What's worse, Ford ADM price increases over MSRP or the new car buyers willing to pay them. If consumers didn't give in to these ADM's the dealers would remove them. When I bought my 2019 GT350 the local dealer wanted a $5000 ADM. I walked out and eventually they called me back to see I would take it at MSRP.
Had to take my 20’ GT350 to the dealership for recall service last month and my local dealership in Henderson, NV had a Dark Horse on lot with a sticker price of $87,000. Yes, that’s correct, EIGHTY SEVEN THOUSAND DOLLARS for a 5.0 Mustang. Taxes and fees and you’re paying over $90,000 for a N/A Mustang that’ll get smoked by any sports car in that price range. Its time for the consumers to take control and hit these dealerships where it hurts
Yeah that’s ridiculous! There’s so many better options for $87k and 5.0 mustang is not one of them. You could get Shelby gt350/gt500, C7 Z06, C8, bmw m4 etc. all of these are more special and will be much better than the DH

If you order one, they won't mark it up and they only have a two- three month wait on builds. That being said I still wouldn't order one over a GT premium, to must money even at MSRP which is why I went with the GT.
Couple dealers I’ve spoke to said there would be a mark up as they can still sell it someone who’s willing to pay the mark up. They get limited allocation so they are trying to make as much money with mark ups
You keep saying the DH goes for 60k, but that's only base price, and they all come with lots of options that typically results in the car being priced $68- 90,000. A lot of money! And then dealers want to add markup from $5-15k, in addition to insane administrative fees and dealer installed options. And forget about financing, as interest rates are obscene right now. Fortunately, some dealers are letting them go at MSRP now....
Yeah that’s part of the problem the dealer mark ups and no one has base dark horse in stock. It’s all optioned out one. I have only seen couple ones that are being let go for msrp
Exactly one year later my Dark Horse is still not in. I went to the Lexus dealership and bought a 2022 is 500 F with 8,700 miles on it for $48,000. The Ford dealership can keep it.
Look at that plain dull boring uninspiring interior. With the price they’re asking, the Ford Mustang Darkhorse should have a beautiful interior to match. That’s one of the problems with all of today’s cars manufacturers. They rather invest in technology which some of it isn’t practical or necessary and put horrible plain black interior and expect consumers to be perfectly fine with it. Cars of 1960-70’s, were beautiful inside and outside, with horsepower. The car industry needs to result back to those types of designs, if they want to increase their sales in both cars & truck. Furthermore, stop wasting time and money on electric vehicles, the majority of average Americans simply don’t want them!
It's funny you say that as most manufactures are realizing they went too bullish on EV transition and are scaling it back down and trying to focus ICE cars. I am gladd Ford is atleast offering a V8 option
Got a 2023 Mach 1 and I absolutely love it!!! The Dark Horse doesn’t do anything for me. No aftermarket tuning, the “Camaro-ish” exterior, the lack of toggles and that bolt on big screen tv on the dash….no thank you! Each to their own, but I’m happy with my last production S550 with Mach 1 badging!
Yes the S650 mustang really highlighted how great of a car Mach 1 is considering the price/value and what comes with it. It's better to get the Mach 1 than DH unless someone is set on wanting the iPads lol
I would have liked to have seen some data showing that the Dark Horse isn't selling as anticipated. It is realistic that dealer markups have turned buyers away, those who pay what dealers ask for ruin it for us who want to negotiate price (especially in the used car market).
I haven’t seen a breakdown yet. But I’ll make an updated video. I know dealers can’t keep but it’s also limited allocation compared to regular mustang gt
It's hard to buy this bc it's so expensive. I tried to buy one in January for 50k when they came out but no one had it and I went last week and now it's 65.. this sucks
I was fortunate enough to a get leftover 2022 Mach1 HP fully loaded with every available option except for the car cover for 5k under msrp last February..After all the papers were signed and the Mach was mine I asked my salesman what gives getting the car 5k under ..He told me it was a special order that the buyer decided he wanted to wait for the DH and that was true why most Mach1’s were left sitting…Still can’t believe I got one for the price cause they were marked up as well in ‘21 when they came out
Smart move! Mach 1 with HP is as capable as the DH and given the S650 is just a revised S550 Mustang you got the best of both worlds as far as value and performance are concerned. Enjoy the car!
I got one and it's ridiculous....the MSRP on mine with handling package was 72K..... with the dealer up charges, taxes and everything out the door it came out to 83K....I paid it all in cash, and the dealer was so pissed they didn't wanna sell it to me cuz the like financing and they only had an allotment of 1
Geez that’s expensive for DH. I can think so many cars to be had for this price including the Gt500 but if the car makes you happy then that’s all that matters
You make some real good points. Maybe if it had a Whipple that kind of price would be more attractive. Thanks for bringing me back to reality. I was getting caught up in the hype. I think the dealerships are hurting because folks that want to trade in their current vehicle do not have enough equity in those cars due to the high markup that was charged during the pandemic.
Dark horse is a scam. It is a mustang GT with a bunch of upgraded crap on it that most people don’t need. The best deal on a new Mustang GT is to get a base unit for about $41,000 and put an H pipe, intake, And remove the carbon filters. You’ll be at the same 500 hp on a somewhat lighter vehicle. for a lot less money and a much more streetable sports car.
Straight line yes but it’s a much better track car. However 90% of the buyers won’t push it to that extent and you can probably get pretty close modifying GT suspension closer to DH s
The reason it’s not selling is because it’s priced too high for what you get. It’s still a mustang after all. I sold my 2016 Roush supercharged Mustang GT PP and bought a 2023 Camaro 2SS 1LE last year for 55k and it’s just a better sports car in every way.

