You prolly dont give a damn but does any of you know of a trick to log back into an Instagram account? I stupidly forgot my password. I would love any tricks you can give me
@Brady Torin i really appreciate your reply. I found the site thru google and im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. I see it takes quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
Thank you very much for your time in making this Video. I have a Fat Bob for some time now, ( my second), and my wife wants to get her own bike again. She loves the 48 but was worried about the small fuel tank. You have provided the solution. Thank you again from Texas.
Hi don. Thanks for doing the video, very helpful! I have a 2014 72 sportster with the 2.1 gallon gas tank. I put a 3.3 gallon tank on from a harley 883 and fits great. Ran into the same problem with the over flow hose but it's up and running just fine. Glad I don't have to stop for gas as much now.
Beautiful '48. I've considered the same upgrade. That tank looks natural on your bike. I don't need the extra fuel all the time but I also don't like the painted metal gap on the 2.1 between seat and tank. Well done!
It's just the original seat recovered with brown, slightly mottled looking leather.. Something a little different to all the black seats and contrasts quite nicely I think - but that was the work of the first owner and he did a great job. Cheers Mate !
Awesome video Don. Editing & presentation is outstanding along with the clarity and simplicity of instructions. I'm inspired now to arrange the purchase of an 883 tank for installation on my 48. Good to hear a Kiwi accent all the way from Onehunga after living in Oz for the last 10 years. LoL Cheers
Thanks for the compliment - yeah ONEHUNGA is great - live a 2min walk into One Tree Hill / Cornwall Park. It's hanged a lot in 10 years and I've been here for 30. My son Thomas is the editor / director / producer - I think he does a great job too ! Cheers.
Don King, thanks for this video! I'll be powder coating my tank soon and was curious how easy the pump comes out. You've officially set my mind at ease!
This has given me the confidence to go get an aftermarket tank, get a custom paint job and swap it myself avoiding the "Harley premium" at the dealership!
Thanx for your vid. I have 48 and just bought a Iron gas tank to use on it. I will put some other color on during winter so for now I will just use it and se if it don't leak. Thanx for the tip on the tube for over flow gas.
Good old Kiwi ingenuity, well done mate. Have been thinking of buying a 48, but the size of the tank worried me. You have now inspired me. Cheers, Laki
You won't be disappointed with a 48 - even though I am now going to a Fatboy ( my wife bought me one - amazing but true..) - the 48 will all remain for me one of the most fun, robust bikes out there.
Hey Christopher - Nothing was wrong with the fuel pump - it was just a really tight fit - made worse by the re-spray paint around the edge. It will come out and go back in, it just depends on how ya hold your tongue ..
Cheers Ricky - it's pretty easy to do , just work your way through it bit by bit. The trickiest part was getting the bloody pump out .. Yeah she's a great bike & an excellent ride. Thanks for watching.
Excellent tutorial thanks a lot. I am looking at bring in a 48 and like you am not a fan of the peanut tank, looks and mileage. So I checked out J&P cycles in the states and they do a 4.5 gallon for that is meant to fit the sporties without too much hassle. It has the mileage and looks I'm after. Thanks again, got this saved for future use.
Mr. King - thanks very much for posting this. My local HD wants "3 or 4 hours of labor to do a tank swap" (says the parts guy) @ $110/hr. I told him to go pound sand. You've proved it is pretty easy when you have the right tools. I'm swapping to a HD 4.5 gal, and it gives me good reason to swap my seat as well. Thanks again!
"I told him to go pound sand" - ha ha - man if your ever down in New Zealand give me a call and we'll go drink a few beers !! I'm contemplating a new vid with my latest bike a 2013 Fatty - same issue a small job and I queried the local dealer and it was ridiculou$ - so I've never done wiring before but I'll give it a go - if I screw it up THEN I'll take it to the dealer - take care bro.
Great video that's what I am thinking of doing to mine I do a lot of long journeys and having to top at 70 miles is a real pain the trouble I have is the peanut tank does look so cool but I guess the extra miles is worth it. great bike buddy keep up the good work I will keep watching your videos.
Changing out my 48 tank to a 4.5 gallon. This video was a great help, thank you! My tank will be wider...I'm wondering how much this will affect the bottom mount mirrors? Not excited about switching them around as I like this mount style.
the fuel line can simply be cut to measure then add a dot of glue to the out side of the fuel line tube and it's good to go for you to put the fuel line original adapter back on 👍
Great video, beautiful bike - thanks for sharing! Question, do you recall what size is the overflow fuel line that you bought at the opposition? 5/16 or 1/4 size?
