Thanks for the Video I've been trying to do some research for couple days I've got a 2008 Chevy Malibu LT with the 3.6 V6 in it & been trying to figure out where the Crankshaft Positioning Sensor was located & out of all the Videos this 1 was literally the simplest & Straight Foward just shows how Comon Sense is lacking in the Mechanical World these days lol
Hey what's going on Tim, I had a quick question I have a 2009 GMC Acadia with the 3.6 VVT , has a knocking sound but you can let it set and idle forever and it will never overheat or die. Once you try to drive it over around 2k RPM or 25 MPH it will start cutting out and eventually shut off. When I hook up to it with my scanner and watch live data the camshaft position sensor reading is always at 0 RPM while the engine is running. Could the Knock sensor be the issue here? I have already replaced the 4 whole VVT Sensors and Actuators among countless other pricey things. Thank you in advance.
Hey. I have 2007 XL7 and once on the motorway it shut the engine and now I have a timing chain fault code. What do you reckon? Is it more likely collision or the sensor?
@@timzauto do you think it collided? When cranking there is no noise. If it did collide how to check it? I don't want to take head off just to learn expensive way
Thanks for the video, Tim! I'm looking to buy a 2012 Enclave with 100k miles that had its crankshaft position sensor replaced at 97,000. Is that a red flag with respect to the dependability of the car? Why was the one you replaced so dirty? Is that what you expected? Thanks!
They will always be dirty, they are magnetized,as far as dependable I would say yes but not as dependable and long lasting as a Honda or Toyota, thanks for watching.
It will be the crank or cam sensor, since they are pretty easy to change, replace the crank sensor and see if your symptoms stop, if you don't have a graph scanner to look at all the sensors while it's running.
Great video the only thing I would like for you to do is take more time to show exactly where the sensor was I had to watch Three to five times to get where it was but that may just be me great video thanks
@timzauto I thought the G8 3.6 had the LY7 motor. This video is shaky and had too much of a close up to get a grasp on where he is under there.. I looked under my car. And it looks like the sensor is located where I guess the transmission pan or whatever would be.
Good grief,it isn't shaky and I explain exactly where the sensor is,I even point out the knock sensor next to it,I film everything I don't have a film crew to film me,look under the car it's up above on the passenger side,I've done hundreds of 3.6 and that year they are all in the same place.
Best video on TH-cam about this all others show from passenger tire and claim to be the car and model but yours was exact. Appreciate it 🍻
Thanks for watching.

Thank you. Darn thing is I broke bolt hole and it looked good besides that. Still getting a new one now.
This is a heck of a lot easier to get to than the 2007 Buick rendezvous 3.5 crank sensor.
Yes it is,thanks for watching.
Does this 2011 chevy malibu 3.6 have a camshaft position sensor by chance?
Did yours have a transfer case you took off? Cause mine is almost impossible to get to.
Where's exactly is the camshaft position sensor located at on a 2008 saturn outlook
The camshaft position sensors are different and are near the cams up above near the valve covers

Sounds like the knock sensor which is right next to the crank sensor.
How many crankshaft position sensor is just one I know the camshaft sensor they are 4 is on the top
Just one for the Crankshaft.
Did you have to remove the wheel to gain access?
No.
Hey. I have 2007 XL7 and once on the motorway it shut the engine and now I have a timing chain fault code. What do you reckon? Is it more likely collision or the sensor?
Sounds like the timing chain, make sure the chain is still on.
@@timzauto do you think it collided? When cranking there is no noise. If it did collide how to check it? I don't want to take head off just to learn expensive way
@@mrantek7373 just take the oil cap off and see if the cam is moving when you turn it over.just look and see if anything moves.
@@timzauto ok. Tks. However if chain is still on and only skipped links it will move it anyways.
great video l was wondering whats the other sensor next too the one your replacing for?
The knock sensor it "listens out for" the structure-borne vibrations from the engine block and converts these into electrical voltage signals.
Mine is nothing like this that top sheild bolt is crazy to get to😢😢

Sounds good. Thanks for responding!@@timzauto
Hi i have this same engine im getting a crank but no start do you think it would be this sensor?
Could be,could be a starter,battery,etc..
Just curious what codes were you getting?
PO335 Crank also PO340 will be Camshaft sensor, but most likely with these engines if it doesn't have a no start problem it will be the timing chain.
Is this in the same location for a 3.0l ? Thanks
Yes
Is this an AWD?
No
Question
My 2010 Buick enclave starts and some times it don’t start can it be this or the starter I have code p0017

Sorry u had problems, always feel free to ask me,thanks for watching.
look at 1:09
Are you underneath the driver side ?
Has anyone done this on an AWD? It took me 3 hours on a jack today. Wondering if there was an easier way. Had to do most of the job blind
I am attempting it with a 3.6 GXP AWD and it looks like I need to remove the transfer case. This is going to be a big job for a $30 sensor.
great video
Definitely not from a 2011 Buick Enclave. It is not that easy to get to, even with an extension it is impossible to reach. No room to work with
Just tried the cam shaft didn't fix the problem hopefully this one will fix it if not then I know its the timing. That's going to be expensive to fix
Helpful as fuck
Not ANY gm 3.6, AWD not same
yes it is,same engine same place, transmission is the only thing different, thanks for watching.
Wife’s car is a G8 with the 3.6 L and this is not the same engine… guess not all 3.6 are created equally. Video is misleading
Yes you are right,in the description I said I was replacing out of a Buick Enclave which is the most common 3.6 LLT,the G8 has a 3.6 LGZ
@timzauto
I thought the G8 3.6 had the LY7 motor.

No the 3.6 you got is for the rear wheel drive car. The same engine is in Camaro. The 3.6 on video is for front wheel drive cars.
