As a kid who grew up loving the bears, I really didn't know what I was seeing when I watched Hester. Now I fully realize just how incredible he was. Welcome to the HOF, my favorite bear of all time. You earned it.
There's something about that Chicago#23, thank you Hester, YOU ARE RIDICULOUS! Thank you for all the memories. You carried my childhood and I loved watching you every Sunday!!!!
I watched his whole career in a special time of my life… he is a unicorn and that era was more joy than heartbreak, even though we lost the SB in 2006, we all know who had the best team… magic and Anytime was legendary, IS a living Legend.
The one at 4:08 still amazes me. The punter makes every effort to punt away from Hester, he's surrounded by Vikings players, and still takes it all the way. It's like no matter how teams prepped for him, he still had a chance to make you pay.
I'll never forget the legit confusion in that announcer's voice when Hester was at the OPPOSITE 30 in that Denver game (5:28). He KNEW Hester was headed to his second TD that day, with 70 yards to go. Hester just flummoxed people. He bamboozled you. He was an offense unto himself. And the way the Bears blocked for him was beautiful - Brendon Ayanbadejo, Hunter Hillenmeyer - dudes went full tilt.
HOF, about damn time!!! 1 of 1 greatest returner man to ever play. Coach Prime even said he was #2 to Devin. Congrats Devin. Whole heartily! Thank you so much from making so many years watching my Bears exciting. Oh btw, your right. At least for me, when the kicks and punts occurred during your time, bathroom breaks were not an option. Your induction made the die hard truly happy. No one more deserving imo.
You can't deny it though, his speed and vision with the cuts he made were unnatural. Dave Toub was a great coach, using starters on the kick teams is unheard of, but Hester was RIDICULOUS.
as someone who was born in 1995 hester might be one of the most important bears in me developing my fandom. happy for him. thanks for the memories hester!
Slippery as an eel. Great to see them lol. Kudos to his blockers for being with him most of the time. The ones against GB are especially satisfying. Congratulations to the hall of fame. We miss ya in Chicago.
So glad Devin finally got in. A true Hall of Famer Devin Hester is. He was long overdue. I don't think you can compare anyone that electrified the game like he did. That's why opposing teams were afraid to kick to him. He deserves it!! You left out the opening Superbowl kick return.
This guy is the best return man I have ever seen and I have been watching the NFL since the late 60s. The dude had the perfect balance of speed and vision. Great video. I'm glad they put him in the HOF because if you are the best at your position and that's all you played, just judge him on that alone, and he was the best at returns.
He is the kind of player the hall of fame is made for. It is not for "stat kings" only. He changed the game. Definitely changed the Bears for a few years. And out of all NFL stats, his record of kick returns for TDs is probably the one least likely to be beaten. The rules have changed to all but eliminate kickoff returns. For player safety is what they say. I can't say the stats aren't there, but I have been watching the NFL for 41 years, and I very rarely saw serious injuries on kick returns. People get obliterated on over-the-middle passes, QBs on blind sacks, and routine tackles where players on the same team make awkward contact.
Congrats on the hall of fame! Absolutely deserved and one of the most incredible special team players ever. Cemented as the goat because he was so good they had to change to rules to stop it. So happy for him
I wish they showed more camera angles like 5:26, where you can see the entire field (so you see what Hester sees when he catches the kick). Unbelievable that he can find a seam in some of those plays!!
I was so hot when he stopped returning for that long ass stint. He wanted to solidify himself as receiver or whatever it was but it was a long ass minute in his career he stopped returning which makes it even more insane!

They were actually terrible blocks. That's what makes the returns even more amazing.
When you've got a guy this tough and with this kind of breakaway speed the special teams squad is pretty motivated to work hard on returns.
