Ashamed to say that my knowledge of Muslim people has been from the media. I humbly apologize for believing the stereotypes, this video has opened up my mind in so many ways-THANK YOU Peter!!!
golden rule: always make your own opinion about others, NEVER be influenced by others (people, media, family and friends). You have a brain, so use it !
It's not your fault, it's the media's fault and to some degree our fault because as muslims we need to clean these misconceptions and hate towards us if we just watch it and do nothing about it, i think we can get blamed of it.
@Tsai Alice i used it ty, the problem is that is not really their country , they stole it...and no there is no problem with islam, the problem is more USA who makes wars for nothing (oil and so on actually) and destroy muslim countries...and then blame them when they migrate to have better life. The problem is more your country too, China, who mistreat their own people like shit if they dont submit to the government. i have no lesson to receive from someone who is completely brainwashed like you. Free you mind and then come and talk to me
@Tsai Alice OK, China is rich, can you talk there ??? What is the difference ???because China is not a muslim country ! China spy his people to control it, Saudi does not. China and Saudi have both advantages and inconvenients but chinese people are less free than in saudi. Chinese governement disrespect people and impose them many things. Saudi people do not dispise muslims, its the government only. Likemost of the governments in the world actually. Lol afghanistan was a buddist country...maybe but USA was not christian before the colonisation of white people...so why do you blame "muslims" and not christians ??? Oh probably because you are christian too, you are hypocrit. How the last jew survived all these years if they chased him, this story is bullshit. They all went to Israel, because they wanted a jewish country, this guy dont care about Israel, that's all. Maybe they have been some killing but Talibans are responsible, not the people. Why do you associate Islam with extremist minorities who have the power ??? I dont get it. Maybe You just dont understand the things or you are an absolute hypocrit
Thanks for allowing me to grow as a human being and helping me get exposure to culture and people outside my social circles. The world is a big place full of beauty if you take the time to appreciate it.

What a beautiful insight and kind souls you have. It doesn’t cost much to appreciate others, the way we expect others to appreciate us. Many will disagree with you, but as a revert/convert to Islam, I can vouch and say I am better person for my religion. Islam is a religion of peace and is so dear to us. It has healing powers many won’t take the time to comprehend and will ignorantly tell us, who know our religion otherwise. Thank you Carl. I pray many will take heed and leave their prejudgements at the door; prejudgements incorrectly developed by listening to the news and not looking to the people who actually practice and know their religion.
@@xxLoRiTaxx Akhi, us Europeans are reverting by the thousand subhanAllah. Alhamdullilah, there’s no longer a place anywhere in the world for prejudism and islamaphobia. It’s outdated and quite frankly, a sign that someone doesn’t have the capacity to be a decent human being. You don’t have to revert to Islam to simply respect our beliefs and commitment to Allah swt, the Sunnah of our Prophet ﷺ and our Deen. Asalamuwalaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakhatu
As a Muslim convert, I was a bit sceptical to watch this video, because I know that many Muslims shy away when talking about Islam, but I was pleasantly surprised. Great episode and I hope that people who find Islam interesting will pick up a Quran and find the truth. Inshallah!

Thank you so much for what you do. I work as an archaeologist/anthropologist and I have to say you do a better job as an ethnographer than many anthropologists I've met. May Allah bless you for the good you have brought to the world. Thank you for being you.
We do. We pray similarly. Kosher food especially from Orthodox Jews is permissible for Muslims too :) In Quran, it says we could eat food from people in scriptures eg. Jews and Christians. However, Christians rarely practice their faiths and rarely follow the scripts. They eat pork and drink alcohol so their food are prohibited :)
@Niro Pattar Well yes obviously, because all jewish prophets are also christian and muslim prophets and we all believe in the same God so yes the prophecies of Muhammad are very similar and also overlapping to the ones of the prophets before him (jewish prophets and Jesus/Isa)
@Greg Kanowitz what we believe as a Muslim, is Moses, Jesus and Muhammad, all were prophets from God to teach and lead people to right path, if you will search for truth, u will find it, if islam had been anti Jews, it eating kosher would have been forbidden for us, bt its not, cz we believe on the same God with different name, n slaughter the animal by taking name of same God
Thank you from a white Muslim revert sister from the Netherlands. This was a great conversation. I like that you ask the questions to get to know more, to understand more, not in a way to put any of your own assumptions on someone, that is great!
@Niro Pattar yup, there's a whole lot of other disturbing verses and Hadith in Islam, like their Allah calling Christians, Jews, and other non believers "the worst of creatures"
@@harolddawkins9593 Lmao that particular verse was talking about the 'People of the Scriptures' that engage in all forms of evil acts, corruption and taking advantage of others. If you read other part of the Quran, you will know it is also mentioned that Munafiqun (Muslims that are pretends to be good people but deceive and take advantage of others, commit evil acts) will be judged in the hereafter and also enter the hellfire. So it is not only about people that are not Muslims, but about the behaviors of some people. America is the most religious country in the world, even just the fact that we have the freedom to sin is a testament to its religiousness. A country like Saudi Arabia that just forces religious law just creates obedience to the state not God.