There's no gasket Rob - the base of the pump acts as a seal / gasket and it's a really tight fit. Regards the fuel line I suggest you just purchase some fuel line and route it through where the original one was. Good luck mate your 72 looks great !
Thanks for putting this video together. I have it saved for future consideration. Can you please tell us how long the new fuel line segment you cut ended up being? I appreciate your response. Great bike-fearless wrenching.
I have an '06 1200 Low (carbed) and it has a much larger stock tank than what you are putting on that 48. J&P Cycles has a 4.5 gallon tank for $200 that will fit the 48, and give you a lot more range. It's not the peanut style, looks more like a fatbob tank with a center gas filler. But for me, I'm willing to sacrifice a bit of looks for more range, as I live in the AZ desert, and gas stations can be few and far between.
Absolutely no clearance problems Peter - thanks for the comment & compliment. I'm considering what next to do - on many levels - probably a seat change ... I do like your idea on the rims though, that'd make it "pop" !! Cheers mate.
Thanks mate, yeah looking forward to riding it heaps this coming Summer. Ya never know I might see you riding the Fatboy, will make sure I give ya wave.
Great vid. Is there ever a problem with fuel leaking from the pump? I wouldn't like fuel dripping on5o motot! What sizes do peanut tanks come in? Cheers
Awesome bike, great video. This is so close to the style i want. Bigger tank, white walls, brown leather. I'm just not sure what color paint i want. Would love to know what is the biggest tank available that would fit, without looking too stupid?
Nice looking bike! Job looks easy enough to do. I didn't notice any gasket between the fuel pump & tank, what keeps it from leaking or did I miss something? Can you just cut the Harley overflow shorter with a tube cutter & stick the flexible line back on? JP Cycles sells a 4.5 gal peanut tank on line that's what I'm getting for my 2013 Sportster 72. The 2 gal tank isn't enough! My bigest problem will be matching the big red metal flake hard candy paint job I think
Thanks for the video, i'm just going the other way around, i have a sportster with the big gas tank and i bought a 2.1gal tank to fit on my bike... since i don't have to do long trips, it will work just fine and at the same time will please my eyes a little more hehehe...
Hi Don, great, nicely paced instructions there, and a really lovely take on the 48 as well, The old tank was nice but the wine red and silver is very tasteful and suits the bike too. Did you have any clearance problems on full lock with the drag bars and the standard tank? One thought, just shooting the breeze, but to reflect the colour of the tank stripe and decal in the wheels rims in powder coat would look stunning with the white walls! Thanks for sharing. All the best from the UK. Peter
I haven't watched the full video yet, but I'm thinking of painting and badging my peanut tank pretty much exactly the same as yours. Do you still have it, and are you interested in selling? Thanks.
Hey, great video. Just wondering what was done to get the dent out of the tank. I've got a much smaller dent on my iron (from the flipped mirrors) in the same spot. Is it possible to reach it and tap it back out from the fuel pump opening on the bottom?
cousin on the other side of the pond "good job" Does Harley use a different paint scheme and different seat color where you are at? Or did you do all of the change outs? You made the swap look so easy, what size tank in gals. and what type of Harley did it come off of? If you don't mind me asking?
nice vid, didnt waste heaps of time on stupid details. looking to upgrade the tank on my forty eight and always nice to see someone else do the brain work before I attempt a project.
Great vid and the mods on your bike are awesome. The only issue i have is the same always having to fill up. Thanks for the Vid I want to do this upgrade eventually.
Don King Thanks mate - ha ha, a couple of people don't like it apparently, make you wonder why though - is it the lighting ? the dialogue? The fact I'm just so good looking??
Hey Don. Firstly, great bike and excellent video. One question for you. How much gas did you leave in the tank? Did you just run it dry or siphon it out?
I ran it as low as practical - it still had a litre or so in it when I took her off - don't worry when you remove the fuel line only a "drop" or two will come out (@ 7:09). Before you remove the fuel pump, get a bucket - remove the cap - turn the tank over the bucket and empty the remaining gas (into the bucket) - you can of course reuse this gas if desired, but my bucket wasn't new and I wasn't about to put possible contaminated gas into the Sporty just to save $2 - it was ALL fresh gas on start up. > Hope that helps mate & thanks for the compliment. Cheers.
Don King Perfect. That is what I was thinking about doing. Thanks again for the help and the great video. I plan on tackling this in the next couple of days.
hey my friend, when i put the pump in the new tank, do i have to get a new gasket, or theres no gasket at all, just the screws, with fuel sealant, thanks
