    This is the start of my Muslim series in the USA (7 videos in total). I tried my best to cover it from as many angles as possible in the Detroit/Dearborn area. One thread coursing through all of these videos is that Islam has a full range from left to right just like Christianity, Judaism, or any other religion. Sacha Baron Coen and the most conservative Hassidic Jewish person are both Jews. Keep this in mind when you think of Muslims.
    I've talked to women in niqabs in Saudi Arabia when it was acceptable, but to do this on camera is next to impossible. Annettee agreed for me to film her so we need to thank her for this, she provided a window into a world that most of us will never get exposed to. She is a Mexican American convert, and to my surprise, there are quite a few Mexican/American converts to Islam. Remember this is one perspective and does not represent all Muslims.
    Coming soon will be a video about a Muslim woman who is very liberal and dresses in western style with no headscarf. But just like Annette she prays 5 times a day and is devoted to Islam. So my goal in this series (like most of my work) is to show you that an easy label does not apply. Two people can be Muslim but approach life in completely different ways.
    Thanks for watching and I'll see you next Sunday!

    I completely get why this woman feels more freedom. As women, it is exhausting to present yourself to the world on a daily basis. Not only do I feel this woman is bada$$ but she is a symbol of strength. Her energy is so independent. It is a shame the perception is that she is oppressed. I wish I had her courage.

    • @hyawill8944
      @hyawill8944 3 ปีที่แล้ว +34

      You think she is liberal? Maybe some or even majority of women covering themselves enjoy it, but it doesn't mean that they support freedom of others to uncover own bodies. Some Muslims agree it is an obligation for women to cover their faces, some think it is only about covering their hair. Do you know that many interpret the Islamic law that it should be enforced on Muslim women to cover themselves. Some claim all women, no matter what religion they adhere to, need to cover, because otherwise they spread corruption.
      Is it shocking that many see it as immoral to uncover, shameful, and therefore enforce covering on daughters, wives if necessary?

      @Nae.- 3 ปีที่แล้ว +84

      @Roger Crankshaw You’re correct one the fact that people have the right to judge and discriminate, however it doesn’t mean that it’s right. And second, you have to check the lens in which you’re viewing things. Islam does not incite terrorist attacks. There are a group of extremists who incorrectly justify their personal and political views by twisting the religion of Islam to fit their needs. How about the fact that many who died in 9/11 were Muslim. How about the fact that most Muslims ( those who don’t belong to these extremist groups) publicly oppose terrorism and all extremists groups. That isn’t fair to take a select group of people and allow them to speak for over a billion people. According to Islam, what they are doing is immoral and are grave sins. There are always people who will twist, misconstrue and go against the actual rules of religion or laws and make it seem as if it is lawful. ( think of the coup that happened this past January with the U.S. government). Think of slavery, the KKK, or the crusades. What about the Christians who bomb planned parenthood’s, they do not speak for the majority of Christians. It is very narrow minded to think that such a small group represents the whole people. Would you consider every Italian to be in the Mafia? I know these are many examples and you may not think that they fit but it’s all the same thing. Don’t judge a whole group because of a few. Do you actually know any Muslims? I’m guessing not. True Islam is about peace. These frauds who use Islam to perpetuate hate and violence are not true Muslims. I feel sorry that you feel the way that you do. Do some research, get yourself out there ( unless you’re content in your frame of thinking then that’s your choice). May God bless you.

    What an interesting perspective, there's so much judgement in society I can see why this lady feels freedom. Yet again I have learnt so much by watching these videos. Personally for me as a partially deaf person who wears a hearing aid, I feel I would struggle to communicate, as I rely on lip reading for the most part. I once sat on a plane with a lady who wore a niqab, you could feel the tension on that flight, I decided to introduce myself to the lady who was very well educated and graciously offered some of her food to me, which I took and it was delicious! That was one of the most relaxing flights I have ever taken and thankfully she sat on my good side so I could hear her perfectly!

      cool video , I'm not religious , but good for her , I think she has every right to dress how she wants , I gave the video a like . So the thing about the 4 wives , usually its only for people who got like millions of dollars in the bank account , most guys don't get 4 wives , its more people who who own like multiple houses worldwide and have huge amounts of cash in the bank and who can't stay with one wife because they are traveling and away from family for work , I don't really have a opinion on it , I guess most guys like the idea and since I'm a guy I'm ok with it but most girls don't like the idea which is fine , its depends on how rich the guy is .
      So getting 4 wives is different from adultery because adultery could get you sent to jail in most Muslim countries , it could also get you beat up by family or by the police depending how how many partners you had , if you had multiple partners like a hundred girlfriends or something , the police might show up and beat you up or something , sometimes people get sent to jail , if your HIV/AIDS positive you might get executed