I am so glad people will see this. I am not Muslim myself but believe true Islam is a beautiful religion.
Thank You Samantha for writing this. I feel bad for others who have a negative opinion about Islam. The religion is pure, we are sometime not following. People usually believe what they saw on the media, since it was scripted to temper the minds before any elections.

A terrific and informative discussion of a spectrum perspectives! I really liked the point about how certain misperceptions of Islam really is rooted in cultural issues specific to a nation/region.👏👏 The most striking thing I learned from my Muslim peers and students is a general sense of modesty and pride in maintaining traditions, which are shared central core concepts within the Confucian-based Korean culture. One of our students (Gujarati) was very open in sharing cultural aspects of Islam, most eye-opening of which for me was that MEN also have to follow the modesty dress code (i.e. no silk, no gold, and no exposure above ankle). I guess it's no surprise that Korean Dramas (particularly the historical genre) are popular across the Muslim world! 😀

I was just watching an interview done by a non-Muslim man with a “diverse” group of Muslims. One of his questions was directed to a sister who was not wearing hijab, while the others were in “hijab”. He asked why she didn’t wear it, and, as expected, the answer was that it is a choice. Sadly, no one in the gathering corrected or qualified that statement. What do I mean by that? It’s like if someone asked my why I ran a red light and I answered by saying, because it’s a choice. Is it though? Yes, I suppose; it was a choice to run a red light and break the law while it is still illegal and a punishable crime. However, it is not a choice in that the law doesn’t say, stop at a red light, but if you choose not to, it’s ok, there are no consequences. Similarly here, yes, it is her choice not to wear the hijab and break Allah’s law, but that does not mean it is ok or acceptable. It is a punishable crime and not something approved of in Islam. It is sad that this mentality exists in our communities. In an effort to prove that we are not “extreme”, we give many generic answers which are in fact a type of dishonesty. Why don’t you pray; oh, because it’s a choice, forced religion is no religion. Why did you (a Muslim woman) marry a non-Muslim man or you (a Muslim man) marry a Hindu woman; oh, because it’s a choice, we all have freedom of choice. Such answers are ridiculous and absurd. Some think they are doing Islam a favour when giving such answers, when in fact, all they’re doing is misinforming others and exposing themselves to Allah’s wrath and punishment. ~ Shaykh Younus Kathrada ~