8:05 Initially I wanted a loaded DH and fully optioned MSRP was $73k (ouch), then local dealers were adding $10k to that. In my opinion, the 2021-2023 Mach 1 is a much better performing car/value than the Dark Horse, and it's/was cheaper, too. My 2023 Mach 1 is EASILY the best car, and best performing car, I've ever owned (and, it's the TENTH Mustang I've owned in my life!). There seems to me to be no limit to how it sticks to the road in curves. I've taken freeway ramps posted at 35 mph at almost 65 mph, without the car even feeling strained, and that's with all-season tires (a week after I bought it, I replaced the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires with Michelin Pilot Sport All-Season 4 tires, because I live in northeast Ohio, and wanted to be able to drive it when the roads are clean, but it's only 10° or 20° outside - can't do that with summer-only tires). LOVE this car!
Mach 1 is a solid car and it's a much better value than DH. The difference is negligible as far as performance is concerned but the actual price difference is too much. Curious did the PS4S make a huge difference over PSAS? I currently have PSAS for year-round but thinking to get PS4S for summers, just not sure if difference is big enough on the street
@@johnoaklay4694 yeah but for how long? 40k 60k miles? Less? At that power level a regular 5.0 is a good knock event away from a rebuild. That same power level in the DH version would hold up much better over time.
The interior are the exact same cheap materials that I had on my 2017 GT premium that I got brand new for 38k USD, I have had several BMW, Audi and Porsche since then and even an entry car from BMW (M240i previous gen) had better interior, Porsche is on another planet.
Yes you bring up a good point. It starts as $35k eco boost. Before you could get a nicely equipped GT for 40k to give you close m3 level of performance but the compromise was build quality and interior. Now with the price being higher it’s difficult to justify
@@Red5oh exactly, at 38k my GT Premium was great value for the performance you got, interior was not the strong point but you got a V8 under the hood, right now the dark horse costs exactly the same as an M2 here in my country and the M2 is miles away in interior quality and dare i say performance /tunning potential. A base mustang GT is sort of reasonably priced if you want a new V8 sports car (no V8 competitors anymore) but thats about it.
Who the hell wants a boring hardtop. That car should be offered just like it is in a production model with a convertible top. I don't mean watered down without the rear wing I'm talking full performance track pack in a convertible
It was a very weird decision for Ford to not go with a heritage name while GM and Dodge leave the muscle car market. You would think Ford would go hard on heritage to give all those people who wouldve bought challengers or camaros a home. Instead they chose a very weird name: Dark Horse. It doesn't really make sense. A loud v8 Mustang is NOT a Dark Horse by definition. If anything its the opposite- slower than it looks. It was just a very odd decision. Then ofcourse it reminds many of Katy Perry and the logo looks like a young girl designed it and ofcourse its overpriced.

