The Beamer is running a large aftermarket single-turbo. The turbo lag is going to be insane compared to stock twin-turbos. When you mentioned two wheel drive and four wheel drive .... and said four wheel drive in needed. Four wheel drive is not used in supercars. All wheel drive is used in super cars. With TRUE four wheel drive the axles lock/the differentials lock, and from one wheel to the other it's like a solid axle. When making turns on roads and other hard high traction surfaces that tears apart four wheel drive. In any turn or curve each tire takes a different path of different length. Each axle has to be able to rotate/spin at different speeds to match the turn. The computers on AWD vehicles sense tire spin or slip and shift traction to different wheels/tires. In a true 4WD system each front tire always, when in 4WD, rotates at the exact same speed as the other, even if you're 'hanging a tire.' Same with the rear. Many people think that AWD is the same as 4WD. They are wrong.

Did he say how big the turbo is in the M3? It’s seems to lag until the end of the powerband and when the boost catches up the tires turn loose. Seems like a temperamental beast to drive.
That depends on the size of the turbochargers and how they car is tuned. Most turbocharged engines in stock vehicles now make most of their power from 1500 to 5000 RPMs. They make massive torque right off idle, with little or no lag. It's not like turbocharged cars from the 90s.
I have a 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 6.2L with 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, stock. I want to at least put a small turbo in it. But my wife said no. She knows that if I start there, I won't stop there. Her words, if you're going to start messing with that truck, you have to buy a Denali first, so we still have something to pull our travel trailer with. She doesn't play fair!
My M3 was not a competition and my Mustang was a GT. Neither was modified like these two cars were. Mine were entirely factory. The Mustang was fun and great in a straight line. The BMW was better in the turns by a wide margin. The Mustang didn't stop as well as the BMW. The Mustang sounded much better and received much more attention. I also thought the Mustang had better road feel and steering feedback. The BMW felt a bit muted. Both were great cars to drive in their own way. I have a 2008 135i that I bought brand new, and to be honest, I keep it because I like it better than either of these cars as a daily driver and for some stop light to stop light fun. There are many, many fast cars here in the USA, and many of them aren't even sports cars. Any garden variety of 3.5L EcoBoost Ford F-150 pickup can get to 60 miles per hour in 5 seconds or less from the factory. That's not bad for a full size anything, let alone a full size pickup truck with large wheels and high ground clearance.