Yet we treat our own muslim minorities like animals. I hardly ever comment or subscribe to TH-cam channels but Peter, I genuinely appreciate your open-heartedness and work you have done with all these faiths/communities. As a British Muslim, I too am constantly surrounded with negative stereotyping and the like here. I've major anxiety shopping and going out in general as I'm so familiar with being treated harshly. Whilst there are absolutely amazing individuals who treat you well, you get the fair share of the total opposite. To see a non-muslim man being so loving towards us publically is just beautiful. You've no idea how many bridges you are building here. God bless you and your work.
Assalamualaikum.. alhamdulillah...very nice conversation with fellow Muslim brothers and sisters..... thanks Peter.... Very much love from Malaysia ❤️❤️🇲🇾🇲🇾.. we are welcoming you with our great hospitality and diversity as well.....😁😁
When you asked what in American culture clashes with Islam, the first thing that came to my mind was the use of 'interest". Mortgage etc.. Islam forbids any use of interest and the rule is 1 for 1. So one dollar can only be returned as one dollar, no more no less. In the USA, and even the world for that matter, the use of interest in all business or commerce related endeavors is the norm. If you want to buy a house, mortgage, if you want to buy a car, finance, if you want to open a business, business credit loan and so forth. I find that such normalization of borrowing money to repay it for more than its worth is a flawed concept that leads individuals, usually, to bad financial decisions and consequently more unsound decisions in other aspects of their lives. I also truly believe that the forbiddance of interest use would lead the world to a more financially sound future.
@@scott5521 From my understanding, the initial establishment of banks was for security purposes. You didnt want to carry a brick of gold around to use as money, and so banks were created to hold your "money" for you and give you a voucher that can be redeemed later. Interest promotes greed. You often bite more than you can chew. You might have 100$ in the bank but due to "credit lines" be motivated to reach for something that costs well beyond your means. It's a flawed predatory tactic all around. Maybe banks shouldn't exist?
@@AbdallahMassoud1 I completely disagree. That is like blaming gluttony on food and not the individual. Loans and credit are what help poor people to start businesses. It also helps people to own homes. Without a mortgage most people would never be able to buy their own house or own land
As a Muslim stuck in the middle of a small (and almost Muslim free) town in Texas, this was so great to see. These are conversations I wish could be had here. Thank you so much for this!
Love to see people from different backgrounds talking about their lives there in USA and misconceptions about Islam. Islam is Perfect but Muslims are not. Don't mix culture and religion when it comes to making an opinion about someone. This is the message to the whole world. Thanks for being a person of bringing people together. Love and Peace ❤️
Well as someone who is Muslim and born in a Muslim country my experience was different , when I went abroad to a none Muslim country I found it very hard to hold on to my religion , i missed the call to prayer so much and so many problems that I ended up depressed and just wanted to go home and that’s what I did. So I think it’s different from a person to an other
I went Svalbard for 1 year, there I found three Muslims and it was the best experience I had in my life. Many non Muslims were kind and open minded and the ones who actually were most interested in Islam were the Agnostics and Catholics (a french catholic). ❤️ Love to our cousins and brothers in humanity and especially the educated ones
Peter~ I am humbled. If you have the opportunity to get a word back to the gentleman in the mustard colored pants and striped shirt, please let him know that his expressed concern about how many people this would reach INSPIRES me to pass this far and wide. Atop of the entire program. Your work is unbelievably important. I am grateful.
Peter, This is a such wonderful video! As always watching your videos makes me feel much more hopeful for the better world and more connected with the people around the world. Thank you so much.
48:00, a mention of my country, Malaysia 🇲🇾. Thank you sister. And yes, I’d like to reaffirm the fact that me included & many of other Muslim women here are grateful that we’re privileged with Islamic empowerment, rights & free will. If I may add something to the conversation I would say that if you want to be true to the finding out what Islamic values are, it’s best to talk to the legitimate Islamic scholars - who have studied very deeply, certified in Islamic studies to really be able to give more accurate answers. Seeking it from a collective group of Muslims from various backgrounds is one of the right steps, but will surely not cover all as it may differ based on personal biases etc. To understand the core belief system, going to the scholars will help better. Hope that makes sense 😊
Assalamualaikum.. Hi fellow Malaysian 🙋🏻♀️😊 yeah I can vouch for that statement as well. We are lucky and blessed to live in Malaysia that I can say progresive yet we hold true to our faith strongly while enjoying all the privileges Islam provides for Muslim women.

The comment about not always getting along with a co-worker, yet having the ability to turn it around when it’s time to suit up and work as a team, is the absolute truth about who we are as a whole. I enjoy hearing progressive/woke young folk from various cultures speaking, thanks for producing this episode! I am rarely in those circles, this is fun to hear.
Islam is everything but woke. They are very conservative. Their values are basically God, Familly, solidarity and hard work. I would call that woke 😂😂😂
The gentleman who speaks around 37 minutes, I have to say as a Jew we run into a lot of the same issues that he is describing. We have to be careful to ask what G-d wants of us and I will add, to ask Him for clarity to go on the right path as opposed to what we think is the right path. That's also why it's important to seek out the right guidance. Thank you for an honest conversation. We all have a lot to learn from each other I find.
Funny you mention that... while he visited the Hasidic jews of NewYork, as a muslim they looked more closer to beliefs and culture with muslims than what is seen as the rest of west in popular culture.
@Arnold Norris I was talking to a general audience and I'm an observant Jew, yes. Allah is equivalent to Kel or E-l which is translated as G-d in English.
I'm very interested in Dan. I'm almost unhealthily curious as to how and why he went from knowing nothing about Islam to becoming a Muslim in 6 D A Y S . That must be quite the story and I really want to know more. He asks, "How much time you got?", I got plenty for that story. I'm geniunely fascinated.

