When adding the heat sink to the ssd did you remove the thermal pad that’s between the motherboard and ssd from alienware originally?

Some more information, it has a 3.5" and a 2.5 bay. So, you can have up to 4(5) drives: 2 x M.2 NVME, 1 x 2.5 Drive, and 1 x 3.5 Drive (2 x 2.5 drives if you get one of the 3.5 to 2.5 adaptors). The Motherboard has 3 SATA connectors. Only the 3.5 bay has a SATA Data cable. The 3.5 bay has 2 SATA Power plugs and the 2.5 has 1 SATA plug for 3 total. So, I am using 2 of the SATA Powers for the ARGB controllers and 1 for a 6TB HDD I bought separately. I also have a 512 GB OS and 2TB Game NVME for a total of 3 drives. Like I said in the video, the Motherboard RGB headers are not standard, so you will need 3rd party Controller if you want to add RGB to other stuff like I did. I doubt regular RGB RAM would work. I'm pretty sure those stick of RAM require Motherboard support via software. The kit I bought has a separate wire that requires an RGB controller.
I added Trident Z DDR5 RGB ram and it works with the Trident software to control it. What software did you use to control the RGB NVME heatsink?

I replaced all mine with Noctua’s *( I had 2 different brands and amperage’s on the oem fans one was 1.20A the others were 1.02A it thinks Noctua’s are Alienware’s now that’s it’s recognized the fans duty cycle )* got an A12x25 on my rad and 3 1700rpm NF P12 Redux’s as case fans I got an error going into command center that said I wouldn’t be able to control my fans, as soon as clicked it off I had full control of my fans just like they were the OEM ones NP’s since no errors ever again 14C *( 50 C now was 64 before )* cooler while gaming on the CPU and 4C *( was also 64C before now 60C playing ACC at 1440p High Settings )* cooled on the GPU, I also re-pasted my CPU with Kingpin KPX Thermal Nano Grease, Dell must have been out of thermal paste when they built my R14 and used toothpaste instead when I got it, it idled at 50C and a few mins into gaming I would be 80C+, now I idle at 30C, plus that RGB fan was a giant distraction while trying to sim race and imo it looks better without that ugly RGB fan they should leave that black sticker off it makes the fan look off balance or like it’s wobbling, wish it was easier to get a heat sink on the m.2 in the R14 there’s a capacitor right against it but I think I have the answer without damaging my board, and if your looking for something good to replace thermal pads with K5 Pro is the way to go it’s way better than thermal pads and according to the company the lifespan is *almost* *infinite* there exact words

Nice video! It would be greater that there will be another video which shows all details about how to upgrade those RGB rams and fans step by step (how to connect different parts, cable management and so on) for those people who are not DIY-professional, lol
Truth of the matter is I'm not a TH-cam professional and just using my cell camera. Hence the poor camera quality. There are plenty of ARGA how-to videos out there and even people showing assembly of the headspreaders that are much better-quality videos then mine. I'm just trying to show what's possible in my spare time.
That being said, once I get the $50 ARGB controller in, I do plan on doing another video. I will be replacing the thermal Paste as well at that time. Again, video quality will not be great. I don't have professional cameras and tripods, etc.