The problem I have with this particular matchup is that they went with the best M4 in the UK versus like a low tier, performance mustang... Try that against a gt500 Mustang.
I have friend with an M3. When I got my Cobra, and that's what this car is. It physically looks like a Mustang but it is totally different manufacture. I took him for a ride in it and he told me then, "I don't want to race you!" The car sits lower than a Corvette!! I run Hellcats without issues! As we say in Texas; y'all be safe.
The mustang was designed in Detroit and all the racing we do is drag racing. The BMW was built for power to move you through traffic on your commute home from the office and the mustang was made to race from stop light to stop light on Gratiot or Woodward. They're built to be pumped up to 7 or 800 HP and only need regular oil changes.
Cool video. I am a ford guy. I would have liked to see the rolling race with the BMW in 4th gear and the Mustang in 3rd gear. I think you would have had a lot more even of a race. They can be at the same speed starting.
I learned to drive a 4-speed stick on my Grandmother's '74 Mustang. At 18 I bought my first car, a used '78 Mustang. Traded the 4 cylinder '78 on a brand new '83 4 bbl 5-speed 302 Boss Mustang which I raced at Sears Point (Sonoma) CA. Take a wild ass guess what my favorite car is.
the reason why they run smaller turbos is response time. a large single turbo produces more overall power...but is slow to spool up giving it low end lag.
I always thought BMW M series & Audi S series were the European equivalent of our muscle cars. Need 4 seats but still want speed & fun. My mother has always driven Mustangs since late ‘80’s. She just got the newest release convertible with active exhaust. It’s giggle inducing. My favorite was her 2011 California Special the first modern Stang with 400 hp.
Corvettes are sick! Its like a Ferrari you can modify without being sued by the maker. They’re sick. You need to listen to muscle cars in the USA to understand (even tho they annoy me on the road….cuz i have to pause my podcasts next to them at a stop-light…..you know it’s a serious ride and stay away)
IT turned out exactly as I figured once they gave the specs. The Mustang with the V 8 6 speed started pulling away when he was hitting 5th and , and he said he got a bad start the one he lost. The V 6 Automatic is lower geared in 3rd and 4 than the mustang is, and they were standing on it in that gear and you hear the M 3 just reaching the turbo in both gears when he punched it, and 3rd at 50 wanted to break the tires loose. The Mustang in 3rd and 4th was not as high in the RPM range with the V 8, so it lagged getting to the boost... But overall, decent races...
One of the other huge differences, is not the HP/TQ but rather the gearing. American cars aren't geared for top-end speed, they are geared for 0-60/1/4 mile standing start. The rolling races expose this as the gear ratio on a the Mustang in 3rd or 4th is a lot taller than the M3 in 3rd or 4th. Nevermind the difference between supercharger and turbo charger mechanics. Turbos spool up and keep that power going higher into the RPM range, whereas the SC is belt drive off the engine RPMs, to give extra power at the bottom of the RPM range. Once the RPM get too high, you face parasitic lag from the SC which actually begins to decrease power output. All this adds up to: if you want a QUICK car (0-100) you go SC, if you want a FAST car (160+) you go Turbo. And if you want a little of both, you go sequential turbo where a smaller turbo handles the low end and a larger turbo handles the top.
You can't do a rolling race by what gear your in. The cars ar geared differently. Your rpms could be optimized while mine are slugging along (below the power band). And the M3 loses because it's butt ugly
He had to keep racing so he could win one! The Mustang was heavier, and the BMW was automatic which shifts faster than a manual shift! Back in the late 60's I was racing a my Z28 Chevy 4 speed manual shift against an automatic Z28! I had him off the line but about halfway through the race, he went ahead and stay because of the automatic!
FYI , Ferrari used almost the exact 5.0 liter engine as Ford uses for its 8 cylinder program. The big difference in Ferrari and Ford is the firing pattern of cylinders. The firing pattern on the yhe Ford 5.0 is what gives the mustang its distinct exhaust sound .
I'm here in the states and me and my friend work for Ford for 30yrs his anniversary gift to him self was a slightly used GT500 25k mi full carbon wheels and interior, same color as the one in your video, the sound in real life is so ridiculous. Then a week later he ordered his new performance parts he has 900hp already 😂😂😂I told him my gift to myself is either a Lamborghini Huracan or a C8 ZO6 Vette😂
I watched the last interview with Carol Shelby and he was asked what was the best engine ever made. He said the 5.4 liter 4V Ford engine. That would be the engine in the Mustang in this video.
Mustang 6 speed Manual is an awesome car and I would personally choose it over any DCT/Automatic, but you can't beat a DCT transmission when it comes to shifting gears fast.
According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Chevrolet Camaro, Dodge Challenger, Dodge Charger, and Ford Mustang are among the vehicles with the highest driver death rates. The IIHS suggests that muscle cars are driven more aggressively than other vehicles, which leads to more deadly crashes.

