    I have a 2001 2500 cummins. I would love to upgrade to a 2020 but I would need to get two more jobs, sell one or two of my kids and have the wife get a second job. The price on the new trucks are ridiculous.

      been buying RAM trucks for the past 2 years and what i have noticed is that the best time to buy a RAM truck is from mid October to the end of the year. This past year i bought a new Ram Rebel with a MSRP of 54k for 38,500 before taxes. That was a great deal. I was not looking at the 2500 then, but started looking in December of 2019 and you the 2019 2500 Leramie 4x4 were selling for about 52k or 54k depending on options. About 15k of MSRP.
      SO just around those times for the deal possible.

    Really like the video. You’re the first reviewer who has ever mentioned the lateral tail wag. I own a 2015, 2016 and 2018 Ram 2500 and they are used quite extensively to tow heavy loads here on our farm in California. They ride incredibly nice but when the bed is loaded with tools and has a fifth wheel, I sometimes experience a rocking boat motion that has occasionally progressed to the point where I need to reduce speed. This has primarily happened with the air suspension coupled with the RamBoxes. I completely agree with your assessment to hold off getting a new truck with the new cab and transmission update with more gears. Personally, because I had a 2013 1500 with the eight speed ZF transmission, I hope Ram decides to go with the ZF transmission. The have such buttery smooth and precise shifting qualities that have to be felt to be believed. Until then, I’ll keep my current 4th gen. trucks even though they have over 100,000 miles on them.

I add 65l of DEF at every other tank of fuel(2246l or 600 gallons) my 500hp volvo thats gets 6.3mpg at 140,000lbs is averaging 88km/L(51mpg) on def. Good review. Just to let everyone know that we haul a 15,000lb gooseneck, cross country all the time and it's stable as can be. Max tow on my 2500 is nearly 20,000lbs, so there is no need for a 3500 unless you are regularly hauling 17,000+.

    • @randyphillips559
      @randyphillips559 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      My 2019 Cummins 2500 has a payload of 2069lbs, my 8,000lb empty, 5th has a tongue weight of 1,650lbs, I can barely slide in under the payload restriction. I'd suggest you don't check the pin weight of your 15,000lb trailer!! Yes you can certainly pull it but will your insurance cover you in an accident!!

    • @islandbunny07
      @islandbunny07 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Jonathan Tripp That's more of a problem with the design of 5th wheel campers. With gooseneck flatbeds and livestock haulers etc, you are able to shift the load weight so you achieve an appropriate tongue weight. If we are talking 5th wheels, you probably maxing out with an 11,000lb trailer plus kit.

    • @islandbunny07
      @islandbunny07 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’ll speak as a 5th gen owner....1st off I LOVE my 19 2500 Laramie, truck runs circles around my dads 18 3500 and when we saw the 5th gen released I told him I was gonna buy one. At the current moment though my truck is at the dealer with a handful of recalls and for its first oil change at 8k miles. Recalls are as follows. 1: Radio electronic components update. (Something to do with the hardware inside) 2: Transmission bracket replacement (apparently fluid could leak and cause a fire) 3: Rear fold down step underneath bumper removal. (Apparently they break and RAM is having it removed for safety reasons until they come up with a better design). I elected to keep mine on as I’ve had no issues. Also not a recall is my heated steering wheel threw a code stating an “open circuit” was occurring and preventing the wheel from heating up regardless of outside temp. As with all new generation vehicles, there will be bugs but regardless I absolutely LOVE this truck, I’d buy one everyday over other major brands. My father in law own his own automotive shop and I consulted him when shopping and he told me if I want to make him a lot of money buy a Ford, if I want to have front end problems buy a Chevy. RAM is the best diesel out there period.

Transmission issues, electronics acting up, front diff issues, etc. luckily a recall of the trans catching the truck on fire allowed me to go back to the new powerstrokes.

    @10:20 I drive for a living, currently In a '16 Sierra 2500. I tow fiberglass pools and equipment, between baton rouge and houston. Average weight ranges from 8k-11k lbs. Ive been thinking about trading mine in for a Ford, another GMC or chevy for the last year. Ram wasn't even on my radar.
    March 23rd this year a chick hit me, I ended up in a rental for over a month. It was a 2019 ram tradesman. My mind was blown. This is the best driving truck I've ever sat in, and that coilover suspension is what makes the difference.
    I tow 10k lbs daily, never even considered buying a ram, and my next truck will be a ram specifically because of the suspension.

    Great, informative video on the 2019! So many of the reviewers just repeat the standard bullet points and don't get into actual driving experience. It's literally like they all just copy each other's notes. I love my 2019 2500 Laramie megacab. Pretty much the same truck as the one reviewed but Granite Crystal but on stock wheels/suspension. I don't think I could give up the smooth/quiet ride on stock wheels but that truck does look extremely nice!
    Weird negative for me, why is there no physical 'Off' button for climate control? And the 'Off' button in the 12" screen is so tiny at the bottom of the screen. Also, just to clarify for people, you do not get the Aisin as standard on a 3500 and both Cummins engines are CGI blocks, not just the high output.

