My hubby got a colostomy 2 years ago. It takes a while to adjust to, but his life is so much better now! By the 6 month mark you will be surprised at how fast you can change your bag, etc. If yours is temporary that’s great, his is for life, but we don’t mind because he is alive and doing well :) Best of luck on your journey and here’s to no more pain!

I’m glad your husband has adjusted well to his colostomy but actually an ileostomy is quite different from a colostomy with different issues than a colostomy.

My Mom has suffered with extreme Crohns for almost 50 years now. Her case is so severe, her doctor carries her chart around with him so he can refer to it when issues arise with other patients. She refuses to get a bag, but says she would rather die before getting one. I don’t understand this! It would make her life sooo much easier. Instead, her life is completely ruled by Crohns; she can’t travel more than 20 minutes anywhere and it hindered her from really having a life. It breaks my heart to see her pretty much house-ridden. I commend you for you strong will! Wishing you only the best! God bless! ❤️

@@mandatereporter7928 with crohns you often don’t have complete control over your bowels and you suddenly have to go to the bathroom without warning. So if you are traveling, it is a nightmare at times if you don’t have a bathroom available immediately! Hope this helps!

Hey there. I’ve had my illiostomy since I was 13. It was horrifying at the time. No one talked about it in those days including my family. Over time I realized it saved my life. As a side note it never ever affected any of my intimate relationships which was my biggest fear. Crohns sucks and since my surgery I’ve had far fewer relapses. Good luck and health to you.❤️🙏🏻
I have a friend who has crohns and she had surgery about a year ago. Now she works as a flight attendant. Its a trial but I am happy to see her working a busy and fulfilling job. I dont have crohns but I have been under general anesthesia and you do get very sleepy after. Our bodies need rest after any surgery and I slept a lot to for the first two days.
Been there done that, it was like going down memory lane. I did have cancer but it was life changing. I was 66 years old, so to have this at such a young age must have been terrible for you. It has been almost 6 years and have adjusted well. You will get better every day. Eat well and exercise. Kudos to you and others that have gone through this!

A quick tip; if you can, shave underneath the wafer. It makes bag changes go sooooo much more smoothly! It also sticks better to the skin.

My mom passed away with this surgery, she was already septic and went into shock October 10th made 2 yrs 😢 I’m glad your making awareness of this situation, praying for you ❤

What were her symptoms?
@@sl4983 a sharp pain in her side/ almost like in her chest she always said she couldn’t tell but it was so intense she passed out more than once, she had her first chemo treatment and couldn’t seem to “use the bathroom “ (#2)” she kept saying she hardly could go after about 3 weeks after her first chemo treatment she was “burning” she said it felt like fire coming out and we STILL couldn’t get her to go to the hospital finally I got in touch with her doctor and they told her to go to the emergency room and about two hours after doing that, or they rushed her into emergency surgery to get the colostomy bag because her intestines had ruptured, in about three hours after surgery she went into shock and died 10/10/2020 R.I.P Therese Winders/Roland I miss you mom!! Don’t play with your health because my mother’s death could have easily been prevented, but she didn’t get seen until she was already septic 🥹😭💔

I’m so glad I was able to reverse my ostomy. There’s no way I could have lived with one. My body was allergic to the adhesive of the barrier. It was so raw and oozed so much that nothing would stick. No amount of crusting powder, liquid tape, tagederm would make a difference. I do miss the aspect of not having to worry about needing a toilet right away to go #2.
I'm 17 years post surgery. My surgeon told me before my surgery that I would feel like I'd been run over by a truck for about a month and then I would gradually feel more comfortable. That was scary but really helpful because it is the most painful thing and it feels like it's going on forever. He also said he thinks it's the worst surgery to have but with the best outcome and that has been true for me. Mine wasn't reversible but the difference it makes every day is immeasurable. Wishing you well with your recovery and your future.

You dont have to feel bad for being EMOTIONAL. YOU WENT throught something painful, u went throught a surgery. That's not something easy. Health is one of the greatest blessing we so often take for granted. A simple cold that throw us to bed make us feel crappy, so imagine ur situation. Lets not romanticize being wonderwoman or superman and being affected by our illness because, the sweet true is that we do hurt, we feel crappy there are days where all the world seems to crush downs and then there are days where u wake just more hopeful.

I had an ileostomy one year ago and I have Crohn's also it has gave me back my life having the ileostomy I was so sick it is so worth it

I too follow Maggie since she is an RN.
Often things don't fit or go south in waves.
The one breaking down manufacturers was great and they responded in chat immediately with a lot of help after watching her video.
To much info is never good but I've become my own advocate now.
I hope you didn't experience infection or failure in sutures on your next vlog.

Actually less trauma to your intestines now after this surgery- say after 1 week. This is because all your inflammation will really start to go down. It's a great thing you did being brave enough to get this surgery. You are going to do fine!