Put it against the 10 speed Automatic transmission. BMW will lose so bad it be crying home. Facts. Learn something I will teach you anytime. 30yrs working and building race car's. Helped John Force when he was with Ford.
A few years ago I had a 100year anniversary Challenger with a 345ci Hemi. I was living in the desert. Miles of straight flat roads with nowhere for cops to hide. I was smoking BMW’s of different models.
100?
Mustangs with the 5.0 have a very unique sound. All the way back to the early S197 body (2005-2014).
All the way back to 64
Had a Cougar with a 5.0 302 supercharged. It purred like a kitten.
Did he say how big the turbo is in the M3? It’s seems to lag until the end of the powerband and when the boost catches up the tires turn loose. Seems like a temperamental beast to drive.
Turbocharger vs. Supercharger differences, too. Turbos really pull at higher RPM's.
That depends on the size of the turbochargers and how they car is tuned. Most turbocharged engines in stock vehicles now make most of their power from 1500 to 5000 RPMs. They make massive torque right off idle, with little or no lag. It's not like turbocharged cars from the 90s.
That Mustang sounds so good
I have a 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 6.2L with 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, stock. I want to at least put a small turbo in it. But my wife said no. She knows that if I start there, I won't stop there. Her words, if you're going to start messing with that truck, you have to buy a Denali first, so we still have something to pull our travel trailer with. She doesn't play fair!
That’s crazy cuz I think the bwm looks boring the mustang is mean looking
Excuses, excuses. Brits and Euros just understand the proper way to drag race. Here is the states we grow up doing it.
The reason you like your 135i so much is the same reason Miatas are so popular. It’s more fun to dive a slow car fast than a fast car slow
The really funny part is there are Ford F-150's prowling my streets that would destroy both of those cars on a quarter mile.
I myself grew up around bmw as my mom has a 2018 M5, but most standard sports cars can outdo the M models let alone the cost of upkeep on a bmw, especially when you have certain models because their engines aren’t very reliable. Hence why they probably chose a modified version of the M3 and took off the crap tt and replaced it with a single turbo and internal engine upgrades.
My buddy has a focus RS pushing around 700whp to all 4 wheels and it’ll dust any bmw, Mercedes, etc. After the car cost (44kUSD) plus upgrades (11-15k usd), it’ll smoke almost anything on the street. He beat a 2019 Bugatti in the 1/4 mile, but if the race was longer, the Bugatti would have won on the top end.
If that mustang had the 10 speed auto box it would have eaten the 3 series even more.

In the states we have the F150 single cab 4x4 with the 5.0 liter that you can add a factory supercharger and in the end have a factory warranty and it will smoke both cars !
my buddy's dad in high school co-owned a auto performance shop and rented out Route 66 drag strip so we could race our cars. I'll never forget the look on his dad's face when he let him take his Chevy Impala down the strip and he blew the motor up. 1200hp with a 150 shot of NOS.
Shifting with my left hand would be so strange.
I grew up doing it in my Dad’s 1988 Nissan Hardbody pickup. I thought the pattern would be reversed so 1st would be by Brits’ legs, but found out late that it’s the same pattern
First off, great channel. Easy to watch, and great reactions. Speaking of which, check out the Jeep Trakhawk.....sic ask. Keep up the great vids.
i was waiting for the hidden SUUPPPRAAAAA!!! to pass the mustang. LOL
Here in the states BMW's become major money pits as they age. So, they lose resale value at an alarming rate.
I’m from Los Angeles and grew up buying and selling American muscle cars, while in high school in the late 1990’s. Sooo many cars went through my hands, very cheap too! Though I’ve owned BMW and MBZ too and they’re great cars which I love just as much!! M3 rocks! All M series BMW’s are kick @ss incredible cars!! I’m a car guy, I love them all!
What tires would be better for this you say? Simple, Mickey Thompson Drag Radials!
moral of the story" bmw is still trash compared to mustang" lol