While i am sure the 3500 would be better but that's expected, its a heavier duty truck. I’m actually a big fan of the rear coil suspension when you complement it with an axle to frame airbag setup. Much like a semi truck has. It’s the most Road compliance to keep your tires firmly on the road no matter if it’s washboard or expansion joints potholed curves etc. Better control and better ride and tune-able via air pressure to your particular load. It beats Rams air only set up or leaf spring setups.

    • @stevehinkley9099
      @stevehinkley9099 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JustDiesels I'd be curious to know more - one big thing I like about the AEV setup is that it allows for 40" tires on 3" lift, thanks to the revised fenders. I also like the idea of warranty, which as I understand from my local dealer, purchasing the full build through the dealer means there's only one place to turn to if something goes wrong: them. I've modded a LOT of cars/trucks over the years, working on them myself and having shops do a lot of the work, always piecing together the truck from lots of different sources for parts. At the end of the day, something always breaks, and that's when the finger pointing starts (usually back at the owner, as I've experienced). The simplicity of a very capable kit that has a warranty is really appealing to me. One approach would be to simply go with the AEV kit, use it as much as I can, and if I find it limits what I'd like to do, I can explore another pathway then. Or, I can wait until the warranty expires and then start pulling in other parts.

But I ordered a 2022 Tundra (not really ordered but put down deposit to be in the line) TRD Pro as my personal vehicle. These two are completely different vehicles. It really comes down to what you use them primarily for. I would however advise against Ram 1500 that I briefly had - it remained as a mystery as why the engine would stall for no reason every now and then, and there's no pattern when it happened. I had the Rebel trim, the interior and ride quality was great. But just too worried about its reliability and the fact that the service ppl can't really pinpoint the issue and have it properly fixed.

    I would have to disagree to an extent about what you said about the rear coils being terrible for heavy towing. I tow pretty regularly for farm work, from large loads of hay, to horses, to cows, to heavy equipment many times as max gross weight and sometimes over on short trips down the road. My previous truck was an 07 duramax, and I feel like this truck is lightyears ahead of my old truck as far as stability and load caring capability. The truck also squats less then my duramax did hauling the same loads, this coil suspension will sit exactly level with the rear axle at max capacity (6k lbs). Now obviously I would agree that if your truck is a dedicated tow rig the 3500 is the way to go. But for a small hobby farmer like myself who daily drives my truck I feel like the coil suspension is a great option.

    Here are the trash things with the new trucks if you want to get one
    1) Hood shakes like crazy. Its a weak structural design with poor mounts. Their "fix" is just adjusting the hood stops rendering the front seal useless
    2) You will eventually get a clunk that is attributed to poor body mounts. Cold weather makes it worse but it effects a majority of trucks out there (2019+)
    3) The CP4 failures are still happening but they are too new to tell how much impact it will be on the brand as a whole. CP3 conversions have been released but, you guessed it, it will need tuning, bye bye warranty
    4) HVAC is hit or miss with the cooling. My truck hasnt had any issues, other have but check it before you drive it off the lot
    5) The trans has finally be figured out but after two TCM revisions. If you get a new one youll already likely have the update. I still need to get mine but I am hoping its successful (AISIN TRUCKS ONLY) 68s seem better than they were but its still a 68 folks
    6) Minor: the visors pop out when you use them
    7) The fuel economy isnt mid 20's I dont care what anyone says hand calculated unloaded youll get 17-19 at best when traveling 75-80. Lower speeds could get you to 19-21 but thats a stretch
    8) These things still chew up tires so rotate often
    The positive list is longer than the negative but I hope if you buy one you see this so you will know some of the frustrations you could run into

    Don’t understand why the 2500 wouldn’t be good for towing? Bought my 2019 to tow my mini excavator on the week days, and on the weekends i tow my RV!!! Quite frankly so far its been doing a awesome job!!! Still got my 2007 a friend of mine is rebuilding the engine When that’s done it’ll continue to tow my mini x....

    I have a 2021 Tradesman 3500. I do miss all the bells and whistles, but it’s still a great work truck.

    Information I haven’t gotten from other reviews. When Ram comes up with an 8 or 10 speed solid transmission for the Cummins , they’ll be the leaders of the pack.

      They don't need more gears. The 10 speeds have very little variation in gear ratio. They don't make 10th gear twice as much as 5th gear it's more like 10th gear is 0.1 revolution more than 6th gear. In the 10 speed you get into 3rd before you cross an intersection from 0 to 25 mph.

      You are crazy. Those 10 speeds are not ideal. In fact they are having issues now that they have been out for 2 years. The only reason why some manufacturers have gone to 10 speeds is the EPA. Other wise 8 was the perfect number of gears.

    Dude, I have the 2020 3500 Bighorn. The premium cloth seats are the best seats I have ever sat in. I didn't know cloth could be so good.