@@joeymao5483 If you are buying the cheap hardware switch. You need at least 2, or 1 for each color channel you want. I ordered the software one, but DHL screwed up the delivery, so had to get a refund and order a replacement. So, I am still waiting for the digital/software 1 to show up.
@@keithvsmith Sorry, I am kind of newbie in DIY. Why do we need 2 hardware controllers instead of 3? We have two RAM sticks and one SSD, does it mean we need 3 controllers?
Good video. Dell made a lot of noise about better thermals but those 2 fans at the front not being cantered is most odd. There must be a reason there pushed to one side but i do not know what. I like my R13 but the fans are the first thing I am replacing. Way to noisy for a top end rig.
It's most likely the propriety Motherboard design, where the front IO is part of the board. That and those slide in cages limit how deep into the case they could go.
Really nice video. I never ever thought about using a heatsink for the RAM. How do those fans perform compared to the stock fans when it comes to RPMs?
Not sure about specific RPMs, but it is just a slight bit quieter, and temps stayed about the same. I mainly replaced the fans because that stock RGB fan looked cheap and had bad lighting. There are probably better fans out there. I didn't do much research. Just bought the first thing I found that I liked and wasn't too expansive.
Honestly, if I were recommending to anyone else. I'd say only replace the 1 RGB fan unless you really want to dig into performance and benchmarking. The top fan you can't see, the front fans are off centered, so no point replacing those with RGB IMHO. I was doing mainly for the visuals and if I this going in, I would have just bought the one fan and save myself the money. I think Alienware even knew that, because the front fans have RGB headers, but they aren't used, so someone at Alienware changed their mine at some point.

@@TZILLA. Short answer is, yes, you can upgrade the RAM. The system has 4 RAM slots and the 16 GB kit you have should be 2 8 sticks. So, you can buy another 2 8 GB sticks. I would check the stick on the RAM for the speed it's rated at and try to find the same RAM to try to ensure compatibility between the sticks. You do run a chance that the new stick may be incompatible with the current sticks and the system may not boot. If that happens, remove them and return them for a different set.

I didn't do any benchmarks. I have a 12900K, 32 GB RAM, and 3080. I did it mainly for visuals.

Hello I’ve been wondering i ordered the r13 with 16 gb of ram. It finally arrived but now im wondering if I can upgrade it to 32 Gb it would be nice if I had an answer to this problem

I have heard a few people say RGB RAM will work, but you need the software to control it, Check the comments in my videos. Someone said they did it. As for an AIO, yes it can be swapped on. The rear one is on a bracket and appears to be standard 120 fan spacing, the 2 front fans can be removed and there's screw holes for a 240 radiator up front even.
How are you doing this my motherboard 7 pins (4 top row, 3 bottom row). I have not seen any RGB fans with this connector and I can't find any adapters for this> please guide
You need a separate controller. If depends on what fans you got and what they use. My fans are ARGB and have the 4-pin connector with only 3 pins. All of the stuff I ordered is links in one of my videos.

The RAM "can be" replaced. I have heard of others doing it. That being said, I cannot say whether or not that specific set of RAM will work and IMO, 5600 is probably overkill. This motherboard will probably never let you get the RAM to those speeds. IMO, it's just not worth the cost UNLESS you are upgrading capacity like going from 8GB to 16GB or something like that, or just really want RGB RAM.

If you mean the original fan, I don't know. I no longer have the system. There are many videos of various fan that will work with a Dell Alienware, just search for them.
Is this fan better than the original? Can it be installed on the Aurora R12?
If I was you would try to replace that ridiculous 120mm aio with something bigger. This is beast of a cpu and it produces tonnes of heat. 240mm is the bare minimum to keep it away from throttling
While I agree, a 240 would be better, mounting one in this case would require drilling and modding the case. The front 2 fans are in cages. There's no way to mount a 240 upfront.
@@keithvsmith well then the best thing to do is buy some budget case with good airflow like lian li LAN cool 215 and transplant all the "organs" from aura to the new case and give the cpu proper cooling
@@panczenPL You would need to replace the motherboard and power supply too. They are not standard.
@@keithvsmith in theory yes but there is no need to raise the costs any further. I think that thin drill bit and accurate eye could do the job 😉
@@panczenPL Well, that's assuming there is metal in the case where you'd need to drill the holes for the fan. The front of the case has hexagon holes down the entire surface. Either way, in order to use a 240 AIO, you need to either mod the case or replace Case/MB/PS. I personally don't have any problems with temps. So, at this time I am leaving it be. If problems arise, I will act accordingly.
So I am thinking of getting a Corsair LL120 for my R13, but I see they only have a 4-pin connector, but the stock fan has a 4-pin and a 7-pin. Why are there 2 connectors? Will the 4-pin only Corsair work? How did you get the RGB on Cooler Master to work?
The Cooler Master fans I am using are ARGB. I got a Razer ARGB controller to control them. My fans have a 4 pin Fan connector that controls the fan speed and a 3 pin ARGB header for control of the ARGB. The stock fans use a proprietary RGB format. Those LL120 fans appears to be 12 Volt RGB. I see they have 2 4 pin connectors, 1 for fan control and 1 for the RGB. So, you'll need to find a proper 12 Volt RGB controller to control the RGB LEDs or else they will not light up.
Looks like the 3 pack of LL120 comes with a controller.

