NOTE: As of this posting, Adrian only played the Pats once as a Viking, in 2010. He was suspended when they played again in 2014. In his lone game, he had 25 carries for 94 yards, with his longest being just 9 yards. Since none of those runs were particularly spectacular in any way, I chose the touchdown.

It was great touchdown anyway, a hard collision goal line effort in a big game against the pats to take the lead.

guy was inhuman. probably the best all round back ever. he packed more power into his runs then guys twice his size. also amazing footwork and speed. too bad he lost a couple seasons (disciplining his kid and injuries) in his prime. without those extra numbers i think he may fade into obscurity in the future. I don't want it to happen but i'm already seeing him omitted from top running back lists.

Adrian Peterson should've won a a Superbowl. His best chance was with the Vikings when they had Favre. Peterson was killing the run game against the Saints but he kept fumbling. Ahh. Favre threw a costly interception at the end. None the less Peterson was a rare breed man. I'm talking about since like Earl Campbell era. Just my opinion. Great video

A truly special athlete. I was a little young and not terribly interested in football when Randy Moss was in his prime. I still remember snippets of his career with fondness, mostly the Moon over Lambeau, but I never knew him as well as I knew Adrian Peterson. I wish he could have ended his career in purple, and I wish we could have put a consistent (consistently good anyway) quarterback in front of him.
Injuries took some of his prime years from him, and the years he played all the way through saw him put more mileage on his body than any reasonable human being should have to take and still be expected to have anything left. If we had put an Andrew Luck (pre injury/voodoo curse/cosmic illness/whatever he has that won't let him play), or a Ben Roethlisberger, or hell, even a Matt Stafford in front of him, I seriously think the Vikings of the 2000's are remembered in a much different light.
Yeah, I know he fumbled four times in the NFC Championship Game against the Saints the one year he had a good quarterback to play with. And yeah, he hit his kid with a switch. So he left Minnesota in a bit of a controversy. So what? So all those records, all the thrills, all the head bobs that would just spell doom for the opposing defense, all the 80 yard runs that saw every defender on the opposing team touch him at least once, if not twice, and he'd still score... So those don't count for anything?
Fuck that. I love Adrian Peterson, and when he goes into the HOF, I hope he wears the deepest shade of purple for his tie.

Just think what could have been if he wasn't the only weapon on the offense for such a long time. If he didn't have to go against 7-8 man fronts 70% of his runs he might have had multiple 2000 yard seasons, and possibly a lot closer to emmit and Walter in terms of yards. Not often does a RB carry his team in today's NFL especially to the playoffs.

      Stacking the box *helped* AP.
it meant he only had to break the wall to take it to the house. his YPC would likely have been higher if he hadn't had to face so many stacked boxes, but i feel he would have had less yards.
he would get lots of 3-4s and then break off a 50 or 60 yard TD. if they hadn't stacked the box it would be more like constant 7-8 yards.
VIkings would probably have won a lot more because you simply can' stop a drive giving those yards per carry up. .

There's only two guys I've ever seen who could make a 5 yard run look amazing and that was Barry Sanders and Adrian Peterson. Barry was more about agility, Peterson was more about just violence and refusing to go down. He was uncanny at turning a 1 yard loss into a decent gain.

2012 Adrian Peterson is goated for RB’s. Especially when you consider he had total knee reconstruction surgery just 9 months before opening day. You also have to consider that his QB was Christian Ponder and for that year Ponder started all 16 games and had under 3k yards, 18 tds and 12 ints on 62% completion percentage. Teams were LITERALLY stacking the box with 8-9 players consistently on every down because they knew how one dimensional that team was and he STILL was only 7 yards short of breaking the all time record(which he WOULDVE gotten if Zimmer wasn’t coach). The last “non-quarterback mvp” we will probably ever have. What a special season that was, single handedly carried that team into the playoffs. Take a Bow Adrian “All Day” Peterson. Kids today don’t know how TRULY good you were. MVPeterson!

That run was better. I would have probably included, but my file from that game is very low quality. The one I did had a lot of significance though. The Vikes were only up by 3 and were heavy underdogs in that game. That run set up an Adrian score a few plays later that basically put the game out of reach and leading to a win against the 10-4 Eagles.
