    Chuck, this was golden and very helpful. It is amazing how even when we come to the land of Sabai Sabai because we are exhausted with the western way of life, we still carry the burden of worrying about everything all the time. Changing your geographical location is easy. Changing your mindset and approach to life is challenging. Thanks for pointing the way.

    I retired from the US Government and my Job at one time was traveling and working with many Governments in Southeast Asia. One thing I learned is that nothing is written in stone. Not like the US. The people will work with you to make things work even if it's not a policy. Most of the time there was no written policy, just be nice and respectful, things will work out.

    I am a retired Australian living in Chum Phae. I have an O marriage visa and only need to show 400k per year income from Australia. If immigration asks for 6 photos give them 8 if they ask for photo copies give them 2. Also don't argue with them just go with the flow.

    Everything you say is spot on, Chuck. I have been here a year now (from the UK), and I am very happy. The Visa process is not such a big deal. Be patient, smile and ask questions and you will find your way. Fantastic Country, I love the food, people, beaches and the serenity of living here. Sabai Sabai people, and don't worry too much about things you can't control. Keep the videos coming Chuck. 🙏👍

    Absolutely right Chuck - I always feel welcome as soon as soon as I step off the plane at BKK.
    This is why I will return in May on a one way ticket .
    I'm getting my O - A visa in UK so I can bring what I need when I make the move.

    My first 90 day check in experience was when we were on one of our Island trips over 2 years ago during covid. Paige helped me translate a couple of things and it was accepted in 15 minutes and an hour later it was approved. Been doing them online ever since. No glitches. However, I'm moving back to Seattle where my property taxes were $1,100 a month, my electricity bill hovered around $200, my water bill was around $70, my natural gas bill in the winter was $250 a month. state sales and county tax was 9.6%, and gas is $5.00 a gallon. (and none of this includes a house payment or rent or food) 🤣🤣🤣 Great Topics and experiences. Thanks Chuck

    Hi Chuck and Paige
    Good video and I hope it calms the mass paranoia, I just renewed my non o visa in December and it was a simple process, there was a bit of a queue that day and it took 3 hours waiting but I’m retired and have nothing but time here , the lady who checks the paperwork before they give you a number to see the immigration officer did ask where my money comes from , I told them savings which it does , she marked the box gave my number and waited to be called and it all went very smoothly, my 90 day check in takes under 2 minutes and that’s in korat area which is a busy office, due to the amount of migrant workers in the factories around here , but all in all it’s easy , much easier than the first time but once you’re in the system it seems easy ,
    Regards Davy 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇹🇭

    I spent a couple of days at NP immig sorting out a visa last year. It was difficult to put it mildly. They told me the info I was told at Bkk immig before I went up to NP was not how it worked at NP immig. They operate under some different regulations at other immig offices. I had to return to Bkk to sort it out. Was also surprised to find when I went to NP immi, I thought I'd found it in a building at the river. It had all the signs all over the building saying immig, so I went inside wandering around the building. All the relevant signs and offices were inside with no one around. I eventually found a security guard who spoke no english. I showed him my passport and he pointed me down the road. Then I found out it had moved several years earlier, to several hundred metres down the road, but they hadn't bothered to remove all the signage on the old building. Or even put a sign directing people to the new building. Amazing Thailand. 👍

    • @notime2bsad
      @notime2bsad  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sounds like you entered the Twilight zone. Immigration office is on the river here in nkp. Maybe you went to a Thai Lao border crossing immigration office for them only....

    • @Wilko11
      @Wilko11 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@notime2bsad No apparently it was the main immigration office years ago. Google maps even directed me to it, but I think it's been corrected now. I asked at the new immigration office about it, and they said yes it used to be their office years ago. It was an old building so not sure how many years. I asked why they'd not removed all the signage, with no response. It backed onto the river, the new one is on the opposite side of the road a few hundred metres further down.

