  • The Brakes on the Ferguson TED20 need to be overhauled from time to time. As we're restoring the whole tractor, in this video we run through the process of reinstalling and setting up the brakes.
We hope this will be helpful to you as you go about setting up or overhauling your brakes. This is applicable to most of the TE series, although the earlier tractors did have a Kidney Cam mechanism instead of the Floating Cam style seen on our tractor. If you have this earlier Kidney Cam arrangement, message me and I will try to describe the differences as per the Service Manual.

Thanks for posting this, ever since stripping my brakes down and cleaning and rebuilding I've had a jerk when I brake. Will do them again properly now.

Well done! Very well explained! Years ago (when knights were bold) we had a large inside / outside measuring caliper that gave us a rough starting point for shoe adjustment (regardless of truck, automobile or agricultural tractor). The best equipped shops had "shoe grinders" that mounted to the spindal or axle and 80 grit sanding disk -- the grinder followed the 180 degree arc (top, then bottom) to ensure as close to "round" as possible. Your work is extraordinary!
    Thank you!

Great video but I thing there might be a little mistake.
The weaker spring has to go on the bottom shoe, so the master shoe runs away from the anchor pin and the slave runs against it, so you get a servo effect and you have to make sure that the master comes in action first. The movement of the drum will catch the bottom shoe first and that one will engage the top one even more with the movement of the adjuster. Btw, even the manual says nothing about how far the selflocking nut on the centraliser pin has to go. They say 2 to three turns and later that the washer should be turned by had, a wide range of options😜 Great video👍
    Cheers, Dirk

Hi Dirk, thanks for your insight I knew I had a 50% chance of getting it wrong 😑 🤣. I will check it again and correct it during the reassembly after painting. 👍😉
Yea the manual is helpful but not always entirely complete 😂

Those brakes are more complicated than the ones they used here in the states.