Religion all the way back has been changed during the council of nicaea so all you get is arguing because all the great books have two meanings (hence nicaea) They all come together with a perfect message. ♥️

A huge fan of your vlog contents and this one was no exception! I always learn something good, something new...very educational. Thank you Peter for all your great work!!
Such a lovely video. My parents grew up very near Ohio's Amish country (Tuscarawas & Ashland Co.). They moved to Dearborn where I was raised. We are Christian, but we grow deeper in our faith through our connections with our Muslim neighbors. ❤Fun Fact: We just discovered Qamaria Yemeni Coffee in Grand Blanc & enjoy it very much.
Thank you for another great video. We will only become closer and more understanding of each other with content like this. I truly appreciate people like you who are open to conversation and open to learning.
This was such an important conversation especially here in media. We usually see disturbing content on how Islam is horrible, and never get a day to just sit and listen. I think they’ve opened some great points here. Mashallah! 💜
Peter, I owe you an apology for my comment about the first video, and I thank you for bringing together the sects and differences and showing their views.
I’m from Detroit. I still live there for the majority of the year. I went to school with Arabs, blacks and whites. There was never any major issues. Even after 9/11 when the government was pushing hate towards middle eastern people, we didn’t take the bait. We knew better. They are our people. We respect and work with them and they do the same with everyone. They’re just normal people. Like normal people, some are nicer than others, some are more generous etc.
Love how Peter gives so many groups of people a chance to speak, share their knowledge and opinions not just in this video, but in others as well, all while not judging them and just purely to try to learn about them and their perspective. From an Islamic perspective , you are doing a good deed that Allah will reward! Keep it up!
I’m very impressed by your ability to foster meaningful discussions like this. This takes skill, great work. I think your participants were a significant factor as well. All around good talk!
@Tsai Alice what the hell is wrong with the comment section it has been an absolute dumpster fire.

I also truly believe that the forbiddance of interest use would lead the world to a more financially sound future.
that is how banks make money. otherwise how would they exist?