The dark horse is around 100k here in Mexico, that’s just stupid for a car that has the same 5.0 engine as the gt which is also expensive at 75k USD, I rather get a second hand R8 V10 which is what I intend to do.
So I don't get the point, or why Ford released the Dark Horse, because even though it's better than the GT Performance Pack, it's not as powerful or nice looking as the Shelby.
People are crazy to pay $60,000 for a Mustang anything. That car is not worth $60,000. And it certainly is not worth a penny of ADM. These dealers only make fools out of you if you let them.
Unfortunately there are people out there with enough money and not much sense to pay this kinda mark up that is further encouraging dealers to keep doing this practice.
You should never pay over MSRP for a car. If the dealer has a markup on it, low ball them. If they don't come down, fuck 'em. It's a car. There will be more. You also have to be willing to go out of state for a car. My last car I bought 2 states over, but since I liked the car, driving it back wasn't so bad. Within 500 miles isn't really that big a deal. You can drive that in a day.
That plastic across the front is why I wouldn’t buy one. Did Ford run out of paint! In Australia this will be over $100K if we get them & they don’t paint the whole car!!
Geez $100k is expensive for a Mustang! There seems to be a trend in car industry having a matte black look which is what Ford is trying to go for. They just announced matte paint options for Mustangs
It’s a great car but not enough performance to justify $60k msrp with a 15-20k mark up. In a straight line it gets smoked by a LT1 Camaro. The Mach 1, GT350 and GT500 mustangs are a better buy. There performance justifies there asking price. The dark horse simply doesn’t meet the criteria of a $70-$80k car.
Yes I think 50-55k is where it should sit where straight line it's similar to GT but the extra bucks the buyer would pay will go towards handling. $65k is way too much for what is a track prepped car with only N/A 5.0
Dealers are not winning new fans, especially since the buyer knows more about the car, than the dude selling it. Until mfg's, restructure their contract with the dealers, the average buyer, is not going to buy! It is rediculous, for Ford, or any other,to build a beautiful car, only to have dealers destroy market feasibility! Markup pricing will not sustain any business, but will destroy what used to be a profitable, admired, American, industry!
Yeah unfortunately there are people with deep pockets and not enough sense to pay for that which further encourages the dealers to be greedy. This does nothing but take away these performance cars away from a regular car enthusiast.
Its not selling because the Dark horse name is new and people want a Mach 1 or Shelby and it also looks like a CAMERO.No Mustang fan is going to buy a Camero.
I have one on order through a dealer allocation and I will be paying MSRP..currently drive a very low mileage C5....I will admit, I will not be happy when a C8 pulls up alongside me and leaves me in the dust. But fortunately, the C8 prices are coming down...and with lowest trim (1LT) you would be paying about the same for a DH with the add-on...so I'm considereing going with a C8 and cancelling my DH order (9 months and still no build date...Ford is really dragging their feet). DH would have been really special if it had more power (i.e. 550HP and more torque)...or given a $10 grand option of Whipple Supercharger (with full factory warranty).
Because you can go get an S550 for half the price thats the real reason they aren't selling. Or a GT500 for the same price with low miles. Plus If I had that kind of money!! Why wouldn't I just get the GT with the 10 speed and 20 less horsepower that you won't miss at all for 10/15K less..
Yup 100% there's better options out there for that kinda price. Most people would also not track the car to that extent, so buying a GT with PP is better option
The starting price itself is too much and then dealers go and become basically resellers themselves and mark it up even more it just makes it stupid to pay so much for this basic ass car with a few cool things.

Yeah hoping to see one that’s not a press car! Hopefully as car market cools down we see less mark ups
Only seen 1 dark horse so far the rest have been gts and ecoboost. The dark horse is way too expensive.
Well leave your space because on the road I've seen 17 going too florida .

Manuals still have the MT82. Not sure if they improved it.
@@chopdogrulz1337Like polishing a turd
Yeah still MT82 for the GT
What's worse, Ford ADM price increases over MSRP or the new car buyers willing to pay them. If consumers didn't give in to these ADM's the dealers would remove them. When I bought my 2019 GT350 the local dealer wanted a $5000 ADM. I walked out and eventually they called me back to see I would take it at MSRP.
Yes unfortunately as long as people are willing to pay for ADMs the dealers will be greedy
just dont understand the hype…. for 70k im going to get a corvette. thats coming from a guy who bought a 2024 gt premium 2 weeks ago.
Congrats on the new car! But agreed for that price M3 or corvette is a better option or buy a GT and modify it
i want a gt350
That’s what I’d get for that kinda money
You can get a nicely equipped Mustang GT Premium for $55k
I bought an S550 brand new in 19.
It was a GT Premium with the PP1.
Sticker was right at 50K . I bought the car for $38,600. Drove it 3 years and put 30,000 miles on it and sold it to the same dealer I bought it from for $38,600 ! Proof positive that the market is INSANE right now ! As a result I haven’t bought a new Mustang. I’m just keeping my two Foxbodies and driving my 300,000 mile Toyota truck lol 😂
Crazy to think that’s the norm now. Premium GT used to go for 38-40 k without much haggling precovid
@@skipgumphrey9579 yeah pre Covid market was much better!
@@skipgumphrey9579 - Yep those good old days are over I’m afraid. Prices are solid at $50k and above for the GT. I’ve been checking frequently. Today I’ve seen some discounts though and that’s encouraging. However you’ll never buy a GT Premium new for less than $50. A Base GT is still in $40’s and a good deal if you can be happy driving a 300hp four without the macho V8 which does sound bad ass! The Ecoboost looks the same or better with a few cosmetic upgrades but has no character like that Coyote!

