My Trail 90 came from the factory with a nice metal aux fuel can, which is still being used, over 50 years later. The Rotopax wish that they could be that good.

I went with the individual fuel bottles, so this evaluation was good to see. They allow you to distribute your aux fuel weight as well, and they are easy to pack without a specialized solution. Besides the N&R sacks featured, those standard .9L MSR/Primus/etc fuel bottle also fit perfectly into one of those larger Agri-tubes we all like; with room for a rolled ring of shop towel as vibration support in the cap. If you use an unleaded-fuel burning stove, you will also have plenty of fuel to burn. 👉🏼And great job new/additional guy!
Am I interested in carrying auxiliary fuel? No. Am I ever going to ride off road? Also no. Did I still very happily watch the whole video because the content is always interesting, informative and entertaining? Of course!!! Excellent, as always, FortNine.
I love that he showed the different tanks with an older bike!! I have a1986 Yamaha xt350 & a xt600 and they are still awesome for how old they are Thanks for the Videos
I've used an MSR bottle in a schedule 40 PVE tool tube for 10 years as my main backup fuel supply. No spills, no problem and very inexpensive. On longer trips I use a 2 gallon HDPE gas can that's mounted to my single-wheel trailer. No spills, no mess. Both are much less expensive than any alternative, and invalueable when traveling in the Western U.S. Total cost for both options: under $100. (less the cost of building the trailer). FWIW I used the same 2 gallon gas can on my Zuma 125 mounted to a homebuilt rack that cost less than $30. Yes it was sillly to add extra fuel to a 100MPG machine, but I hate waiting in lines. +100 for the Big Lebowski clip.
I've always said that I don't care about my fuel efficiency in terms of $/km, but I kinda do care about it due the reason that it affects my range for a given tank size. It's not that hard where I live to start getting a bit of range anxiety and worry that you won't make it to the next petrol station. Good to see the options that are out there for auxiliary fuel.
So much of this depends on the bike. A one gallon rotopax fits perfectly behind the right pannier of my Yamaha Tenere, mounted directly to the pannier. Out of the way, no hassle, easy access to “burp”.
Great addition! You guys are really what I consider (and that is not an insult) the Top Gear (Clarkson, Hammond, May) of the Motorbike video world. Hope you will be able to keep on going with these videos.
Excellent video, informative and enjoyable and it didnt feel like you were trying to read Ryan's word while keeping true to the channel. Great work, looking forward to more content
I've been using the Armadillo bag for about 2 years now, I have the 2 gallon size. Has come in handy way too many times... for other riders and cagers. I've given up my sweet nectar for others frequently. 10/10 would recommend.
I've been using various size RotopaX tanks for years now on both ATV's and motorcycles. At first I really disliked them because of the EPA spout however I replaced them with a different type (RX-SP-VENT) and I couldn't be happier. I fill them up in town and place them in the car and you can't detect a hint of fuel odor in the vehicle at all. I rate them 5 stars.
If you want to go smaller, I've been having really good experiences with the large size Seafoam cans. I didn't even know they made that size, saw it sitting on top of the trash can at the auto parts store and gave it a shot. Fits right in my CamelBak and gives me about 50% more than my bike's "reserve" switch.
Just ordered a 20l jerry can yesterday that i plan to splice in to my fuel line just like you showed in this video. Thanks for showing me how to do it !
Enjoyed the video, well done. Fuel tank size is an issue, isn’t a pain with manufacturers trying to beat each other on weight and ditching fuel is one way to do it - at the expense of usability. Best mod I’ve made on my Yamaha R1M, an endurance tank from Beater of Japan. Yes it cost more than my first motorbike, but life is too short to spend time at petrol stations.
New guy is definitely growing on me. This is F9 quality and the uptick in release schedule is much appreciated. Nice to see some gear review and shorter videos as well. Still hope you'll do something like the Ishmael video again, that was what reeled me into this channel.
For those who use rotopax and hate the safety filler: rotopax wants me to tell you that they absolutely disapprove of you using the water spout on a gas can, despite it working perfectly.
The way you complained about rotopax reminds me of a 90s infomercial 😂. “Are you sick of caring fuel, the old fashion way?” Bumbles around with a Rotopax and blows up. They’re definitely not that bad and for sure the easiest for not spilling fuel. If you know how to use that type of spout it’s actually amazing. Flip it over, put the lip on the edge of the hole, then let gravity do the rest. I’ve got one of those giant loop fuel bladders I still need to test. I’m interested in how that works.
Gatorade bottles work fine for a day or two if you're just worried about making it to the next stop. Laundry detergent jugs if you think you need a lot. Otherwise save the bottles next time you change your oil. Lots of ways to not pay for extra fuel storage.
Lovely how there is not a comment in sight about the subject. I'll ad to the subject: had a primo 1l gas can for years on my bike, never used it. Stranded once without gas, the 2nd day I had a new bike and had not placed the gas can om there... Had myseld stranded for a full 5min (felt like 20minutes!😂) before some stranger noticed my distress. Have a 5l gas can in my car. Never needed it. Now I bought the lightest gas can out there: it's the placebo one. Works a wonders, again never needed it. I'll ad to the nonsense: this is the 49th mechanic, if the first 48 won't work out, you seriously think this one is a keeper? Never minded waiting a year or 2 for a video. I'm used to this, I'm old, im still subscribed to communitychannel. And am happy with the upload rate of BadObsessionMotorsport
Thought about rotopax for giving my WR250r extra distance (aside from the 3.0 gal IMS tank), but the giant loop bag and that bottle method seem to be good alternatives. Thanks!