@celebrul_anonim_ Hope you cured soon, vomiting too much is not a good sign.
This was a real eye opener on the Islam faith. Very interesting. Thanks for doing this.
This was so beautiful to watch definitely learned a lot so thank you for this
Peter, I'm from Indonesia, I'm a Muslim. I like your videos. Your videos tell about many religions and you gave me knowledge not only about Islam in the USA but also Jewish, Amish, etc. May Allah bless you and your family...
Wow. True Journalist.
I ask God raises you with Honor on Judgement Day. You’re a good dude educating us with your uploads. 👍👍👍
True journalist , but that's about it!! 👍🏻
The comment about not always getting along with a co-worker, yet having the ability to turn it around when it’s time to suit up and work as a team, is the absolute truth about who we are as a whole.
The division in this country goes much deeper than onlookers are paying attention to (including our own)! ❤️
And people act like Muslims/Middle easterners can’t be American yet Muslims/Middle easterners after 911 joined the military and served for us simply to be accepted
Peter great job at introducing Americans to Americans.👍🏽
I think woman at 16:20 put it very well. Very nice heart to heart from ordinary folks. Their voices need to be heard.
They are not Americans
I love how the first girl explained the benefits of praying. Alhamdoulillah
A Great and insightful discussion with multi- layered depth providing a voice for a community we dont really get the chance to hear from. Real muslims not what the media portrays. And that food 🥘 🍲 looks delicious. A great moment for humanity. We are all human. Well done Peter 👍
Thanks' Peter for sharing informal discussion with our Muslims brother in USA. Warm love from Indonesia
Really enjoyed this conversation. Love from Iran ❤️
guard of revolution?
It's September 2023. Dearborn is where i am from. In-fact my family originally built the houses in the subdivision of Charles & Michels streets off of Michigan Avenue. I feel great pride in the community of residents!
Thank you, Peter for interviewing a blessed community...
Maasha Allah the diversity in this community is another level and amazing Allahumabarik❤️❤️
Thanks for sharing this my brother, you get my subscribe😊
I enjoy hearing progressive/woke young folk from various cultures speaking, thanks for producing this episode! I am rarely in those circles, this is fun to hear.
You must try to visit them
They would not classify themselves as progressive or woke. Just Muslim patriots.
Islam is everything but woke. They are very conservative. Their values are basically God, Familly, solidarity and hard work. I would call that woke 😂😂😂
Muslims are not supposed to be progressive or “woke”at all actually. It goes against our religion.
@lailaofegyptwhich is good. We already see what the woke culture did to the west
@@WizeIce1 and I would like to add that the hospitality originated with our common father Abraham, as we read about this past week.
Without Christ there is nothing...your basic vocations are very much empty.
@@HopeLaFleur1975 if you do some research about Islam, you'll be surprised how Jesus Peace be upon Him revered and loved as a Prophet of God.
We need more from Dan
Yeah, 6 days to completely change everything you believe in? Quite honestly, I'm surprised they would even allow such a knee-jerk reaction.
@@1QKGLH He most probably hat a lot of knowledge about God through his earlier devout practice. It's like being an expert craftsman and then picking up a different technique whose merits you can clearly see.
@@alijabevrnja4310 Haha. Going from Christianity to Islam is NOT a different technique. It's a whole different world-view. It's not like deciding you don't like Ford trucks anymore and now you like Chevy.
@@1QKGLH Then you do not know one, the other or neither. They are incredibly similar. Especially in the context of multitude of present different worldviews, those two are remarkably similar. A very pious muslim checks almost all of the moral values that a very pious christian has to and vice versa. The differences are in rituals and some practices, but both essentially believe in the same God, strive for his Grace, have similar ethical vertical, view human beings as intrinsically valuable etc.
Loved it, learned so much. Thank you Peter
I have been a huge fan and have had an opportunity to watch almost all of your videos. It would be really interesting to bring in folks from all religions (Judaism, Christianity, Islam and others too if possible) under one roof, discuss and share their experiences. The goal here is let the world know that we are all human beings at the end of the day. Thank you so much for doing this brother. Peace ✌🏼 😊❤️🌹👏🏻

Religion all the way back has been changed during the council of nicaea so all you get is arguing because all the great books have two meanings (hence nicaea)
They all come together with a perfect message.
♥️
@@BIGPIE3333 that's all a lie,quit watching tel-lieye-vision
@@Kolosso_369 The council of Nicaea was first formed in 325 ad. The church leaders were trying to solidify power. They composed a book (the bible) and determined what will be taught. This book censored many of the original teachings of Jesus. Once their power was solidified, they proceeded to slaughter those that disagreed. Namely the Cathcars. Not much has changed with all religions.

Open conversations lead to great destinations.
This was such an important conversation especially here in media. We usually see disturbing content on how Islam is horrible, and never get a day to just sit and listen. I think they’ve opened some great points here. Mashallah! 💜
You mean honor killings 😂😂😂
Salaam alaikum!
saying hi to strangers looks so easy for you and i admire that of your personality... keep it up, u r doing a fantastic work for the world.
Peter, I owe you an apology for my comment about the first video, and I thank you for bringing together the sects and differences and showing their views.
These interviews are soo interesting and I always learn something I didn't know, really good video
Masya Allah..
I m from indonesian. I hope one day i can meet with them, if i'm going there.
Barakallah for all.
We are sister/brother one religion.
Great diverse group to interview Peter! Thank you so much Hatim, thank you everyone.
Love how Peter gives so many groups of people a chance to speak, share their knowledge and opinions not just in this video, but in others as well, all while not judging them and just purely to try to learn about them and their perspective.
From an Islamic perspective , you are doing a good deed that Allah will reward! Keep it up!
I am from Indonesia. Thank you for mentioning my country. We live congenially and peacefully with other religions here...
I’m very impressed by your ability to foster meaningful discussions like this. This takes skill, great work. I think your participants were a significant factor as well. All around good talk!
