Today I talk about some of the challenges and cost associated with getting Gift a visa. We had to book our Flights and accommodations in advance. I hope that I’m just not throwing money down the drain. Gift went to visit her family, took a special trip and I’m not sure when she will return.

I believe Taiwan is a country. Only China refuses to recognize it as such.

Sounds like a great trip to Europe. So much to do, but also a great place to just kick back and relax. Got my first taste of Europe in the 80’s at Hahn AB. Since retirement been back 6-7 times on cruises, with some traveling on the front side or back side of the cruise each time. It was super hot and crowded last July, but you should be okay if going April=May-June timeframe. Loooking forward to the videos!

My wife (Thai) and I went to Europe last year (2nd trip)...6 cities in 5 countries, mostly the old eastern block. I booked everything myself. We liked Germany a lot so we're going back this April/May to Germany, starting in Frankfurt and ending in Munich. Like you, I booked all hotels that can be cancelled. The only thing I can't cancel are all the train tickets between the various cities that we're visiting, but they don't add up to much. Yes, ETIAS is postponed until 2025. After an Air B&B host cancelled on me within a week of our arrival to Australia, almost wrecking our Aussie vacation, I've never done Air B&B again and never will. Air B&B would not do anything for us except offer us 10% off our next rental. We had to stay in a hostel, it was the only resonable place available on that short of notice. It stunk. Have a good trip!

Sounds like an awesome trip. But 1 day in my home country Denmark, is a bit short. Copenhagen has allready been seen by alot. I would recommend Billund, Legoland, take a drive up to Aarhus or even Skagen - The most northern part of dk. Its beautiful in spring time

There are townhouses behind built but I haven’t heard anything about condos.

I am retired Air Force and DOD civilian, DOD Dependents Schools 31 years in Japan, now 20 years in Bangkok. Joe, you and I share a lot of govt service history. I have insurance with American Foreign Service, under AETNA and it is SUPER! I know you have Tri-Care. I use BNH and usually it's 100 percent covered. Regarding your upcoming European tour with Gift, I recommend Turkey as part of the trip, if you can!

Düsseldorf to Denmark and Sicily to Austria distances are to far for a day trip unless you fly (80-100$ one way without luggage DUS-CPH,CTA-VIE 150-250$)
Having lived in Italy for approximately 10 yrs I’m familiar with what countries I can visit on day trips and from what locations that is possible. As I said in this video, we will spent some time in Pordenone Italy, from there we can travel to Villach Austria in under 2 hours and Slovenia where my friends live in less than 75 minutes. We have experience with VFS for Schengen visa (for Belgium) and they always need more time and extra documents while we already provided everything. First time it took almost 2 months and 2 applications to get approved for only a 30 days visa.
Now busy with the second visa for another visit (for 60 days) and it's not going smooth.
Hopefully that won’t be our experience. Are you from Belgium?
Yes, I'm from Belgium. I'm 39 and spend my time between Thailand and Belgium. 5 months Thailand and 7 months Belgium. My Lady just want to be able to travel with me to Belgium but for Thai citizens it's very difficult..
I've heard the easiest country's to apply for is Germany and the Netherlands. Schengen visa is like you know valid for visiting most country's in Europe.@@thaigirlgiftforeignerjoe7774

I thought the Schengen Visa was prety easy to get.. just need the applicable funds to show support :)
I guess we will find out. It’s more than just proof of funds, one also show proof that flights and accommodations have been booked as well as proof of travel insurance. According to a few comments, even with the above mentioned, some visas get denied.

I'm 62 also and have been collecting ss for about 2 months less than you and i'm in the same boat owing taxes. But using turbo tax as my calculator, i was able to shrink my tax bill this year to zero by using an ira contribution. Haven't filed my taxes yet but we are allowed to make an ira contribution up until april 15 2024 for the tax year 2023

When my parner want to visit the Netherlands, (she is from Indonesia) she only need a address where she stays and at least €35 a day for every day she stays. This is not needed if she have a sponsor who invites her with a letter. Maybe your family who live in Germany can do that gor Gift.

I’m retired on Social Security, and I have pers retirement for short while. I have 20% taken out of my Social Security and I also have 20% taken out of my purse for taxes I get everything back that they take out at the end of the year again that’s how I plan on going to Thailand soon but I do have to get my passport between myself and Covid I will let mine lapse a few years lol so yeah, that’s my uptake on taxes and retirement. Yes VFS is great as we did with them for Australia.
I think they are on Sukhumvit 13. Lift 10. For EU I am not sure but yes VFS is used by Australian Government.

Good luck with the immigration authorities. Will you travel alone if push comes to shove? Before we were married a tourist visa was rejected. as the Home Office stated " how do we know that she intends to return". Catch 22!
I prefer to travel with Gift, so push comes to shove and Gift doesn’t get her visa the first go around, we will try again. If that doesn’t work, then I will just travel later this year to visit my sons.

Life is good indeed. We do not plan on staying in any military lodgings. Prefer to be in the towns enjoying the local life and food.