I’ve had UC for 15 years and have went through same and then I was replumbed! Very lucky…..if it hadn’t happened I would have been dead in 6 months. The anesthesia made me have delirium and 1st surgery was 10 days in hospital 2nd 15 days plus an infection. Good luck….it gets better but I’m 56 so it did a number on my body since I had it for 15 years……. My husband changed my bags thank God……Love to you and the best of luck……❤❤❤

Hi hun, I too have an illestomy. I have mine for different reasons, but it took countless surgeries just 13 surgeries alone since 2017 not to mention the many many surgeries before that. My surgeries were for different reasons so do think the same will happen to you, it won't! BUT....finally all is well.
Just know you will have questions even years after if you still have your illestomy and that's Ok! Don't ever be afraid to call your ostomy nurse for whatever. I called mine just because the color of my poo looked weird. Lol
I'm going to go check out your video where you say things went South. Oh have I been there many times..lol One of my issues was obstructions. On a good note, I've not had another surgery now in over 1 1/2 uears..and I celebrate! Ok darlin, I will go see how your doing now and to subscribe:) You got this!

I hope you are feeling better. It is almost December now. I got the Crohn’s diagnosis at the age of 19. I do not have a bag, but plenty accidents (😢😅) and am taking a lot of Imodium. That helps me. I am in a months time turning 61 years old. So this has followed me throughout my life. I have a lot of joint pains and inflammation throughout my body. Also often on my eyes.

I had a colostomy as a newborn and had it reversed at age 1. Even at 39 I can feel food passing across scarred areas. Might need to have it done again, and honestly it would be a relief
I hope that you can get relief soon!! I suffered with feeling good pass through scarred tissue for years and it’s painful!
I've recently gone back to a look illiostomy as my j pouch (made out of my small intestine) decided not to work mid sept 22. After 6 wks of in and out of hospital decided to have a no to go back to a bag after wks of pain and couldn't do any thing. I felt scared like u b4 surgery but 6hrs after surgery I felt amazing and less pain then I'd had. Hope all keeps continuing to go well. X

Relating what you are going through as my daughter also have Crohns and was operated 10years ago. She also experienced the third day blues after her op. Apparently it happens to most people after an op. My daughter's Crohns is active and controlled by a weekly injection. I wish it could just go away. But if only our dreams came true. Good luck with your recovery and health.
Mine is controlled by an injection every 8 weeks and I think it is finally working!
Those were the hardest days of my life. My skin was always irritated, pain, hernia. But I was always bleeding and getting transfusions every other month. Fortunately I was able to have a stoma reversal. Now I just deal with the hernia.

I got my colostomy bag removed at the end of July, I had it for 3 months. It was so crazy, I was in the hospital a week and went home with home health helping me. I'll be following along to see how you do .

I am glad you are doing this,as it may give your guts a chance to settle down. I have collagenase colitis, it is in the same family of diseases but well known. Then came RA and I am on pain meds so less discomfort. I am also on actemra so that maybe helping also.

Have Crohn’s. Took Humira for 10 years. Controlled symptoms well. Unfortunately I got Lymphoma from taking it. Chemo got me into remission

I had my surgery 15 years ago. I lost all of my colon and rectum plus about 6 inches of my small intestine. I spent 4 days in ICU then another 3 weeks in the hospital due to complications like an Ilius and sepsis. I've had several revisions due to extensive erosion of my small intestine which I only have 2 feel left. I've lost 300 lbs from 420 to 120. I won't detail everything but I'm doing better currently. I take each day at it comes and try to stay positive.

Yo girl! I've had my ileostomy bag for... 3 years now?!? I am a 26 year old gal & I wanna give you some life saving tips!!!!!!!!!! When you change your bag do it in the morning before you ate so you aren't squirting everywhere from your ostomy! Then while you change it I would honestly suggest changing it while sitting on the toilet cuz it might leak and I have made a mess everywhere before I knew this tip. Then finally I don't put those weird sticky donut things under my ileostomy sticker, cuz it makes it leak even more and it's a pain to take off anyways. So ya best of luck with everything! Enjoy the fact that you can eat a whole cake without gaining any weight hahahaha! My family is jealous of mine lol!
I was diagnosed with Crohn's in 2018 and had my gallbladder removed and 2 kidney stones so far. And to top it of my teen was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease last year junior arthritis, its rough. I hope your doing ok

please have a look at joe rogan and mikaela peterson podcast on junior arthritis, she reversed it with carnivore diet, she goes into very detail on how she did it and she got it at a young age too
So is the ileostomy bag is temporary or permanent? You mentioned that part of intestine is removed not all so may be its temporary.

