    Get rid of all the bells and whistles they force on us to raise the price and get back to a simple, efficient truck. I don't need all the high-tech crap in a 3/4 or 1 ton truck. I need a simple truck that is reliable and won't have plastic breaking off or electronics going haywire.

    You hit the nail on the head. I’ve been saying this exact same thing. Ram has really shit the bed by not updating their transmissions, engine, cab and payload. Yet they’ve jacked up their prices over all other trucks. Why would I buy 2013 technology and styling when I can get a new Ford or Chevy with all new engines and cabs especially since those brands have really updated their interiors. These facts probably explain why I recently bought a new Ford 3500 srw with the 7.3 over the 6.4 Ram. I just got tired of waiting for Ram to get off their asses to update their trucks.

    • @SliderFury1
      @SliderFury1 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      This is exactly what I did. Got a more recently updated truck ('24 F350 7.3) with more tech, more payload, more power, more features, a bigger gas tank, more comfortable massaging seats, a better paint job, for LESS MONEY than what Ram is trying to charge.
      I might have been able to get a slightly better deal at a Ram dealer cause they're getting desperate but the thing is, I'm not that desperate. $3500 off a brand new F350 Platinum and top-end market value for my trade worked for me.

    Why are you worried about the cab? it’s it’s super ergonomic and most comfortable cab I’ve ever been in. It hasn’t had too much trouble with rusting and they have a beautiful interior. If it’s not broken don’t fix it. And a 32 gallon can get you over 600 miles per tank if you are getting close to 20 mpg which most these Cummins can do unloaded.

    You pointed out one the biggest problems with the Ram 3/4 ton...it only comes in a 10,000 lb GVWR version on their regular HD trucks. GM has a 10,000 lb version and three other versions going up to 11,750 lbs. That translates directly into more payload capacity. Even my Silverado 1500 has has a payload capacity of 1910 lbs. So that low GVWR is one of two automatic deal breakers. The other one is the lack of Auto 4WD. I spend six months a year in winter weather conditions. I've had GM Auto 4WD trucks for over 23 years now and I can't imagine ever owning another truck without it. If I were to buy a 3/4 ton truck today it would have to be a GM because that's the only one available with Auto 4WD in the 3/4 ton and one ton market segment.

      My 22 Ram 2500 6.7L is a 10K, and a sad ON PAPER payload. It's that way for insurance/licensing reasons for the average person. My truck has had plenty more than the rated weight in the bed with no issues. Never even been looked at twice by the cops or anything.

      Why don't all states just plate them like commercial. Buy what you need.
      F350 Gas - Plated 26000 (+$175) 14000 equipment trailer.
      Ram 1500 - Plated 8000 (+$23)
      Trailers to 10000 exempt from GVW
      Most half tons have a low GVWR for CAFE reasons. They have to do the MPG test with all equipment with a 25% take rate + 1/2 max payload.

    Holding off on a major cab change is cost effective for both, the manufacturer, and consumers that are not 'chasing' the newest gadgets/ styling. They are able use the same parts across more years...both, production lines and repairs on sold units. For guys like me (I keep vehicles 10-20+ years) this is fantastic, as parts are more readily available, should something wear out/ break. Toyota and Honda have been doing this for years. It improves long term reliability...and that's what sells vehicles.

    You make many solid points. I take exception with saying the bed is too small on a shortbed RAM. You always have the option of a long bed unless you choose MegaCab. Lots of people use their trucks for trailer duty, 6'4" is plenty for that. Remember, short is short. Get a long bed if that isn't enough.

    • @sirblood
      @sirblood หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’d have to disagree. I find myself jealous of the couple inches the gm and ford hd beds have on my 2500.. but I do not want a bed that’s almost 2’ longer. I often load my bed to the gills and my coworker has a 1500 with the exact same bed. The fords and gms standard bed size reflects the HD when comparing to their half ton counterparts.

      Nah.. F450 Limited top notch, its leather & suede roof liner is more supple. Cabin much bigger & roomy, leg room better, visibility, screen displays... I've driven all 3.. 2024 models.. and at 6'8" only Ford's provides the comfort and layout.