would that tank fit on a 2012 Sporster 72 ? we ride around the island of Cyprus and Moto Vlog and its just not practical with his small tank riding up into the mountains!
Thanks mate - I think so - however my wife ( 'her indoors' ) wanted to ride again with me, as my leg injury -(the reason initially I purchased the 48) - had improved to a degree .... so she bought me a 2013 FATBOY with only a couple of hundred Km's on the clock. For a while I had two Harley's and I was still taking the 48 out for exercise - but all things come to an end and I sold the 48 to a great couple from down the line - I know she's gone to a good home.. As for the fatty - I've just replaced the pillion seat, installed a removable sissybar, docking system, relocated the rear turn signals, spliced the wiring, installed an Auxillary brake light system and replaced the standard signal lens with some old school ...and that'll go to vid when I get round to it.
+Nick Martinez Gidday Nick - All up it was about $250 - the ding removal was $100 - the paint job - which was really well done was the balance. To be honest I don't think the painters had many bike tanks through for painting - so treated it as more a project for the senior apprentice to show his skills..under the watchful eye of his boss - hence the low price - normally it'd be double that at least.
Good video Man..I got the 2015 Forty-eight with the Hard Custom Candy blue tank..I love the color and the tank but like you I want more mileage out of this tank. After watching this I can see that the Iron tank looks cool on the 48 but Im now worried about having to settle for another color as the current color will be hard to replicate! What to do..P.S-Choice Onehunga T- shirt Man!
Hi A.T. - No gasket required mate and just spray the outside - mask off the base where the fuel pump goes in (covering the edge where it seats) and where the gas goes in and any other inlet & it's good for a respray. The tank I replaced hadn't had this done properly so the spray was inside - thick around the edge - thats why it was a pain in the arse to get the pump out as the clearance is minimal.
What was the dimensions of the new fuel line u had to get? Just bought a 3.3 tank for my 72. Just worried more about the diameter of the line being correct and not to big or to small
Gidday Steve - sorry mate just saw your message - maybe you've got it sorted by now - but all I did was take the original bit of line with me - visually find some fuel-line of the same internal diameter and bought a couple or so feet of it for a few dollars. Once I was satisfied it fitted on - I used a small hose clamp to ensure it was all securely held in place and of course I cut it to a suitable length. Goodluck.
Don can't tell you how much I appreciate your response. Bike looks beautiful too. Still haven't done mine yet because I am waiting to get the new tank painted. But again appreciate your response and ride safe.
Not bad - the option of course is to do the "sensible thing" and mount them on top of the bars - but I just check 'em - look over my shoulder and keep movie' on.. Ride safe bro.
Hey man, recognized the kiwi accent! Great to see a kiwi from down the road from me, looking to do this on my 17' 48. would like some advice. any contact details?
To "oldpieceoflooseass" - Really??? “Sportster are for pussies” - Ouch I’m sooooooooooo hurt. Is that the best Trolling insult you can come up with ?? Mate, I’ve read that same shit before … unoriginal & really lame… duh - makes me wonder why you’d seek out a vid obviously dedicated to Sportster owners - I reckon you secretly covet sporty ownership BUT !! If that’s what YOU really believe to be true - then you’d better rush out and buy yourself a Sportster, because if “Sportster are for pussies” then you are certainly more than qualified to own one.
Don King there ain't nothing wrong with a sportster. Nice bike they are quick fun and a good price that won't kill your bank. And you can modify sportster to look fuckin awesome too !
Yep - it's at the end in the credits - one sweet lady stateside - Sally Hardison - Facebook.com/sallyssigns - I really highly recommend this lady and the quality is excellent.
I have a 2017 Forty Eight ..2.1 tank ..way to small going to do the same as you putting a 3.3 made for my 2017 so I hope my lines fit thanks for the video
Mate, you'll do fine - good on you for giving it a whirl - it makes a huge difference. Just remember the fuel pump is in there really tight...just take your time and eventually it'll come out. If you have a short fuse like me , just put it down, have a cold drink , breathe and come back to it. The same goes for installing the pump into the larger tank. I took about 30mins getting the thing out of the original tank and 10 mins getting it into the new tank. Just take your time and it will be cool. Good luck.
This video has motivated me to go and buy the 48, thank you Don, you have lifted my soul. Three cheers to you.
Did you buy it?
@@FuckThisShitMane hey, no I bought a Iron and later a Roadking.
You prolly dont give a damn but does any of you know of a trick to log back into an Instagram account?