I'm approaching two months post op following my laparascopic right hemicolectomy back on 10/20/22 and I'm still having issues mainly with crampiness and primarily liquid stools. I'm suppoised to have my two month followup appointment on december 13th and am considering asking for my surgeon to perform a colostomy or illiostomy if possible because I really don't know how much more of this I can tolerate.
I wish you the best of luck and that things start getting better for you soon! I also think its worth bringing up to your surgeon if you really feel strongly about it! They will know more about it and if it is a good option for you!

I had total colitis for 30 yrs. I thought there was nothing worse - until it turned to cancer.
I had a temporary ileostomy but was lucky to be able to have a J-pouch fashioned internally as Ulcerative colitis only affects the colon.
I do think it's better to have your type of surgery younger if other things aren't working, because quality of life with a stoma is far better than with IBD. It ended my career as a midwife as the frequency just doesn't work when you are in the middle of delivering a baby!

My father had a blockage and he wouldn't wear the bag but regulated his self and then he would wear a patch over the incision.Besf of luck with your journey.

I had the same surgery in 2014 and had my colostomy for only 6 months. It took about a month to get used to it. I had no problem talking with the tube in. It will be over before you know it. I hope your bag is temporary.

May I ask why things took so long if it was an emergency? You said you had to wait in the er, an ambulance, a plane, and had to wait when you got there too?
The first hospital I went to was a really small one that didn’t have any open rooms available in the ER so I had to wait in the waiting room. It was rough
@@Morgan.Memories basically what I mean is why didn't the bigger hospital take you to surgery immediately?
@@dizzypancreaspump oh gotcha! They were running more tests to make sure surgery really was the only/the best option and since the pain meds and antibiotics were helping a little, they put me in the schedule for a few days later! They didn’t feel it was a life or death emergency right then and I’m ok now!

Hope you are feeling better. I lost an organ too- but all is good. You adjust. Be strong. Ileostomy bag is not a big deal. You will get use to it. It's actually great if it makes you feel better. Be grateful you are alive in a time when they have this technology. 100 years ago it would not be good.
I am curious why this happened- where you a vegan, how was your diet? Too much fiber can cause issues for people. Too many lectins, gluten, etc. Plants have natural defense mechanisms as well as pesticides. I wonder if that played a part. I am an omnivore- so I eat some of the right plants- some fiber but also some meat. It is how we were designed to eat.
Thank you so much! I am finally feeling better and i am so grateful for modern medicine and technology that allows me to still be alive! So i was diagnosed with Crohns in may and tried going gluten, dairy, and sugar free for a while. I explain everything in my few videos prior to this one! But essentially there was so much scar tissue built up from over the years that everything was so blocked off. The doctors told me that it had gotten to a point where it didn't matter what i ate, nothing could go through. I am being more conscious of what i am eating now!

You really should read, or better yet, listen to (audible), *The Plant Paradox.* It is not a vegan book. It will explain a lot. Dr. Gundry is a genius- explains how some plants can harm us. I know a ton about nutrition. Google Dr. Gundry Yes No Food List.
I don't consume any sugar and limit even fruit sans some in season org. berries. If needed, some monk fruit sweetener is usually fine (not D-Allulose.) I do not eat/drink any dairy. It has a bad protein in it. No to Gluten, Lectins (in many plants.) A big NO to any and all whole grains (whole grain goodness is a tagline and a scam.) No to peanuts- yes to some Walnuts. My husband gets grossed out by all bodily fluids so he had a hard time at first but he quickly got used to it! He would even help me out with bag changes if I needed it!
Illeostomy is urine removal, colostomy is for your condition!
No. It's various parts of the bowel where the stoma is at.
I know my situation is different when I broke my ankle I didn’t have any family around so I was in hospital all by myself it was horrible .. I hope you are feeling better after a few months

Ok, he has a channel called Vegan Ostomy...I suggest you check him out. He has so so many positive video's that will help you through about any issues you might have. This is what he does, helps! Please take this advise I give you next...Let's talk IBD is her channel I think. I don't recommend this for a few reasons. She isnt so much a helping channel but rather she pretty much talks about and has problems of her own. For illestomy things related, Vegan Ostomy....he doest play dr but he is there to help! Anyway back to lets talk ibd..Well one when I first joined I had so many questions for her, she would never answer any of them nor comment back. I remember leaving her a comment while I was in the hospital, she was no help. She also struggles sadly with issues all the time. My ostomy nurse recommended this Vegan Ostomy guy...he also has a blog etc. People can talk with one another etc. He talks about different ostomy products, rashes and his opinions on about every problem you might have. Also, he will talk to you when you join this one site he has. Ok, so know this....Your going to have tons of people offering you advise. DONT let it overwhelm you, just find say one person like Vegan Ostomy and as far as others, take it all in lightly. It's all going to be Ok!
Hun, I struggled from rashes around my wafer to itching to stool being too thick or thin, it's all normal just don't worry, you will never be alone!