      @@dougcjohn I have a 24 Platinum. I sold a 14 ram Limited. I can say from personal experience Ram build quilty on the interior is better. Talking about panel gaps, fit and finish. 24 f350 platinum and limited still have to much plastic on the dash and if you look closely you will see gaps, you won't see that on the Rams. Plus the Rams are covered in leather were the Fords are not. I like my Platinum and just have to except the fact that it is not put together as well as my old 14 Ram Limited.

    • @dougcjohn
      @dougcjohn หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@1smokan I can understand your expressions… and appreciate your success with Ram…. Wish ya nothing but reliable success… at these prices they all need to be the Best in Our Purchase Satisfaction. Although I disagree; My observations have viewed Rams as pretty on “surface", bad stitching, poor lamination of wood / carbon, leather seats tearing with wear, and inferior plastics & mounts behind all the fancy trim. I’m coming from a GM & Mopar history… long time Jeeper… full option Grand Cherokee Overland 5.7 Hemi and Ram diesel Limited 3500 Dually. The seats are narrower and leather doesn’t compare to Ford’s.. all my Mopar leather wore out within 5-7 yrs, not Fords. More rattles in Ram Cabs, and more electronic failures in dash components. I’d agree, Ford doesn’t have the visual "fancy" image in cab… but they wear better longer, have a more functional interior look & operation and as mentioned previously, way more comfortable & quiet. If you trade often, these aren’t issues… but if longevity is applied, goes to Ford and that in my opinion better quality.
      Although I will agree, visual to the eye the Ram has an edge at first. The Sexy Hips on Dually, but I now prefer the more muscular hips on F450 Limited, larger door entry and better ergonomic positioned controls and wider more comfortable leather seats of Ford. I’ve had my new ‘24 F450 on order since Sept ‘23… looked at dozens of Ram Dually’s in lots, almost bought 3500 Dually Limited last month but just didn’t stack up to F450 Limited, so waited as many waited for Super Duties.
      It all comes to a personal experience… and if you had some bad experience with your Fords… then I understand your viewpoint. I’ve had less success with Mopar products.

    • @dougcjohn
      @dougcjohn หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@1smokan I can totally understand your viewpoint, looks like we both wonder on Brands. Although I disagree on quality. I’ve owned all 3 Brands, Ram 3500 Limited Diesel Dually, Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.7 Overland… both still in the driveway, and I’ve worked on all 3 Brands professionally years back, taught Automotive in a Community College and DIY in more recent years.
      I’d agree with you on the “surface” the Ram visually looks nice.. similar to a GM, but the wood and leather lamination on the plastic trim is problematic & expensive to replace. The plastic frames and mounts for the fancy surface trim is more brittle, breaks easier and the dash components rattle much more. My Experience, Dash Electronics, Sensors and Climate Controls have a higher tendency to fail in the Mopars. The leather seats are narrower, similar to their buckets in the Cars, not a wide Truck seat. Mopar Leather is lower grade, no where close to the quality of the Ford Leather in durability, wear and stitching. Every Mopar Seat has ripped or sewing torn after 6-7 years… And Mopar discontinues the various color seat covers to replace… forcing 3rd Party matching. Seat’s Foam is way too firm when new then way to saggy when worn, foam breaks down fast, in contrast Ford’s Foam is softer when new and doesn’t break down as fast.

The Ford Interior is not as visually “surface” fancy, but I’ve found over the years that’s been beneficial in quality and durability. I’ve taken all three dashes apart, I don’t find the Ford loose or poorly built… and I feel it goes back together more complete using more screws than clips or pins as the Ram (and Jeep).
      But it’s All based on personal opinion: The Seats wider, better support (for tall guy), a lot more comfortable and doorway opening is larger providing easier access. Dash layout is more functional and the use of knobs & screen for common controls is more duplicated. The ability to easily add additional electrical gear is much easier in Ford SD’s due to wiring harness layouts.
      You have a F350 Platinum… The Limited has a full suede roof liner… speaking of roofs, the Full Length Sunroof beats the little Portal Window easily. The Visual of more leather doesn’t make it more quality, Those extra pieces of leather surface is glued to plastic. The Ram’s sexy hips of the Dually is great, but I’ve gotten to where I like the more muscular squared F450 hips. I ordered my ’24 F450 Limited in Sept ’23, it’s due in next week. While I was waiting, I looked at several Ram Limited Dually’s in lots… drove a few but decided to wait like so many others for the SD’s, despite the large inventory of 3500 Dually's, the features and function just didn’t compare to the F450 Limited… I’m looking forward to passing the Ram 3500 Dually down to Nephew… I’m sure he’ll think it’s the best.
      It’s all personal… I feel the Ford Interior in design & function is better… others go with Ram or GM. Hope you enjoy the F350, they all cost too much nowadays to regret a purchase.

