Tony was well known and pretty harmless considering his katana. He never drew it unless he felt his life or the life of others was being threatened. He was a huge dude too, so seemed pretty imposing. I didn't know him well or even at all, but I passed him on the street multiple times. I heard people saying that he had a "mental illness" at the time and thinking back about his actions and demeanor, maybe he was on the autism spectrum. I never knew what happened to him after the standoff, but if he is in fact still alive, I'd consider that a miracle considering the way that the police treat homeless people, let alone defensively armed homeless people. It basically exploded his testicle. And of course the cops got off scott free.
      (In case anyone mentions it, im not referring to the actual riots. There are long montages of cops using absurd force on innocent bystanders in areas that had no rioting whatsoever. The reason i specify is because the news didnt give much coverage to that part of the news at all and if you weren't paying close attention at the time you would have missed it. They were doing crazy shit like shooting rubber bullets at people in their windows and on their balconies, pushing down (and subsequently murdering) old people, and apparently even shooting men in the testicles.

      Hey, it is literally the only rule in a sword fight, schizophrenia is a scary because those people can become an entirely unique personality and this guy may have deadass turned into a samurai for 11 plus hours that had real military level understanding of sword fights which is hilarious, which would explain why he acted like an actual rock when they shot him with the hose which is hilarious, and when he got hit with the sandbags he acted like it was arrows or something which was hilarious because he looks like a cave man vs a gun, he had no clue what was hitting him, and you guessed it, this made everything quite laughably hilarious indeed.

And all he did was strolling around with a sword minding his own business, while the cops totally over-reacted

    • @dragondrakage2402
      @dragondrakage2402 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not really. While I don't think the off duty cop should've tailed him for however long he did to arouse suspicion to the samurai, the police did do their job. Guy had a weapon out, tho he didn't make any moves it's still a weapon being wielded in public. They can't just go away without resolving the situation.

    • @gd7663
      @gd7663 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      @@dragondrakage2402 From what you can see in the video, he looks like hes wearing the scabbard on his back, so I was thinking the sword was sheated until he noticed the the first officer stalking him. Feel free to correct me on that if im wrong. But then his mental problems just surfaced and he draw the sword reacting to a man he did not know and who was following him. Of course police had to do their job at this point, for that man's safety and the public. Im just trying to see from that man's perspective for a moment. Who knows if he was carrying the sword to show a friend or something like that? I know someone who did exactly this, because she came to our workplace with her sword strapped to her back to show me. Maybe he did not have any ill intent at all and was just triggered by the whole situation. That must have been stressful for him, probably enough for hallucinations and stuff like that. Ofc I dont know this at all, maybe he was out for trouble that day after all and the first officer was justified to follow him but I think just his look, the way hes dressed had a big impact combined with the presence of a katana. It would be nice to have more information about his story.

    The "textbook" remark might be referring to how ESU units in Japan (called Kidoutai) use a mancatcher tool called a Sasumata, in a similar way to the way the ladder was used here, in conjunction with riot shields to pin violent suspects. It's a fairly common training scenario there for dealing with knife attackers and so on, so it's possible (given the thematic appropriateness regarding the samurai here) that someone on the Seattle department could have seen it in an informational video or something and gotten the idea off of that.

    • @fcantil

Although on a somewhat-related note, there's one department in California that experiment(ed?) with utilizing Kobans - the little mini-stations dotted throughout Japan to allow for community presence and a place to get directions or give walk-up reports and lost-and-found etc