My bro if you snagged a 19 GT pp1 for more than 11k off the sticker you’re not telling us the whole story. Been around the car industry for 30yrs plus and nobody got a deal like that unless there were strings attached or daddy owned the lot you bought it from
Yeah best is to not buy. I almost ordered it twice and I backed out which I think was a good choice on my part.
That’s good to not give in to dealers being greedy. Did you get something else or waiting for market to cool down?
I ordered mine in middle October and have yet to hear anything from the dealer????
Uhh that’s a long time! Have you checked with the dealer?
If you order one, they won't mark it up and they only have a two- three month wait on builds. That being said I still wouldn't order one over a GT premium, to must money even at MSRP which is why I went with the GT.
My local dealer wanted to mark up by 10k on an order. I walked away from them immediately.
Wrong completely inaccurate
Not every dealer with allocations will let you place an order.
Couple dealers I’ve spoke to said there would be a mark up as they can still sell it someone who’s willing to pay the mark up. They get limited allocation so they are trying to make as much money with mark ups
ILL WAIT FOR THE NEW COBRA IN 2025 !
That would be nice to get a Shelby variant in a year or so
Same reason the Challengers sit on lots, dealer mark up and cars are over priced to start with.
Yup mark up are definitely ruining the car market
Did the dealer just give you run around or what? At least is500 got a 5.0 V8 too lol
Simply too much money for a Mustang with a Coyote engine and dealers want to mark them up even more. Better off buying a preowned Mach1.
Yeah low 50 is where I’d put to be worth it from performance and value standpoint
I tried to buy one in January for 50k when they came out but no one had it and I went last week and now it's 65.. this sucks
Yea I think even the MSRP is $58k for base and you cannot get them below MSRP
It’s got the corvette dash and bmw m4 comp dash
For $70k I’d have either of those than the DH lol
I have a Dark horse Mustang and I love it and that car is selling very well where I'm from!
The car is great the price is an issue. I have yet to see one that is not a press car but glad you are enjoying yours!
I got mine for $66,750. Markup of about 4k considering it was the premium. Not bad at all. Just gotta hope you find a good dealer.
I suppose if the car makes you happy. It’s still up there
I was fortunate enough to a get leftover 2022 Mach1 HP fully loaded with every available option except for the car cover for 5k under msrp last February..After all the papers were signed and the Mach was mine I asked my salesman what gives getting the car 5k under ..He told me it was a special order that the buyer decided he wanted to wait for the DH and that was true why most Mach1’s were left sitting…Still can’t believe I got one for the price cause they were marked up as well in ‘21 when they came out
Yeah for $70k with a supercharger won’t be bad. As it currently sits it should be around 50ish
@@Red5oh so pretty much sums up what I stated before. It’s a scam.
The reason it’s not selling is because it’s priced too high for what you get. It’s still a mustang after all. I sold my 2016 Roush supercharged Mustang GT PP and bought a 2023 Camaro 2SS 1LE last year for 55k and it’s just a better sports car in every way.
Yeah S550 makes a lot more sense even a Mach 1

Yup and I’m a huge Mustang fan but you can’t deny what c8 can do even in base trim insane value for money
8:05 Initially I wanted a loaded DH and fully optioned MSRP was $73k (ouch), then local dealers were adding $10k to that. I opted for a fully optioned Premium edition GT instead, got the X plan discount too, no regrets. The money I saved could get me a Whipple supercharger if I think I need it someday.
That's a great move! DH is a great car but not worth $83k in your scenario

Doesn’t the dark horse have forged internals?
Yes it does have some forged internals I believe the rods are forged from gt500
Yes but the GTs engine can already handle over 850 hp as is.

@@johnoaklay4694 yeah but for how long? 40k 60k miles? Less? At that power level a regular 5.0 is a good knock event away from a rebuild. That same power level in the DH version would hold up much better over time.

Should we judge a car based on dealership markups?
Fair point but even starting MSRP of $60k+ is out there
The interior are the exact same cheap materials that I had on my 2017 GT premium that I got brand new for 38k USD, I have had several BMW, Audi and Porsche since then and even an entry car from BMW (M240i previous gen) had better interior, Porsche is on another planet.
Crazy tho that the interiors for the 15+ are way better than the previous Mustang.

