As a half black Chicagoan, this has been our hallmark horror story ever since the original movie came out. Till this day I don't know a single person that will say Candyman 5 times in front of a mirror in real life. We ain't gonna take the risk, and we want no parts of it lol. Back during the original movie in 1992 Cabrini Green used to have those big, high-rise project buildings, now it's just a series of smaller buildings like you see in the film and that area is surrounded by much nicer and more modern "gentrified" properties, odd that Cabrini Green is still there at all, honestly.

@@kevinyonan2147 When people say “gentrified” they’re referring to the neighborhood being revamped, rebuilt, built up, catering to wealthier people, even if these “wealthier people” are just simply someone with a job and good credit. Actually has nothing to do with white people considering plenty of people of all ethnicities thrive in these “gentrified” places, including that surrounding what’s left of Cabrini Green. Gentrifying has a habit of making an area safer to live and navigate in. There aren’t drug dealers and gang bangers at every corner, the buildings are well kept, the roads and sidewalks are well kept, the people are friendlier because they work a normal job that they probably get paid a lot at. That’s a gentrified neighborhood, it’s not always made up of only white people.

Helen for sure would’ve came across Sherman’s story when she was conducting research for her thesis. You mean to tell me NO-ONE mentioned Sherman to her? It happened in the 70s… The original takes place in the 90s. They should’ve kept Daniel as the main Candyman and introduced Helen as a vengeful spirit as well.

In the original Candyman you see him drop a liquid (presumably blood) in baby Anthony’s mouth. This would then connect Anthony to Candyman, and upon his transformation after being stung allows him to become a vessel for the original Candyman to come back. Thus coming full circle.

Gawd this movie was so promising but Hollywood needs to stop thinking the art world needs to be filmed. I love contemporary art and I am NEVER interested in whatever plot they come up with. The interesting stuff about art is all internal, both in the artist and the viewer. The external stuff is boring, or overly evil and it's almost all pretentious AF. And this movie had loads and loads of all of this!