Great info. Just getting into adv riding, and even when I would ride trials on my old DR500, I would have this same issue. Going for the bag and the bottles. Thanks again.
The whole time I’m thinkin “hmm I might need one of these” then I remember I have a 5 gallon tank on my Goldwing that doesn’t go any where that there isn’t fuel readily available
I ran out of gas in mountains. I thought I was screwed. Luckily, a subaru drove by within minutes and they had a 2 gallon gas can. It had one of those knobs that you had to press on the tank to hold open or hold it with your third arm while it drained down your sleeve. I took about a gallon of gas and gave him a 20 for his help. It was more than enough to get me back down to the next town to get fuel at a hundred year old Conoco. No lie the building is from the 1800's. The gas was fresher. They even turned the pump on first and let me fill up. It was a trying time that day. Now I am going to take one of those bottles with me everywhere.
i'm somewhat new around here, while i absolutely love ryan and his presentation format this is also a very welcome addition (in my eyes). i don't own a motorcycle or ride but this guy seems just as knowledgeable as ryan and this is very informative and helpful, as far as i can see.
I loved the roll gas bag, which I've used many times. That said it reeks of fuel. You need to make sure you don't put it directly against something you don't want it to reek as well, so I have some extra mops in between. If you haven't used one of these do not forget you can not bring it in the room or it will reek the entire room of gas. It has to stay outside.
I like the bottle solution, 1 liter will get me a little over 50km, and the primus bottle also works with my camping stove. So it is basically my cooking fuel but also a reassurance for if I would run out of powah juice
Metal fuel bottle is by far my choice. I have them already for camping. I’ve never had one leak. I can easily store them on the bike or in the garage and they are perfect size for my scenario. If you wonder about getting one just think how much you’d pay for extra fuel when you are a few miles from a gas station.
I'm becoming concerned about this "tab" you speak of. ~RF9

This packed a ton of good info in a short video. Nice work. As long as Ryan's still around I have nothing against other hosts.
I love these type of vids
I'm yet to be disappointed by this channel! Thank you, guys!
Completely agree! Great point! That's great you bought an endurance tank 👍
Great job rockin the Aerosmith suit. Love it.
nice to see new face!
keep it up!
Outstanding options review!
New guy is definitely growing on me. This is F9 quality and the uptick in release schedule is much appreciated. Nice to see some gear review and shorter videos as well. Still hope you'll do something like the Ishmael video again, that was what reeled me into this channel.
Perfect timing, just got a WR250R and was trying to sort out a fuel solution. Thanks for the mind reading guys!
This guy's great!
Just love everything that comes out of this channel!
Just be careful if you ever have to get on a BC Ferry. They're keen on approved fuel storage.
Good point, they can be anal about that. Keep fuel containers out of sight.
This is appreciated. More content with the same keen to detail and integrity is always a plus.
This guys great, as much as I love Ryan I'm all for this sort of content. Nice one lads.
Gatorade bottles work fine for a day or two if you're just worried about making it to the next stop. Laundry detergent jugs if you think you need a lot. Otherwise save the bottles next time you change your oil. Lots of ways to not pay for extra fuel storage.
Where is Ryan ?
Think it’s great you-all expanding the channel. Two massive glove thumbs up!
It always makes me laugh that Americans are trusted to own assault rifles, but can't be trusted to not spill gas 😂
We cant own assault rifles
No such thing as an assault rifle.
@@RezaQin assault rifles are a thing...the ar15 isn't one
@@RezaQin trust an American to miss the point
They can't really be trusted to own semi-automatic rifles either though.
Now I am going to take one of those bottles with me everywhere.
who are you, where is the hot guy?
i'm somewhat new around here, while i absolutely love ryan and his presentation format this is also a very welcome addition (in my eyes). i don't own a motorcycle or ride but this guy seems just as knowledgeable as ryan and this is very informative and helpful, as far as i can see.
i'd also love to see them together in a video, bouncing witty remarks off each other... we'll see how that goes if it ever happens
WHO ARE YOU, ATLEAST INTRODUCE YOURSELF LMAO. -edit: good job tho :)
Love the new host, he maintains the established vibe of the show while bringing his own personality and charisma
This guy is not the guy.
Who is? Im looking for the guy
My wife n I tour on Sportsters and this will greatly help me keep up to her with the smaller tank on mine. Thx
So glad to see this subject addressed. I'm planning trips and the knowledge saves me money.
I say the more the merrier! When it comes to quick-draw, witty hosts that is. A welcome addition!
Another F9 host that scores 10/10. Rock on!
Metal fuel bottle is by far my choice. I have them already for camping. I’ve never had one leak. I can easily store them on the bike or in the garage and they are perfect size for my scenario. If you wonder about getting one just think how much you’d pay for extra fuel when you are a few miles from a gas station.
