Let me tell you a true story... In highschool at a combine he ran a 4.24, the guy told him that he wouldn't record that time, go back and run again, the second time he ran 4.32. His speed wasn't manufactured speed, it really translated to the field... It's sad that he's not inducted yet, his numbers say he should be in and he's every bit as good as any back that's inducted. Jacksonville never won a superbowl. I played backup running back to Fred in high school and he was a cheat code before the term became a thing. 6ft 210 and running a sub 4.3 in highschool..... He was bigger than me but I had to be his fullback and I didn't mind one bit.

55 missed games due to injury and still passed Earl Campbell on the all time rushing list. Emmitt Smith misses 5 games. If Fred Taylor had half of those missed games back, he would be inside the top 10 and on his way to Canton, OH.
Plus when he was most i jured it was early in his career, which so happened to be the best Jags team/roster. Jags had a dominant oline early in his career and he would get to the 2nd level and it was game over.

Fred never got the publicity hype of a big market, so he was overlooked. Sad but true the PR machine was lacking in Jville. Maybe it would always be the case since we were/are the national writer's stepchildren. The man himself should be a 1st round HOFer..He had almost Deon speed, not quite, but he was muscular, had power, shifty feet, and speed to outrun everyone but the best corners. 80 runs always seemed like he makes one miss, runs through another tackler, and then it was a footrace between the opposing lighter fast 4 db's and Fred in a race to the end zone, which Fred usually won, even after just running over people. He is the prototype of the perfect back. I've seen few better going back to Sayers. A CLEAR cut hofer.

I remember Taylor at Florida & in the league with Jacksonville. He was great in both places,but he missed a lot of games because of injury. The HOF voters are holding that against him is the only reason he's not in the hall in my opinion.