    I love my MY23 Ram 2500 HD Rebel with 6.7 Cummins; it fits my needs and works for me. The interior is a big step up from the 1500 Silverado ZR2 I came from. I'm not so certain on the GVWR and load rating numbers on the stickers; I think it may be more of a DOT thing and less of an actual capability thing, but I don't plan on getting close to those numbers so it wasn't an issue for me.
    For me, the crew cab and bed length size is perfect and it fits in my garage; that was a big factor in my deciding on my Ram over a GM or Ford. I had a Ford Super Duty Tremor on order but came across my Rebel HD at a great price, and went with that. The Ford Super Duty (or the GMC AT4X HD like you have which is probably my #1 overall choice) I would either have had to back in the garage or parked it outside in the hot Texas sun, which I'm not a fan of.
    If you need more room in the cab, get the Mega Cab, and if you need more room in the truck bed, don't get those Ram boxes. I'm sure a new ZF trans and high output 6.7 Cummins will be enticing, but with the Bank's Monster Ram Air intake horn, cold air intake, and boost pipes, I wouldn't be interested in doing that again just to get a different trans.

I’m more worried about getting into gear than having the smoothest shifter out there. Folks complain about having a heavy duty drivetrain on a heavy duty truck.. maybe people are buying the wrong truck. And under a load it does shift quite nice. 81k miles on my 21 and it’s just getting started. I do think they got carried away with prices over the last couple years.

    A Ram 2500 diesel is not the truck to buy if you plan on towing heavy. It hasn't been since they switched to rear coil spring suspension. You do get a much nicer unloaded ride compared to Ford or GM. The best option for a Ram 2500 if you plan to tow is to get the 6.4 Hemi. You gain almost 1000 lbs in payload from that alone. My 2020 Ram 2500 Longhorn with the 6.4 has 3047 lbs of payload. I tow an almost 10,000 lb 31' travel trailer all over the place, through the mountains, all over the east coast, with ease. Or Ram is smart and knows that Rebel HD buyers dont care about towing and payload, but certainly care more about having access to the Cummins and offroading credentials, all with a good riding truck that yes, comes at the expense of payload and towing.
    Even better knews is you can get $12-$15K off of these trucks right now. So no, its not the new kid on the block but it does represent a solid case for itself. I dont care that it doesn't have a huge cab or a 3" longer bed. What I do care about as a guy that uses his truck for actual work: Good brakes, excellent exhaust braking, available factory rear air suspension, amazing towing confidence when loaded heavy(wonder why there are so many 3500s hot shotters?), and current tech. Them updating the transmission will be amazing to really to keep the CTD in the meat of its power without fall off associated with the Aisin(w/o a tune).

      That's always a danger with big corps. When it starts to look bleak, they start counting beans. Ask me about the wonderful transmission in old Jimmy's late 90's where they bean counters said, hey you can put a plastic part in and save a few cents per unit while the engineers said, excuse me? Beancounters won, the transmission's started crashing and burning at about 36K and they covered it up even the the interwebs told the world what a certain code meant in conjunctin with certain symptoms in the tranny. If you moved fast upon noticing it was only about 1500 to fix it, while if you went a bit further, it was a new transmission. We managed to off load that one during cash for clunkers as it just barely made it to the lot under its own power the requirement for trade in.
      When the bean counters win, usually a brand loses. R and D, forward thinking and new technology is what wins... So many great products have been destroyed by bean counters running the place...

The off road user wants a truck with softer springs that flex better off road to maintain traction during articulation. The unfortunate thing is a person needing a truck for hauling can’t just assume it’s up to their needs due to it being a 3/4 ton class truck. The upside is for the right buyer it’s a great off roader.

