I'm glad I'm not the only one wondering where the update video is to this project, it would be nice to see it back to it's full glory with the new engine.
A small displacement, high-revving V10 is brilliant! This is going to sound unreal when fired up. Neat thing is that while you folks are doing this crazy high-tech build (and love that there will be kits too), another TH-cam mechanic "Uncle Tony's Garage" is doing a crazy retro-build where he's put a Slant 6 170 in a Miata. Pretty amazing how versatile the Miata ends up being for these sorts of things.

Man you're lucky to have someone so experienced walking you through like that on something like rust repair..I can't even find someone I trust to do my car
@@harrypestell4440 you definitely have it easier than most of Europe, they'll let you do a lot if you can afford the registration, insurance and certifications. Still worse than here in NZ, though. We really can get away with nearly anything and they'll still register it, although you can forget about affording insurance but luckily that's not mandatory

This is simultaneously the most interesting and the most pointless build that I've seen in a very long time. If the goal is to be unique, I don't think that you could do better than this.
@@simpleKyle A V10 with 200bhp and unknown reliability is pretty pointless when you compare it to other available swaps. Not to mention that the price of the swap is unknown and the subsequent maintenance and parts are a bit questionable as well.
Ah! So you don't actually know about cars? I see... There is a lot of science behind why you are wrong but I'll stick to the main points. First off, it's 200 bhp out of the same displacement and foot print as the stock motor that only had 140ish at most depending on model year. Second, more pistons means more torque. Liter to liter a V8 will always produce more ft/lbs than a 4 cylinder and a V10 will make more than a V8. Third, 12,500 RiPpiMs is a LOT! Which means a much longer power band, and more powers under the curve. Which also means you can run super short gearing letting the engine work less to get to speed while still having plenty of gear to drive on. Most importantly, the sound. Have you ever heard a V10 before?! Lastly, Ferrari. Lamborghini. Mercedes. Formula freakin 1! I think there might be a reason why most of the fastest/expensivist/ highest performing machines ever built used 10 cylinders. Or 12. Or 16.
Thats a stick in the eye for Aston Martin with their Valkyrie, Mercedes with its Project One, GMA and the T50, because this engine will exceed 13,000rpm where as their engines are limited to around the 12000rpm mark!
@@terot8341 well in the day to day driving i will choose 9k rpm 240 hp engine, rather than 13k rpm 200bhp... The cool factor and bragging rights will not be present but it that is not top trumps or some forum battle or fundraiser
In another video, they said that they could make these engines with different amounts of cylinders. A V8 based on this in an AE86 or an MR2 would be glorious.

Mazda do not seem to care about corrosion. NB was even worse than the NA. Even the ND has missing anti-corrosion treatment near lots of the fixings and joints.
He says the whole point of this is to have us believe we can build a v10 miata. Then has a f1 engineer build it for him while he washes a Ford focus. 😂
The sheer amount of rust damage cars still get in the UK keeps surprising me. Here in Italy, since galvanized 'shells became the industry norm, rust has all but disappeared. Yes, even from Alfas and Lancias ;)
more modern vehicles don't really suffer, unless they've suffered damage. These old MX5's were always bad for rust, and a lot of imports in the UK are much worse after their first winter lol
Coming from the Southern USA beneath the snow-line were I can buy 20 or even 30-year-old cars without a single speck of rust, and easily remove nuts & bolts that have not _'fused themselves'_ to the car, well, if I were you, I'd come here to shop for my old cars!!!

Its not just the revs. My guess is that the flywheel is not going to be a big one so this is going to react to throttle inputs like a motorcycle engine. We're probably talking Lexus LFA throttle response. Hope you've got a digital tacho lined up.
Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Now they want to slow down all the gas station fuel pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime.:-(

There must be an obvious reason? But why a TWIN supercharger? It is a 180hp 2 litre engine? Going with a positive displacement blower it would only need to be like 800cc to be able to make some decent boost.
Would love to have this as a kit powering all sorts of fun stuff. Imagine a BMW 2002 or a MB 190 or a old Alfa Giulia/GTV with this! Or even better, Ant Ansteads new Tipo184 kit car based on mx-5 chassies!

This kind of clear, empathetic instruction is absolutely fantastic and is 100% why I watched this vieo start to finish. The guy, Mike is a really great communicator (and knowledgable) and it would be great to see him instruct on more videos. Also, the presenter is an excellent 'student' and represents the viewer's (possibly) inexperienced viewpoint on this topic who brings us along with him. Lads, I'd love to see more of this specific, detailed, type of skilled work on your channel from time to time. Thanks!
It costs huge money, you rolled the car into anywhere else but a high end fabricators that you're friendly with, they'd tell you to tow it to the nearest scrap heap because its utterly stuffed. I'm kinda guessing Mike doesn't do his own oil because holes that big aren't just something which happens overnight and you'd have to be blind not to see them just doing a basic service
There's the old saying about "If you have to ask...." Consider that a Flyin Miata or V8Roadsters conversion usually runs $50k turn-key using an off the shelf engine with cheap, available parts and, well, the total here is A LOT.
As an Australian, it is horrific how much rust cars get in the UK. Unless you drive on the beach, the most people usually see is a little surface rust. Even in cars from the 1960s and 1970s.

How much does all this work cost? I get quoted over a thousand dollars for an air-con compressor which seems simple in comparison.

Yes but this is a very unique small displacement V10 from a concept car that never hit the market, far more interesting than just slamming a normal V10 in there.