I't really depends on the car if thats to much for a RWD. Cleatus Mcfarlands El'camino has like 2500 hp and it's RWD
The problem I have with this particular matchup is that they went with the best M4 in the UK versus like a low tier, performance mustang... Try that against a gt500 Mustang.
It's also not a "drag race" if it's taking 30 seconds to get to the finish.
Don't like to brag but I own a KIA Sorento lol.
I'm sure it'll come in handy for carrying the camera gear to record the drags.
KIA = Killed In Action 🤣
I own a 2.0 liter Nissan Sentra.
Korean cars 👎
I have friend with an M3. When I got my Cobra, and that's what this car is. It physically looks like a Mustang but it is totally different manufacture. I took him for a ride in it and he told me then, "I don't want to race you!"
The car sits lower than a Corvette!! I run Hellcats without issues!
As we say in Texas; y'all be safe.
Check out the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing! It's eating those alive! Cadillac CTS-V 3 is most likely doing the same lol
Real life lesson…. You better bring a monster to the track and you better not miss anything or u loose. Hahahaha 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼good test there.
12:20 slicks, They're on street tires, the car is built for slicks.
Have You Seen Caitlin Clark?
What about a Hellcat Car Out Pacing a Helicopter in Texas?
I’m surprised they didn’t heat up the tires before lining up.
Cool video. I am a ford guy. I would have liked to see the rolling race with the BMW in 4th gear and the Mustang in 3rd gear. I think you would have had a lot more even of a race. They can be at the same speed starting.
Around where I live 950 HP is nice but no where near the big boy lol so many 1200+cars
Y'all should have a race with an American car and a British car. Now that would be fascinating.
My 1967 Camaro drag car does a 5.19 second quarter mile at 267 miles per hour. I have 4,500 horsepower on nitro methane fuel.
LOL No you don't.
the reason why they run smaller turbos is response time. a large single turbo produces more overall power...but is slow to spool up giving it low end lag.
I’m in the USA and have a dodge challenger scat pack and have upwards of 500 hp and it’s hard to keep the tiers from spinning all the time
NO REPLACEMENT FOR DISPLACEMENT. REAR WHEAL DRIVE DRAGSTERS 11,000 HP.
truth
They also run Superchargers to not turbo's.
That V8 torque gets em every time.
Pfff the new Corvette ZR1 with 1064hp would eat both of those cars alive. 🤣

When you guys see a mustang, corvette, f-150 truck, or any American car brand are they left or right hand drive?
Right hand on the mustangs as we have Ford in the U.K. so they produce them here but no idea about the corvettes
That’s why we use drag slicks
That BMW still Looks ugly…They all look the same.
Same can be said about all mustangs from the past 10 years. ALL look the same
@@JCizzleSoCal cant say that about corvettes.

You can't do a rolling race by what gear your in. The cars ar geared differently. Your rpms could be optimized while mine are slugging along (below the power band). And the M3 loses because it's butt ugly
These are levels of power that will overwhelm almost any street legal tire on a RWD car.
Is vinyl wrapping that big in the uk? 🇬🇧
The linear horsepower of the V8 just seems to be the right set up.
The firing pattern on the yhe Ford 5.0 is what gives the mustang its distinct exhaust sound .
the F'150's have the same engine as the mustang and 4WD, they absolutely destroy supercars when you do a few things to them.
Have you seen the Haulcat dodge ram 1500 vs Tesla model S P100D Drag Race?
12:00 i always wanted to see both of these roll kings go at it🔥🔥🔥
I'm here in the states and me and my friend work for Ford for 30yrs his anniversary gift to him self was a slightly used GT500 25k mi full carbon wheels and interior, same color as the one in your video, the sound in real life is so ridiculous. He saved up over 15yrs to buy it. He cashed it out. Then a week later he ordered his new performance parts he has 900hp already 😂😂😂I told him my gift to myself is either a Lamborghini Huracan or a C8 ZO6 Vette😂
I drive my Roush stage3 Mustang every day to work. Fun fun. Supercharged
Love both cars but M3 has all wheel drive and 4 doors. Used to own a Shelby Cobra Convertible, very fun car.
I watched the last interview with Carol Shelby and he was asked what was the best engine ever made. He said the 5.4 liter 4V Ford engine. That would be the engine in the Mustang in this video.
Love my 2017 Mustang GT get so many kids wanting me to rev it makes my day 🙂👍🏾
I get so excited when I see other countries getting so excited about our American cars ❤
Mustang 6 speed Manual is an awesome car and I would personally choose it over any DCT/Automatic, but you can't beat a DCT transmission when it comes to shifting gears fast.
Its that turbo boost that hits in 3rd and 4th with the beemer.
I would rather have the Mustang.
