Thing is Gordon "near enough was good enough" when it left the factory. So now, all these years later, you will come up against a few problems, being as how you want to get it a perfect as you can.
Hi Kenny, generally you can reuse shims assuming they aren’t damaged. Sadly there aren’t a selection of shims of different thicknesses around. It is possible to buy shim material, so if you wanted, you could make some replacements. But if the old ones are complete and straight, you can definitely re-use them. Hope this helps 👍😉
Hi temotu518. It has been a while since we worked on the brakes, but I do recall questioning this myself at the time. I reviewed the footage from when we dismantled the brakes and confirmed that the cam was behind the cross-shaft. However I remained unconvinced. I have subsequently done some research and can confirm that you are right. The cam should be in front of the cross shaft. Sorry if this has caused confusion, we need to get back to the brakes and do a followup video when we will replace the brake shoes as well. Thank you for watching our videos and for highlighting this error, I hope the videos have helped in other ways. 👍🏻😉
@@WaterhouseForde thank's for prompt reply......made me laugh as I went thru exactly the same, I am now an expert at swapping them over, thank's again>>>
@@temotu518 I'm working on a Ford 8n with a Ferguson rear end. Trying to figure out the brakes. Do you have any pictures on how the cam and knuckle should go together? Also does the rod pull the brakes or push them? Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Malcolm, yes we always have to remember the age of this machine. In most cases, it worked just fine for decades as it is, why mess with it! 😉
I cannot find different thickness of shims for the axle to set the bearings. Did you buy new or reuse the old?

@@WaterhouseForde thank you for your feedback. I found some shims made for 35 that should fit my TEA.
Should not those rear inboard brake cams be swapped around with cam to front????