    I totally agree with you chuck, my Thai wife and I still live here in Austrailia but listening to you talk about these things put my mind at ease, your right all the things I have heard, can really mess with your head, but I know having been there many times 99.9 % of it was untrue, these days even here in Austrailia I have stopped listening and worrying about this stuff, we just live our lives it’s up to them how they live there’s, it is what it is just live your own life, do the best that you can, and life goes on if I don’t like it then I find away to rethink it, Austrailia is still a fantastic place to live my wife loves it here, so until that changes, I’m happy, but I have options I love Thailand, and can live there to, everyone has choices up to them, and me, so thank you for sharing the truth as it is it really isn’t that hard a, cheers 🍻

    The last time I stayed there, my wife and I went to the immigration office and sorted out my visa extension.
    Also, we enquired about theTM30, and my wife was told that she needs to complete a TM30 within 24 hours of my arrival. Immigration was very helpful, and there were no fines for my wife to pay for failing to register my stay that time.

    Hi Chuck and Paige. I just relocated to Jomeiten in October last year. I renjoy your videos. I find those who gehe more uptight as usually those not in the country. I find the biggest change one needs to make living here is to try to become more Thai-like. Enjoy the culture and the wonder of living here. Don't bring your western expectations. Instead melt into the Thai society. It will take some time but you will be much happier and enjoy your life much more. Sweating the small stuff is just ridiculous. This is not the west. Leave those things back there. It is awesome to have been given the opportunity to retire here. Sometimes I have to pinch myself. Keep up the great travel videos.

    One of the things that sets you a part from most is you make sense. As I've discussed with my wife, when we come to thailand its not to sit in a rocking chair and do nothing. Our long term plan is to travel. WE easily can do that without a visa at first and as you say, if we end up spending more time in thailand than outside of thailand then visa it is.

EVEN if they could somehow manage to sideline the issue of not being double taxed - this is a country that couldn't even implement the 300baht tourist tax (not to mention all the other things that never come into fruition) - how the hell could they manage to tax what we bring into the country - the whole thing is just so silly..... Very informative Chuck Getting ready to do my non -O extension for 5th time . One thing I may add IF your passport expires within the year extension they will only extend the extension for the life of your passport . My passport expires in July 2025 and I like to do my extension the same time every year in mid January , so when I get my extension I’m going to apply for a new passport immediately so that next year I’ll be able to extend the same time as always. After getting the new passport , go to immigration and get your yearly stamp transferred in new passport

  • @dufffredq8
    @dufffredq8 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    My wife and I have been doing our extension with Korat immigration since 2014. Great people, friendly and helpful. We visit the week before to check if there have been any changes in regulations. Do the application, yep, lots of paper and copies but no issues. Return the next month to pick up the visa. 1,900 baht for the extension and 300 baht for the bank statement letter (has to be the same day as the visa application day so we go there first). Once a year. The 90 day is a quick visit, in and out. Never had any luck with the online, but I gave up and never revisited it in recent years. Its an opportunity to recharge my motorcycle battery or a MacroMarket day if my wife wants to shop. Works for me.

    The new tax law states ''all foreign income" that includes pensions, it may not be 35%, it might just be 5%, but it's still a tax. In due time one's Thai bank could be legislated to deduct this tax on foreign deposit remittances. That's not scare mongering, that's fact. That system already exists in many countries with deposit interest retention tax, or DIRT as it sometimes referred to. So it's not complicated to implement this in the Thai banking system, should it be the case.

    • @notime2bsad
      @notime2bsad  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I see, so you believe that a private bank is going to charge its customers 5% + tax and then hand that money over to the government. So you think the banks will agree to that, and be able to determine what is for an income and what is not. Yea okay....