@Brady Torin it worked and I finally got access to my account again. I am so happy!
Thank you so much, you saved my ass!
First time I have come across one of your videos. Really well done, nice clear instructions and I liked the wee recap at the end. Bike looks great
Thank you very much for your time in making this Video. I have a Fat Bob for some time now, ( my second), and my wife wants to get her own bike again. She loves the 48 but was worried about the small fuel tank. You have provided the solution. Thank you again from Texas.

Great video Don. Bike looks stunning. Where did you source the Harley Davidson decals from that you have on the tank?
Thanks for the video! About to swap mine for a 4.5. Main thing Im concerned about is leaking from the gasket around the new tank.
NLRKralc can i get a photo of your bike with the 4.5 on it i am fixing to buy a 48 and not sure how it will look thanks
Hey Christopher - Nothing was wrong with the fuel pump - it was just a really tight fit - made worse by the re-spray paint around the edge. It will come out and go back in, it just depends on how ya hold your tongue ..

It looks amazing. Great job.
This is awesome. I'm definitely referring back to this vid whenever I upgrade my tank :) Thank you Don King!
Cool - good on ya mate :)
Thanks, Don! I used this video as a guide and swapped my Sporty tank with no issues
Sweetas - good on ya Mickey - glad to help - but YOU did it. Congrats.
Great video, thanks for sharing bro.
Happy riding
Thanks for this very helpful video. This is one of my future project on my 48.
No worries mate - go for it !
Looks great ,Thanks for posting .I have a '12 ,model 72 ,same problem all the gas stations in my area know me by name .hahaha
Ha ! yeah bro - I was on their Christmas card list ..
I have a 4.5g tank and mirror didn’t fit bottom mounted miroir with stock bar. I installed mini apes and they’re back downward
The best explained video to remove tank. Thanks a lot 😬👍🏼
sweet ride fella , great vid , hope your still enjoying your time with your bike
I like the whitewalls and spokes. Stylish.
the fuel line can simply be cut to measure then add a dot of glue to the out side of the fuel line tube and it's good to go for you to put the fuel line original adapter back on 👍
Great video, beautiful bike - thanks for sharing! Question, do you recall what size is the overflow fuel line that you bought at the opposition? 5/16 or 1/4 size?
Good idea with the zip-tie on the battery cover! Mine's popped off a couple times already.
gatorhunter1 Yeah - I love zip ties - cheap and save a shitload of money if you have to replace that side cover..
There's no gasket Rob - the base of the pump acts as a seal / gasket and it's a really tight fit. Regards the fuel line I suggest you just purchase some fuel line and route it through where the original one was. Good luck mate your 72 looks great !
Very nice bike mate.. like your video .. thanks for that
Thanks for putting this video together. I have it saved for future consideration. Can you please tell us how long the new fuel line segment you cut ended up being?
I appreciate your response. Great bike-fearless wrenching.

great video thanks and the tank looks great.
Great vid. Is there ever a problem with fuel leaking from the pump? I wouldn't like fuel dripping on5o motot!
What sizes do peanut tanks come in?
Cheers
Love what you've done - it looks choice!
Fantastic!! You are a legend
Awesome bike, great video. This is so close to the style i want. Bigger tank, white walls, brown leather. I'm just not sure what color paint i want. Would love to know what is the biggest tank available that would fit, without looking too stupid?

Great job man, looks sweet!!!
Thanks you Don, I will do the same for my 48..
Same tank as what's on my nightster, just wished that HD would put a lower center of gravity tanks on the sportys
Thanks. Link is on the sportster forum in Holland.
You'll be right Jamie .... take your time and enjoy the longer rides between fill-ups !
Thanks for the video, i'm just going the other way around, i have a sportster with the big gas tank and i bought a 2.1gal tank to fit on my bike... since i don't have to do long trips, it will work just fine and at the same time will please my eyes a little more hehehe...

thx, you rVideo will help me to chanche the tank from my forty eight. I have no expericence, but with your help it will work!
Hope it went well. Cheers.
What ever happened to that 4.5 gallon roadster tank? That would be my choice. Bigger is better. Why not go for the most you can get?
Looks awesome! Great instructional video. Thanks.....
Thanks mate
I haven't watched the full video yet, but I'm thinking of painting and badging my peanut tank pretty much exactly the same as yours. Do you still have it, and are you interested in selling? Thanks.
Good video well explained in detail thanks
Hey, great video. Just wondering what was done to get the dent out of the tank. I've got a much smaller dent on my iron (from the flipped mirrors) in the same spot. Is it possible to reach it and tap it back out from the fuel pump opening on the bottom?

