I used a breaker bar to undo the axle nut. Found i didnt need to release the chain adjusters, which preserved existing good chain adjustment and wheel alignment. My main concern was the ABS sensor in the body of the caliper on my Gen 2. The whole exercise was reasonably straightforward, if a bit fiddly at times.
Antonio Russell that's a good question! come to think of it all new bikes I've had haven't had them on, only after I've replaced the tyres over time. Maybe they've another way of balancing them when they're fresh from the factory.
Thanks! What do you think about Givi topcases on XR? I am going to buy a top case but original one is very little(30L.) for me. I am interested in Givi TRK52B, but I am worried about wind wobbling.
Never ever use your torque wrench as a breaker bar,if you do the accuracy of the torque wrench is ruined for ever.Go buy a breaker bar they are cheap enough.
also not in the interest to be nosy or teach you mechanics - when you check tension, you do so till the upper chain just starts to lift up - in your vid you are forcing it and the whole wheel is actually moving. Also the 1.77-2inch is on the side stand and static sag will add some tension - the way you have it set up in the video you will end up much closer to 1 inch than 2 inches. and sorry if you are doing it differently usually and thats just how it came off on the vid - its a good video, i stumbled on it cos i forgot what the rear torque was on the axle!
Was wondering why you would be watching this, if you know what you're doing. I can assure you it was at the correct tension. Thanks for your comments and tips though👍

Great video I’m just going out to do mine & I have the HP adjusters on mine but basically the same nice one Shaun 👍👍👍
Thank you. Easy to follow for a mediocre wrench like me
keep wrenching👍
Nice. Thanks. I noticed my XR wheels do not have any balancing weights on them... Do yours?

I'm not a fan of top cases, so I use soft luggage from Sw-motech.

Very useful vid. Never thinking of buying a bike lift?
Marcel Pijloo
would be great but I don't think I've got the room for one at present.
good video! please more like this!
Will do👍
super helpful thank you so much!
You're more than welcome!
always measure from tightest spot of chain, not the slackiest spot
