Hey Charles I live in NZ and this pissed me off so much, the media also barely covered it besides I think one outlet. The reason the sentence is so light is partially the apology but it’s also because our current government is on a mission to get prison numbers/population down and they have basically strived to achieve that by not passing justice onto any criminals for over a year. I was jumped a year ago and the lost half a tooth and broken 3 ribs and the cops came after somebody driving past saw what happened but when they got there they put him in the car and told me to find a way home. The cop called me days later and I found out the drove him home while I had to find my own way without a phone or any communication point, then he told me I couldn’t press charges because “nothing was gonna happen” I don’t know why they want prison population down so badly but that’s the main reason
We will keep tying to pretend we are fixing criminals while putting them back into our communities and causing more harm..... Another stabbing from a guy on bail ffs...
I feel like the only crime they've 'cracked down on' was when the gangs were making kids ram raid shops :/ now a kid can actually get tried for it! Lovely. The judge literally said "This man sliced an innocent man in chunks, but he did it Rorouni Kenshin style with the blunt side of the blade so let's let him off easy"
Interesting fact my mom told me, in some places here in the US you can't just have a baseball bat in your car, but if you also keep a baseball in there too then you can claim to an officer that it is 'sports equipment' because for some reason you'd otherwise be in trouble for it. It was the weirdest thing I'd heard considering, you know, a baseball bat isn't a sword or a gun. Of course there can still be terrible injuries from a heavy maple wood bat, just thought that was weird she needs a ball sitting in her backseat to not get in trouble for a baseball bat.
It basically comes down to “intent”. If you don’t have the ball, it could be construed that you intend to hurt someone with it, making it a weapon instead of sporting goods.
I have jewelry made of bullet casings that's fine and legal to wear while driving my car through Massachusetts. If those empty casings were unaltered and in my glovebox, I could go to jail.
And yet when the police display harmful intent and turn off their body cams nothing happens. Innocent civilians are held to a higher standard and are subject to more punishment for existing than 'law enforcement' is for trying to ruin lives
If remorse was such a big factor in sentences then there would be MANY more stories like this. You don’t just do this and say “im sorry” this is crazy even considering NZ laws.
I mean they are starting to appear, that dude who cut someones finger off when he broke into the house for example as well as a lot of dairy owners. I do expect it to increase unless something changes significantly after the election.
Even if it was accidental considering the scabbard thing, the fact remains that he did this over almost nothing, and instead of providing first aid or calling for help immediately, he left the scene from the sound of things
The fact he left the scene is all the evidence I need to know that the guy is scum despite the sheath thing. It would be immediately obvious if you wounded someone, let alone sliced them grievously... Leaving the scene after you did something so "unintentional" and bad is ridiculous. That judge is insane.

As someone who lived in NZ for 16 years, this sounds about right. In my experience, New Zealand seems so safe most of the time that when something like this does happen, they justice system doesn't really know what to do unless there are actually fatalities.

Hey Charles I live in NZ and this pissed me off so much, the media also barely covered it besides I think one outlet.

It basically comes down to “intent”. If you don’t have the ball, it could be construed that you intend to hurt someone with it, making it a weapon instead of sporting goods.

"Intent to injure" if that judge were the one attacked it wouldnt be so light
I guess the judge thinks nearly blatantly murdering someone in front of his family is not a big deal. 💀
Yeah that's the point of the video
The same should be done to the judge and his family
Sure totally a normal reaction, every time I get annoyed with a dog walker, I am happy to have Zoro's swords with me to carve stuff up.
Dude was such a master samurai even the judge was afraid to put him in prison
“My sword is a tool of justice”
Thank you Charlie for more Road Rage Samurai News!
More? There is the first video.

I'm honestly surprised that there aren't more cases of vigilantism with how useless the justice system has become
we need to become the fat man... the dark knight
@@_Listen_to_Solar_Kama_Sutrathe fat man?
I mean they are starting to appear, that dude who cut someones finger off when he broke into the house for example as well as a lot of dairy owners. I do expect it to increase unless something changes significantly after the election.
I mean vigilantes might get more severe punishment than the actual criminals they’re after.
In California they would give you life if you helped someone from getting killed or robbed
Even if it was accidental considering the scabbard thing, the fact remains that he did this over almost nothing, and instead of providing first aid or calling for help immediately, he left the scene from the sound of things
Fourth form: don’t touch my Tesla
I cannot believe after GOING BACK TO FINISH THE JOB, the court somehow did not give this guy an attempted murder charge.
The fact he left the scene is all the evidence I need to know that the guy is scum despite the sheath thing. It would be immediately obvious if you wounded someone, let alone sliced them grievously... Leaving the scene after you did something so "unintentional" and bad is ridiculous. That judge is insane.
Bot comment-🤖
Currently recovering from eye surgery. Can't really see much, but just listening to Charlie is enough to make me feel a little better, at least. Thanks for making these videos!
Feel better!
Yet you were able to wright this comment without any mistakes?
@@Voidapparatei'm pretty sure there's a way to help out people with a issue with eye surgery, they can't see well but that doesn't mean that'll stop them to write well.
@@Voidapparatenot that surprising, i’m writing this with my eyes closed, i just memorized the keyboard and have auto correct. a lot of people have the keyboard memorized
@@Voidapparate Maybe that's because I focused to actually see the keyboard. Everything was blurry, and I can still typing using one of my eyes that's less blurrier. Besides, there's no reason for me to gain clout on a video of a youtuber I enjoy. Even still typing this comment is tough, and considering I'm a perfectionist a lot of times, that's why it's seems fine--I'm trying to write correctly.
So... if 10 months of house arrest is all you get for permanently disabling and disfiguring a man with a sword, what is to stop this guy's family from finding him and doing the same to him?
as a new zealand resident i can confirm that leaving the house puts you at risk of being carved up by a kiwi samurai.
@@pbpb22319K WTF?!!
@@pbpb22319K yuup real shit my homie that works in a dairy got ramraided a few months ago 💀
@@pbpb22319K yeah cuzz
I like to imagine the absolute shock when his anime protagonist fantasy crumbled all around him.
I don't know much about New Zealand but it's insane this guy had a sword with him as if it was a self defence weapon
I know people that drive around with hammers and massive sticks and shit like that it's not that rare. Lot of farmers here too outside of places like Wellington and Auckland so very likely got a knife too at the very least. Hell, my cousin had a metal samurai sword that he kept in his car (it broke though) We don't have really have guns and the possibility of getting jumped is always there so
probs watched too many movies or whatever
As someone who lives in South London, this is what it’s like everyday
As a New Zealander, I can say that this is very normal

Everyone in the comments section lives in New Zealand apparently
@@kingzingo1784 mainly cause almost every New Zealand viewer comments specifically on this video like me, but I assume some are lies idk
Walking in and seeing my dad in a pool of blood has stained my mind till death. Still alive though 💪✝️
I'm from New Zealand and yes we do have our moments there Charlie love your channel by the way
Judge really asked “what do you think your punishment should be” and just gave it to him