It's natural defences to be apprehensive about people with different religion and customs then you, we even tell our children “stranger danger” for good reasons. That’s is her secondary explanations as to why she wears it. Why would someone go through and wear it despite all hardship just because of her trauma. While we do not cover like niqab, the idea of being covered, separating from the common world, and maintaining one’s inner self and integrity is so much a vital part of our (orthodox) tradition, too. And I’d love to be your friend, Annettee! It’s only through having an open mind and heart - with each of us secure in our individual attachment to our traditions, respecting one another - that we can move the world towards one of Peace and fulfillment.

Also, polygamy is an option in rare cases and women shouldn’t be agreeing with it so easily. The conditions of polygamy are so strict that not even .01% of humans can fulfill it. For instance, in polygamy a man is required to treat all wives equally if he can’t do it he shouldn’t be going for the second wife. Tell me how many humans can treat two individuals equally?

    Assalamualaikum👋 as a niqabi I just wanted to say thanks to the creator of this video for giving or helping others to see from our prospective and all so... thank you
    Also, I can relate to this women too. For me, its freedom having control over what I want the world to see and what I dont want them to see. Personally speaking I have felt much more comfortable in public than before covering, I also found that I'm not sexualized like I was before (people treat me more respectfully too) and I feel like it has helped me sin less in public specifically like I watch myself and what I do more, I genuinely feel safer too. I dont know how to explain it fully but it helped me heal in a way, when I first started wearing the niqab, the fact the I was SA-ed caught up to me when I couldn't run from it anymore and the niqab has helped me and helped me feel like my body is mine again and like I had control over it again. Yeah, so this was some of my reasons but mainly just cause I wanted to do this and this also kinda forces people to judge me for my personality and for my general self instead of appearance. (The niqab is not really common especially for my age and where I live so definitely out of free will too)
    Y'all enjoy your day and stay safe🍪

So the thing about the 4 wives , usually its only for people who got like millions of dollars in the bank account , most guys don't get 4 wives , its more people who who own like multiple houses worldwide and have huge amounts of cash in the bank and who can't stay with one wife because they are traveling and away from family for work , I don't really have a opinion on it , I guess most guys like the idea and since I'm a guy I'm ok with it but most girls don't like the idea which is fine , its depends on how rich the guy is .
      So getting 4 wives is different from adulty because adulty could get you sent to jail in most Muslim countries , it could also get you beat up by family or by the police depending how how many partners you had , if you had multiple partners like a hundred girlfriends or something , the police might show up and beat you up or something , sometimes people get sent to jail , if your HIV/AIDS positive you might get executed

      I'm a muslim girl living in Istanbul, Turkey and I went to many churches in Istanbul, and seen that many Muslims actually go to churches just to explore and take their views about other beliefs. One of my friends went to a church in Antalya, Turkey and she said that she has talked with a Finnish priest and asked about many things and his experiences as a Christian priest in Turkey. She said that he was treated very welcoming because people are respectful and they approach very nicely. Religious differences is not a huge deal.

      @celebrul_anonim_ - I’m sad to read this negativity. I’m a Christian who doesn’t have all the answers, but I know in my heart that God loves us ALL. Not just Christians, not just Muslims, not just Jewish, etc.
      He created different paths to reach Him. We need to be constrained in these various faiths because we cannot function as decent human beings without structure and rules. God knows this about us. He sees our hearts always.
      1. He asks of us to love Him with all of our hearts.
      2. To love our neighbors and care for them as we would like to be cared for.
      These are the two most important commands. From these two things everything else falls into place. God never mentioned “to love Christian or Jewish or Muslim, etc., neighbors.”
      No, He simply stated “love one another”.

    My opinion: This girl says she "had it all". Maybe, but she for sure never had herself. It sounds like she was struggling with bad self image, self esteem, and paranoia because of what she now says she has found "safety". She also says she isn't judge now, but she clearly still is. Perhaps she means she stopped judging herself as much.
    Being spiritual and loving yourself can still happen without all that, so Im not going to pretend to say I understand her.

