  • Today we're designing and 3D printing a Pico ITX case for my Rock 5 Model B so that it is better protected to run as a desktop computer. We'll design the case to be 3D printed with some laser-cut clear acrylic side panels so that the Rock 5 B is still visible.

Excellent foundation for adding more features (antenna sma bulkheads, camera/display/40-pin cable slots, nvme access door, etc.). I learned to use a soldering iron to set the bushings and appreciated you being able to go straight to the nvme for the debian install. Very classy design with innovative on/off switch design and a suggested fan power bypass.

Another Nice Case Michael. For me, i have had my NVME in/out so many times, easier access would be great. Add a Programmable 0.96" OLED and a 16 x WS2812 Addressable RGB LED strip and i'm sold.

Great video! There is a small suggestion, but don't you install dust protection on the cooler?

Do you know if there's a design like this for the Orange Pi 5 Plus? I love this case.

I haven't made up a case like this for the Orange Pi 5 Plus but I could look into it if there is interest in it.

i would add a duct that leads the air from the fan to the heatsink.

    Hi Michael!
I would like to ask you if you could show how to install 2 fan on a single raspberry pi 4b. Which pins should i connect the second fan or how can i get it to work?

    • @MichaelKlements
      @MichaelKlements  ปีที่แล้ว +1

There are multiple GND, 3.3V and 5V pins, these could all be used to connect a second or even third fan to a Pi

Could u make a microsd slot to swipe in ? Since many of things before nvme is up its easyer to flash to microsd for experimenting would be awsome if you could remix it for also?

It sounds like you're from SA, if so, where do you get all of this stuff? Would love to know about the threaded inserts specifically...

I'm from SA but live in Sydney, so it's easier to get imported parts. These brass inserts are from Aliexpress, also available on Amazon

Great news is that You switched to such great SBC which is Rock5b with much faster RK. I hope we will see more interesting stuff on that.
Case looks great like all your projects, I love those materials. But design is terrible :(
    1. There is no need for big fan and heatsink. Its not pi, not that much heat.
    2. Vertical design with this heatsink is not great idea, also You should put holes on top, not on sides
    3. There is already pwm fan connector on board, take a close look, it takes small ziff and will turn on fan when needed at right speed (and noise)
    4. Access to emmc and sdcard is rather bad, you may need that trying other OS.
    5. There is still plenty of space inside, that case may be much smaller, you could add some oled screen, wifi or native sata - there is plenty of things to do on front m.2 e slot.
    6. Hdmi input is completely blocked :/
    7. For memory intensive task You may need to add smal heatsink for second RAM chip.
    8. Holes for ports are bit bigger than needed, this may be cased by the way that board is installed. This makes airflow different for sure, probably nothing near nvme,
    9. Some dust protection may be also needed
Original radxa case or the one from kkbs metal cases acts as big heatsink, are much smaller and should be more comfortable. This one thanks to glass finish gives more options for some screen, but for now looks too empty and probably at least cooling should be redesigned. Why you even did not stretch it to board width so there is no empty space near power button?
Thanks for sharing this, now lets see ver2 or completed project with more things inside.
You can easily make this way smaller, my idea is to use turbine fans and heatpipes, they are easy to bend and very efficient. I'll not do pro video abot that like yours but this may be interesting thing for you too :)