NOTE: That controller comes with a USB Cable that requires a 9 Pin USB 2.0 Header. The R13 motherboard does not have any USB 2.0 headers on it. So, you will need to buy a regular USB cabled to pass out the back of the case and plug into a USB port.
So you are recommending to get the iCue lighting node as the best option? Or what do u think will be best for the Corsairs? I think I can get a USB 2.0 through the back
@@mpconstruction989 Yes, if you are going with the LL120 fan, then I suggest the iCue. Whenever buying RGB components, you want to make sure what kind of RGB they are. All of the stuff I bought used the 3 PIN 5 Volt ARGB standard. The LL120 appears to be 4 pin RGB 12 Volt and they are NOT compatible with each other. Using the wrong kind of controller can damage the hardware.

@@vinoth_k There is a total of 3 SATA power connectors. 2 up top with the 3.5 HDD bay. Even if you have a 3.5 HDD, it should still have a free power connector there. The 3rd one is at the bottom of the case, with the 2.5" bay. One of my videos show them better. Just check the other videos.

I bought the same RAM cooler, but it didn't work on me.....
The RAM stick is too tall, but it still works. Just make sure you use the included foam on the back side where there are no RAM chips on the PCB. Yeah, a littl green PCB shows out the bottom, but once installed, you don't see it.
@@keithvsmith I meant it didn't light up. So, I connect the RGB RAM cooler to the ARGB controller, then connect the controller to SATA power cable right?

@@RyanYu No problem, yeah, if you check my description. There's a link for an $8 ARGB controller. You control the LEDs with the buttons on the controller. Another, more expensive option, $50, is the Cooler Master 4 channel controller that is controlled through software. It has a MicroUSB you connect to computer for the software, SATA Power to power it, and 4 separate channels that can be set independent of each other.

Hi, i got a R13 also, thinking of changing the fans. Is the system more quiet now and is the cooling still ok? I know the ones inside are server fans with 3K rpm or even 4K.
These fans I choose are about the same for sound and temps. I saw a few videos of people using Noctua fans and those ones I believe help with sound, but no RGB. Just search TH-cam, there's a guy who put Noctua fans in his.
I ordered Noctua 120 Chromax Black fans for mine. Swapping out the 2 front and 1 top when my R13 gets here Thursday. I was watching a video and it dropped temps by about 10c and the noise at full load dropped from 64dba to 51dba
@@AlyxSharkBite-2000 I was just watching a video on the Phanteks T30. I think I may try those for the case fans. They are 30mm instead of 25mm and I noticed there's a gap between the fans and the case from how they are mounted to cages. That extra 5 mm should fill that gap in and block air from escaping back into the case around the back side of the fan. That, and they are beating the Noctuas in Thermals.

@@keithvsmith LUCKY you man, I tried corsair and it gave me error every time I start up, so I ended up just replaced the non RGB ones...
@@RyanYu Yeah, from what I get, probably depends on the fan. I'll have to look through the Bios, there should be an option to disable the alarm even if it throws the error. Even it you get the error, should be a way to bypass it. Must bios allows you to press F1 to bypass.