      It seems this lady is Shia, not sunni, and there are some differences between the 2 "sects" of Islam.
      A woman has the right to write in the marriage that she will not accept that her husband marries anyone other than her. This is something that should be cleared up. She's okay with her husband marrying 3 others, but many if not most muslim women prefer monogamy.
      Secondly, scholars have 2 opinions regarding wearing the niqab (the face covering) but they all agree that a woman should cover her hair and neck and body in a certain way. Similarly, they also say that a man must cover his body in a certain way (but not his hair and neck and face).
      Islam is a religion that values modesty and reality.
      Non-muslims don't have to believe in or understand the concept of hijab or niqab. A person must first seek the one true religion and the one true God. Once they find that, they must strive to follow that religion's commandments to the best of their ability.
      Muslims believe in the one true God and that Islam is the one true religion, and therefore they follow the religion's commandments.
      Non-muslims don't believe in the one true God and so asking them to understand or believe in some commandments such as hijab or niqab is moot, as it is a secondary point. Even if a muslim woman chooses not to wear the hijab, that would be a sin, but her belief system at the end of the day is the true one.

      I wanted to post my comment here as well sry if it's a bother. Allowing 4 wives is actually just an old thing. It was brought down from people having 20 or more. I would never want to give my sister as a second wife to anyone. She wouldnt accept it in the first place ofc. I think we can be called a religious family in turkiye as muslims but accepting 4 wives is no rule in islam. It's AT MOST 4, directed at people who want more. And many of the muslim scholars actually adviced muslim men to have only one wife in the middle ages. At least this is how we are brought up in anatolia. So if you dont accept 4 wives thing, you are still perfectly a muslim just dont have sex with anyone other than your wife or husband whether you are a man or woman. And also face veils and black niqab is generaly not well received around me neither. Ofc it is a freedom fot anyone who wants to wear them but our thinking might be a bit different. Because humans are created as social beings and many around me believe this kind of cuts them off or at least distances them a bit. Turk women have always played a big part in country's struggles, they fought side by side with men when necessary and our outlook on this issue might stem from this. But one thing i know for sure is islam was sent to all humanity not just to arabs. And the perfect example was given in our prophet. It doesnt mean we have to copy arabic traditions, at least thats how we usually approach this matter. I have arab friends, some syrian some palestinian around me who i really like and get along with, im saying this because this sint about looking down on arabs or anything its just about being different. And for some niqab and face veil might feel liberating in some circumstances but no woman around me actually finds its so. As the comment before me pointed out, modesty and being realistic about our lustful side is the important part

      @@MaxClydeccording to both Sunni and Shia a wife can not forbid the husband to bring a second wife even if she doesn't like it since it's the husband god given right
      The only way a wife can prevent it is by writing it down in the marriage contract during the wedding and the husband has to agree with it.
      So it has to be in the contract, without it the husband can bring in more wifes into the marriage

      @sal-the-man ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Revitalization4241 even though its allowed for a husband to have more than one wife even if the wife doesn't agree to it. you should understand that its not good in general to do that because you kind of breaking her trust and its in all better to just be on good terms with your wife because its better to live without fighting between the spouses. So while technically it's allowed to do that, ethically it isn't.

      @@cindydaugherty8441 the hijab(hair covering) is a religious obligation on Muslim women. Whereas the Niqab(full face covering) that she is wearing is an option. Due to that, each woman that wears the Niqab has her own reasons for wearing one. Peter, let me compliment you on opening our eyes to different cultures and beliefs that are foreign to many of us. It gives us an appreciation for those who were raised and believe differently than us. When I worked for a major corporation, they had a program that fostered spending a few days to a week with a number of different departments to get an appreciation for what those departments did in relationship to our own. I liken it to what you're doing with these series. You do it without judgement and allow the individuals to speak openly which is so refreshing. I don't know how you are able to find those willing to participate but whatever you're doing, please keep it up because it is very enlightening and appreciated.

    I live in Romania. A few years back, i started wearing a scarf [not in a Muslim way, but more like in a Jewish style?] as well as this ankle-length dress that i made myself, but not all the time together. the point was to cover my hair and ears, especially my ears as i have issues with one of them. I did feel liberated in a way. I felt protected, i felt people were staring less at me [as in i felt they ignored me], and it felt really nice.
    Those who say they feel oppressed by their hijab/niqab/whatever, must feel that way, or why would they say it? They most likely feel they had to saying in it and it's most likely true. 2 women = 2 distinct realities.