Hi! Where did you find those side HD 3D badges for the tank? Thanks!
looks better and more gas good decision
I agree there's less of a gap from behind the gas tank to the front of the seat now.
Looks Good! How many miles to a tank of gas compared to the peanut tank?
Great mod ! thanks for sharing.
Hey Don.
Nice bike. May I ask you what brand/model of bar is installed on your 48?
nice vid, didnt waste heaps of time on stupid details. looking to upgrade the tank on my forty eight and always nice to see someone else do the brain work before I attempt a project.
Thanks mate.
now thats a sexy loookin bike, nice job mate. thinkin of gettin me a sporty, but at 6'1 i affraid i mite look like circus bear. CHEERS!
Loved the video extremely helpful. If you're interested in selling those 48 badges, or swap for stock 2012 badges let me know bud. Bike looks great. 👍
Looks great!
Bike looks great!
Nicely done
Great vid and the mods on your bike are awesome. The only issue i have is the same always having to fill up. Thanks for the Vid I want to do this upgrade eventually.
Thanks mate - good luck with it - it's as easy as the vid.
Don King Thanks mate - ha ha, a couple of people don't like it apparently, make you wonder why though - is it the lighting ? the dialogue? The fact I'm just so good looking??
What bag is that? I'm looking for one for my 2015 Iron 883. Great video by the way.
On the pipes did u take it to harley for the stage 1 install or u did it yourself ? For the vanes n hynes ?
very helpful video Thank you 👍
Thanks for this dude, guess what I'm doing Sunday! ha ha!
You won't regret it bro - just take your time and you'll be sweet. Cheers.

I wanted to get the 883... But now really considering the 48... Anything to comment on this? I want a blacked out, fierce, FAST bike.
hey my friend, when i put the pump in the new tank, do i have to get a new gasket, or theres no gasket at all, just the screws, with fuel sealant, thanks
would that tank fit on a 2012 Sporster 72 ? we ride around the island of Cyprus and Moto Vlog and its just not practical with his small tank riding up into the mountains!
I got a 2014 883 iron with dents in the gas tank. My question is how to get them out?
Beautiful bike!!
To be honest I don't think the painters had many bike tanks through for painting - so treated it as more a project for the senior apprentice to show his skills..under the watchful eye of his boss - hence the low price - normally it'd be double that at least.
Alright thanks man I really appreciate it.
nice colour!
Proud Onehunga Boy!! A good paint shop should be able to match. Chur.
Trey Gowdy Sorry Man I traded it in for a Wide Glide..
another helpful vid thanks man! lovin the onehunga tee..haha
Great Job.
Hey Don, Did you use a gasket between the pump and tank? Also when they paint the tank do they paint the inside as well as the outside?
How's the tank-to-mirror clearance with the bigger tank?
Not bad - the option of course is to do the "sensible thing" and mount them on top of the bars - but I just check 'em - look over my shoulder and keep movie' on.. Ride safe bro.
Hey man, recognized the kiwi accent! Great to see a kiwi from down the road from me, looking to do this on my 17' 48. would like some advice. any contact details?
Nice video mate. Cheers.

Really???
“Sportster are for pussies” - Ouch I’m sooooooooooo hurt.
Is that the best Trolling insult you can come up with ??
Mate, I’ve read that same shit before … unoriginal & really lame… duh
- makes me wonder why you’d seek out a vid obviously dedicated to Sportster owners - I reckon you secretly covet sporty ownership
BUT !!
EzEddie i brought the sportster because it looks good, unlike the big twins which are engraved with 'only for old fucks'
i just got my 48 3 weeks ago, and a thing is sure that ain't for pussies.... nice rough and mean bike!! LOVE IT!
Also is that after market decal painted on the tank or is it a sticker? Do you have a link to where I can buy one?
Yep - it's at the end in the credits - one sweet lady stateside - Sally Hardison - Facebook.com/sallyssigns - I really highly recommend this lady and the quality is excellent.
Hi Don, Where did you get your seat cover?
Good luck.
I had no idea that modern harleys are no longer gravity fed. Geez I must be getting old.
Looks hot 👌
well done!
Hi Don im about to do the same thing with my sportster 48, what exactly was wrong with the fuel pump?