I average 10-11 mpg towing a 43ft Fifth wheel. Going up hills here in CA I get 7-8mpg. From what I read even with the new 10 spds, the mpg is still in the 11mpg range. If that is true then what is wrong with the current trans that Ram is using in the HDs? Also just checked out my buddy's 2024 GMC Denali Duramax, that interior still does not have the quality feel, fit or finish as the Longhorn trims in Rams. Just my opinion. Just got home with the RV and love my truck even more, good drive, comfortable. I have the standard Cummins not the high output but had no issues keeping up with Rams and Ford heading up to Lake Tahoe.

    Ford & GM just barely caught up cab wise recently with the new platinum Ford & ultimate GM & Ram was light years ahead of them as far as cab & interior as far as payload that's easily remedied with helper springs use the as needed take em off while ya don't for ride comfort which Ram had them both beat for a while thing is all of the big 3 are great & if not for Ram Ford & GM would never had stepped up as of now ya can't go wrong on any of the 3 I love them all for different reasons

    This is great news for me... I still have no reason to replace my 2005 RAM 3500 dually G56 6sp truck (with only 161k miles). I think it's time for some compound turbos...

    Ram has to fix the gas pedal location issue. They need to put more 6ft4 and 8ft beds on the dealer lots. I am also concerned about the 2 part frame. Can the frame carry a slide-in camper? I only want a mid-sized slide in but I don't want a dooley. My choice is a single wheel 3500, long bed with a hemi. If a new truck isn't available with the features I want I'll go south get a used one and have it overhauled. Even if I have to buy a Chevy and put a Hemi in it.

      I have a northern lite 9-6 (mid sized) and have upgraded to a 5500 after I had two wheel stud (or wheel) failures over the last couple years. The first one I made a video on it’s somewhere on my channel.
      Just something to consider: you’ll be over GVWR before you know it and SRW trucks hauling mid sized or larger TCs are a liability. I really need to make another video soon and it’ll be about that.

    I look at it differently. The longer they keep them the same, the longer there will be rows and rows of them all the same in pick n pull so I can keep it going forever.

    I don’t care about any of that stuff yall are talking about!! I guess that’s men stuff! I have been driving ram for over 15 yrs! I love my 2014 1500 hemi. I bought it as a birthday gift to myself in 2015! I have never had any problems with it till this yr. Never had to put in shop for anything but a couple recalls n keeping my oil change on time!! I love it! The only complaint I have is the backseat space and it’s uncomfortable for passengers. But it’s just me n my dog most of the time so I’m ok with it!! Ram don’t get caught slipping!! I love you!❤

    The mega cab should add the extra space between the doors instead of behind the rear seat

    Just a question bc I see a few ppl towing big campers with 3500's. But complain a lot about payload and sometimes trouble towing. Why y'all don't go or use the commercial side? Like the F600 crew cab? Seems like that will slove most of the towing problems. We use them but with dump bodies since we deliver dirt,gravel, sand, and mulch. I've seen ppl with large campers using those types of trucks or tractor styles, and never complain about weight, payload ect

    I noticed that the mexico built 3/4 tons have alot of small mfgr issues on fit and finish while the union made 1/2 tons dont. The tail gates are misaligned on over 50% of the HD rams i looked at. None on the 1500s. The weather stripping on the cab is perfect on all 1500s ive seen. The HDs are misapplied, cut short or not tapered properly.

    For Standard Output Cummins, leave it where it is they can put 400HP and 1,000 pound feet of torque from the past 5 years ago. Lets wait and see if they can update the SO Cummins.

    I have a 2019 Ram dually with the Cummins. My biggest complaint without out a doubt is the turning radius. JD from Big Truck Big RV questioned the Bosses at Ram about it. They dodged the question. They need to turn like the Ford 450

      He said the 6.4 will still be in the line up at least for next year... I bet they are working on the HO Hurricane as a replacement or maybe the new multi-fuel 6.7 Cummins. I did a bit of research on the ZF Powerline transmission about a year ago as it was entering the pipeline and so far it appears to be as reliable and a bit better than the older ZF that is in so many vehicles.

    JB Reviews The new Ram design is why the truck is selling. You don't change nothing. That's not broken. You just don't like it and that's fine, but I'm telling you. People who don't like rams are liking them because of the design. Soccer mom's. People who are uninterested in things like these are buying these trucks. I know cause I work there buildings I never seen anything like it
