Just look up any DIY video on painting door knobs (even with this product) and read the comments. You'll find complaints, after only a few weeks later, about the scratches and then the eventual disclaimer that replacing your door knobs is preferable to refinishing if possible. This method is actually ideal if you're flipping the house and want to save a few bucks. But if you're going to live there, nuh-uh don't do it.
Enamel protective spray can extend the life of the finish, but on things like striker plates good luck. That spray paint will be ideal for my rusty ceiling registers.

A can of spray paint is almost the same cost as a brand new register...