Now that you put it in perspective that is crazy! Of course inflation has to with it but imo it's absurd how expensive Mustangs have gotten
I'd take a 1985 Mustang GT over a 1983. Those 225-60-15 Goodyear Gatorback tires alone on the '85 are a big enough upgrade.
Ya and for me it’s not enough to go from a Mach 1 HP
Yeah Mach 1 HP can’t beat for its value
The dark horse is around 100k here in Mexico, that’s just stupid for a car that has the same 5.0 engine as the gt which is also expensive at 75k USD, I rather get a second hand R8 V10 which is what I intend to do.
Yes 100% unless you track you won’t notice much performance difference on the street
So I don't get the point, or why Ford released the Dark Horse, because even though it's better than the GT Performance Pack, it's not as powerful or nice looking as the Shelby.
Yup it sits at an awkward point as a track car. For the price it's commanding it needs to have more than modified 5.0 with suspension bits
The Dark Horse biggest competition is the lighter faster less expensive and better looking Mach 1 and GT350’s
Yup exactly Mach 1 is pretty similar and much cheaper while the gt350 is a more special
None around me on the lot?
Maybe they did not get enough allocations to begin with
People are crazy to pay $60,000 for a Mustang anything. That car is not worth $60,000. And it certainly is not worth a penny of ADM. These dealers only make fools out of you if you let them.
Unfortunately there are people out there with enough money and not much sense to pay this kinda mark up that is further encouraging dealers to keep doing this practice.
It’s so fucked up how dealers will play this off as some super special car and requires a 20k markup
Yeah unfortunately people keep falling for it so they keep asking for mark ups
$10k for markup at $75k - that's vette price
Easily! Also M4 territory
These dealerships have ruined the car market.
Yeah their greed has killed many great cars
You should never pay over MSRP for a car. If the dealer has a markup on it, low ball them. If they don't come down, fuck 'em. It's a car. There will be more. You also have to be willing to go out of state for a car. My last car I bought 2 states over, but since I liked the car, driving it back wasn't so bad. Within 500 miles isn't really that big a deal. You can drive that in a day.
Yeah you can usually get small dealers to go msrp or even below for these type of cars. I don't support the ADM at all
ADM's have killed the DH, Corvette etc.
Yup and the Gt500s too! Ford needs to crackdown on those dealers
That cockpit is awefull against older models that electric granny seats
I have come to like the screen due to their customizability
Yup and the price too much for what is a modified mustang GT
The price!!!!! No way it’s worth $60,000 to $70,000. NO WAY
Low $50k is where I’d put for it to be worth personally. $60-$70k is Shelby money
It is way too much, but you're really paying for a lot of technology. Like just the magna ride suspension is way more $$ than just standard struts.
All they had to do is put the dark horse badge in the front
Price will still hold it back
Cars not 60,000 with premium recaros manual and appearance it’s a 68 plus thousand dollar cars 73000 with handling pack
Yeah $60k is just base. To your point $70k is too much then add the dealer mark ups
Everyone needs to just day no to these markups.
I’m with you 1000%!
I have the money to buy one CASH, but I am NOT paying any markups to greedy stealerships.
Yeah it sad the dealers will let go of sale like yours just to keep it on the lot longer for someone to pay over msrp
Dealer markups and inflation. Plain and simple.
You are correct!
Why it's not selling? 1. Design is ugly, to be honest. 2. The interior is made of cheap cheap cheap stuff. 3. High interest rate + dealer markup, etc.
You nailed it! Price is a big component with greedy dealers marking up. Also doesn’t help even with to tier credit the isn’t rates are 6%
@Red5oh mayb u should go back and look again . Cause , I just tried to get one and can't find one .
Well in northeastern Ohio they are selling well. Dealers can't keep them.
I wonder if they aren’t being greedy and doing no mark ups. All the dealers I’ve been to have mark ups
I don't know how anything is selling for the prices...
Yea then add dealer mark ups and the car is ruined for average people
Terrible looking Mustang with the fake gauge video game screens is a laughable joke! Then there’s the overpriced issue….🤦🏼♂️🤷♂️
Overpriced is the concern for DH specific cars
Yep....ugly Crapmaro Transformer styling with huge, hideous video screens.
....and I'm a Mustang fan.
The starting price itself is too much and then dealers go and become basically resellers themselves and mark it up even more it just makes it stupid to pay so much for this basic ass car with a few cool things.
Yes dealer mark ups are really killing these cars