    • @alexandros4703

      @@notime2bsad
      Hi Chuck, I don't believe anything until it happens but surely you must agree that there is much ambiguity surrounding the terminology of these new tax laws? As you are aware, if you are a resident for longer than 180 days in TL you are considered to be a Tax Resident regardless of your Visa status (LTR exempt) and legally are obliged to submit an annual tax return.
      Example (A) Mick sells a property in his country of origin, and he then transfers $145,000 US or part of these proceeds to his Thai bank account to supposedly purchase a Condo in TL. Under the Thai Tax Code, as we currently understand it, these are assessable funds and liable to tax on remittance to Thailand.
      Example (B) Joe sustains himself on his foreign property rental income which is remitted to Thailand. This is considered to be assessable income and is taxable in TL. Many other examples include Pensions but basically if [Mick or Joe] have an assessable income of over 120,000 baht per year, they must file an annual tax return.

      Retention and automatic deduction of deposit interest tax by banks on behalf of Gove revenue departments is nothing new, in fact, it's common practice in my country of residence. And btw, for example, Siam Commercial Bank could hardly be described as a private bank.

      @@alexandros4703 I can attest that this is a fact as I have such a foreign bank account in a different country. It is a burden on the resident to later prove what is income (or what is not) and reclaim the tax withheld, when year end tax is filed. Filing is mandatory, else you lose all the amount withheld in case a refund is due. Thanks.

      I would have second thoughts about living here on a retirement visa and traveling here if I had to go to immigration 2 times a week to tell them I have arrived home now. If they had an actual record of where I have travelled I would be surprised. I would think it would be a topic with the officer sense our time here is spent traveling. I would just pay the 1600 baht penalty if that Ever happens. Up to you.

    I am married to a Thai so I only have to keep 400,000 baht in Bangkok Bank for the first year. Now I can spend it as long as I have the same equivalent amount coming into the bank as a monthly deposit. At least that is what immigration says in Sisaket, Thailand tells me and I only renew there. I too paid a little extra for the in and out stamp in my passport. We built a 2 bedroom house in rural Sisaket and paid fully so our home expenses are basically $60 for electric (we have three AC units) and about one dollar for water. I am retired from the USA and a totally disabled Veteran. I still keep a car in the USA in my daughter’s garage and a small RV in a storage yard there for my USA visits. I love Thailand. I know about the research of Thailand and yes, you cannot believe everything you read, and Thailand is always changing the rules. I am not worried about the silly crap some Utubers say about taxes. I have no work permit but I can get one but I do not need to work so not an issue.

      I am curious how you would do that. Usually if you are transferring money from your country and it is coming from your bank how would you even get tax free money here. If you are making money in most western countries you have to pay tax on that money. I think that is not going to happen. I am going tomorrow to extend my visa l will share on a video. If I had to guess there's not going to be a problem but we'll see. No double tax in USA.

      Check the website of the Thai consulate you are using. I think some countries offer an O visa in the home country. However, you can get the O visa inside Thailand as Chuck suggests.
      Note that you do not need medical insurance if you are extending an O visa. If you still want insurance that is a separate topic from getting a visa. There are Thai insurance companies and companies outside Thailand that will cover you here. There are too many variables to recommend to someone. You just have to do the research yourself.

Now we are dealing with American Immigration and it is much more difficult to deal with than Thailand was. We have hired a law firm in Bangkok to help us with the paperwork. We plan to spend time in America and also plan to spend time in Thailand. But we have always been treated fairly in Thailand. The only thing about coming on a passport for the 30 days, its not enough time for the bank account to mature for the 2 months they say is needed as well as finding a bank that will open an account for you without a visa. But like you said some offices arent going to care as long as the money is there.

      There are many expats that live in thailand. A large percentage of them got their visa here on their own without an agent when you come here go to immigration and tell them you want to apply for a non-ovisa. It will give you a 90-day visa which can be extended for a year. Your first deposit needs to be within 60 days of that visas exporation. They don't expect you to come here on a tourist visa and automatically have the money..... If that seems to be too complicated just spend $1,000+ and have somebody do it for you. I established my account on my 3 month visa and got it extended from there. Joe did same. Getting an account is not an easy thing in itself.....
