I’m actually impressed the film makers got that right.
When you are rattling/clicking from heroin your sense of smell goes into overdrive + the most tiny scents can make you gag/vomit etc...

this seems like a thing that's relatively commonly known, is it? like, should it be the kind of thing Olivia should have known especially given that they'd "already tried this last summer"? I feel like bringing her to what is CLEARLY a broken down, dirty A.F cabin out in the woods is just the WORST idea ever **just** going off the smell thing.

@@TjPhysicist you'd be amazed by how many professionals that work in heakthcare clinics don't even know about withdrawal symptoms. Our system is terrible and so is our "general education". For cited examples look at previously written comments making blanket moral judgements about users.
The part where she sits out in the rain while withdrawing actually makes sense to me. Withdrawals are absolutely painful to go through, to the point where you're desperate enough to use other stimuli as a distraction (like sitting out in pouring rain). I used to sit in the shower for hours while going through withdrawals, because the feeling of the water all over my body distracted me.
I agree! anything to take away the current pain. i’ve never experience extreme withdrawal but I thought sinning this part wasn’t necessary as it actually is a form of self help.

Gotta admit, I'm a little disappointed not 1 sin was removed. This wasn't a perfect movie by any means, but it was exactly what I wanted for a 21st century Evil Dead movie.

Agreed. It was suspenseful in all the right ways, while being gracious with the script and balancing it out with the gore and blood. Not a perfect movie, but it was executed well enough to get a 9/10 from me.
The line “She just got her arm cut off… does that sound fine to you?” Is a reference to Evil Dead 2, when Ash’s reflection attacks him and asks “You just chopped up your girlfriend… does that sound FINE to you?!”
14:27 also, as a cool detail, the first letter of the main characters actually spells out "DEMON"

I saw this movie in theaters 10 years ago and I've been in love since. One of my go to movies when I have a girl come over and she wants to watch a scary movie 😂💯
Honestly, I don’t think it could have been done any better. It was genuinely scary and had a deep respect for the source material. It’s one of the few remakes I truly love.

I saw Evil Dead Rise yesterday and it was terrifying! Much scarier and more intense than the 2013 film, in my opinion. Highly recommend you guys go see it!

My siblings had me watch Nightmare on Elm Street (og) age 4. It's crazy I've seen more horror by age 10 than most adults. Yeah, it fucked me up. Movies are biographies to young minds 😐

This film isn't perfect, but I feel like it's overlooked far more often than it deserves.
Also it took me _ages_ to realise that you guys had changed the colour grading at the end to get around TH-cam censorship and that my eyes hadn't suddenly gone kaput 😅

I'm a big fan of the original, but I loved this one, too. I couldn't find anyone to go with me, so my partner, who's NOT a horror fan, offered to go. I happily invited her along, forgetting all about the tree-raping-girl scene. When said girl ran out into the woods, I remembered what was going to happen and am thinking, "Oh, shit." You wouldn't think a scene about a tree violating a woman was something you could up the ante on, but, well, they managed to do it. I felt my partner turn and give me 'that' look. I knew then I was gonna be stuck with a month of Jane Eyre movies as penance.
You could have just said "I didn't know that was going to happen! It's not a shot-for-shot remake!"

The first Evil Dead was basically a warmup for Evil Dead 2.

I'm in the same boat and I've started just going to the theater alone, it's so much easier than trying to drag any of my horror-hating family and friends with me and then hearing all about it after lmao

Definitely one of my favorite horror movies! Loved this remake! I loved the original series also!
This was Fede Álvarez's FIRST feature film and it is one of the BEST remakes especially when the original was so good!
Fun fact: Fede Álvarez's next movie is a follow-up on ALIEN Franchise, can't wait see what's next!

When i was younger i found this movie and thought it was the original. I bought it and took it home, watched it and was utterly traumatized. Great remake!

This is one where I liked the theatrical release but prefer the unrated version. Not only for the added carnage but also plot points that make the story more coherent, such as showing David possessed right before the house explodes.

The fifth soul was David (assuming Mia was the first, or the girl from the beginning) ... just before the house blows up you see his eyes change.
They might have used the R-rated cut. In that version we don't see David show his "possessed" eyes. In the Unrated version we see he gets possessed before "kaboom".
The fifth soul was of grandpa, the dog, assuming dogs have souls.
Mia can't count because she lived.

Evil dead 2013 is my favorite movie of all time ive watched it repeatedly because ive never seen any horror movie like it. I love blood and gore and this movie delivers. Im so happy you guys chose to do this movie ive been waiting years for you guys to release this and it was good.

I'm a fan of the og movie (and the hilarious sequels lol) and this really feels like a good remake! Sure, not everything can be copied perfectly, but I think it catched the essence

@14:36 The first girl killed her mother which is Soul #1, then Olivia, Eric, Natalie, and David. . You could say Mia had her soul consumed and is now soulless after being revived. Or you could probably also claim the first girl wasn't cleansed by fire as she was killed by shotgun blast not burning. There's an abundance of souls if you count them and the dog.

I will say one thing here, cuz I know it’s satire and a joke, but it’s a complaint I have seen a lot about Evil Dead. The Deadites are seen throwing people around, cutting them up with much of it being non-lethal, dragging out kills. The reason for this is because the deadites in Evil Dead are what people call “Process Killers.” The alternative being a “Product Killer” meaning they just want a body count. The deadites want to kill yes, but their nature of killing revolves around the process of the kill. It’s been stated many times that, while killing is their end goal, what they thrive on and want to cause is raw chaos and fear. They love that shit, making their victims shit themselves with terror and lose all hope before they kill them. They aren’t like a Slasher, like Jason or Myers or Chucky, who are product killers and just wanna drop you. They relish in all the things they can do to you before you give out.
It’s sad that these days we have to qualify which reboot of a movie it is these days with the year (2013)

I saw this movie with a friend in the theater who has never seen the original movies but I had and apparently so had the entire rest of the audience. When people started laughing at the arm cutting off scene, my friend looked at me horrified asking why everyone was laughing. I told her after the movie and tried to explain how Evil Dead 2 was more of a comedy parody and she just couldn't understand how that scene could possibly be funny. I tried to show her the originals so many times promising her that Army of Darkness was worth it but she still to this day refuses to watch any of them because this particular remake/reboot traumatized her so much. Scream is about as far as she can delve into the horror franchise.
