#jomtien #jomtienbeachpattaya #jomtienbeach #jomtienpattaya #pattaya Thailand is a retirement paradise but it's not the right place for some people. In this video, I dive into why it may not be for you.
You give 5 reason why you shouldn’t retire in Thailand but I can give you 100 reason why you should. You need to come up with a better five reasons besides weather and brands.
The points you make are valid. My advice is if you are still at home and any of the points raised concern you stay at home. Most of the points raised will apply to any forien country.
Been here for 3 years. Thai people are great. Happy friendly. Its perfect here, really haven't seen any crime. Woman beautiful and you will live alot better on social security, probably 10 to 15 times better
Thank you, this is a practical guide on what to expect in Thailand and why some people (Westerners), would not like it there. I'm lucky having lived in other countries, and I've never been homesick. New subscriber!😁
1)i love hot weather 2)I don't get homesick....I get sick of home! 3)My home city is one of the most expensive in North America..i can make due with what they offer 4)90% of the drivers here are angry and hang on their horns... 5)I love thai culture!!!!!
I live in Thailand yes it is hot but you have to give up something’s to enjoy this life style. I’m happier here yes traffic crazy but no one here getting carjack or shot while driving. The saying you have to give a little to get a little. I’m a retired police officer I Feel much safer here than the USA so I’ll take the heat.
@al1here I know living there is different then visiting...I spent a month there.....I hope you are enjoying a relaxing retirement! I'll join you soon... It's hard to sort out where..I am a beach lover...just need somewhere that is not to chaotic and has enough to keep me busy.i love city life but I want to hear waves and crickets😝
Very reasonable list. None are negatives for me as I live in a hot humid part of Australia and am a loner who doesn’t need western comforts. Frankly, the West has gone to crap. I’d only add the visa drag. It’s doable but a little annoying l. Good vid, mate. I’ll watch more.
Hey the algo sent me and I am not dissappointed. Mate this is a great video, I live up the road from where you shot some of this and will be back there in May.
You make important points to consider when making the jump to Thailand, but then between each warning is a clip of paradise with a beautiful lady which dulls the intake of the points. It's like "avoid eating too much chocolate, it's bad for you." Then that's followed by a clip from a chocolate factory where chocolate is poured over caramels - it dulls the chocolate warnings :D Good video though.
No, that's not the vibe of the video at all... Love the place. But it's not for everyone. Have a video coming up about all the things I love about Thailand
very true, just found your channel, I have been coming here for 25 years and will be retired here in a few more years, I wish it was sooner but I am doing the hard yards now to have the retirement I want later.
Since you put this video up the temperatures are consistently over 40, every day ,sometimes late 40s . As you said it's always hot but now stifling . Many poeople died of heatstroke already and add pollution into the mix. So your first warning is very appropriate . You're not advised to be outside, restricted inside with aircon . It's a bit like covid lock up situation This is the hottest part of the year,3 to 4 months . Fair warning! .
There is good and bad in every country I know from friends living in Thailand from Australia they are happy with the health system and living costs and their kids going to school
Health Care quality is great here. Had some serious dental work done, they did an amazing job. 1/2 the price of Australia with no drop in quality. I love the weather.
Love Thai culture, my wife of over ten years is Thai. Worst aspect of living part time in Thailand, and surrounding countries in all directions, is the horrendous air quality. That never gets easy to take unfortunately. Seriously, be prepared, some days are obviously better than others, but it’s almost always in the poor quality ranges. China is a gigantic culprit, and getting more so.
This is for Alex not for you guys. Sorry for the misunderstanding 🤠 cheers. The whole Asia is getting worse with pollution. Wear mask when you go outside where there are a lot of traffic like Bangkok.☮️
@@philipnguyen3107 I agree, it’s really a growing problem and no end in sight. China’s goal is to create one coal burning power plant a week (not a year) for the next 25 to 30 years. No amount of electric cars will counter that amount of soot and pollution. Unfortunately that air pollution doesn’t respect country boundaries, so everyone will suffer. Asia as a whole needs some corrective measures, as does the rest of the world, but China is going to ruin any efforts and progress made by its neighbors. All the best.
@@robertwilkinson3990 It is not only China but Japan and Brazil and America and India are all offenders. Solar energy is the best solution but too much 🤑🤑🤑on the table for oil and coal.💯👍🙏
Haggling is accepted as usual it's,south east asia. Just farang toutists compare most things to yhings from their home countries and don't. That's OK if uoud on holiday when you live there haggling is a must.
Mate ! you're from cold old Melbourne . We're from tropical far north Queensland . I think i'd survive . You're right - Thailand is NOT our country but considering the stupidity here in poor old Straya , moving elsewhere would be a good thing . Home sick ? yeh , you're right - that would be a factor to consider . My advice - try before you buy ! Live there for a year - see how you go . Thanks for sharing .
Every dollar you bring into Thailand will be taxed by Thai authorities. Maybe the target isn't US or other free spending tourists, maybe it's Chinese tour buses or Russians who don't want to fight, but your cost of living just went up double digits. They don't want $1000 retirees, would you? Maybe once they get to 30 k required for a visa run tourist they'll start backing off. And the global retirement visas - is that an accident, or a destination? Sure, they'll back off as revenue collapses but the handwriting is on the wall.
Much more to say about Thailand... As a foreigner you are always second or third class people. The ownership is against you - you cannot own land, business or a house 100%. A lot of rules concerning employments. The rule 49/51 % is against equality with the Thais. Other aspects languages and culture. How many times misunderstandings come about? How many foreigners know about Thai laws? It is a country with often shifting laws. Last things happening does not serve foreigners. All parts of Easten Asia have similar laws for foreigners from Japan to the Philippnes. Foreigners cannot own land. Strange many countries in the West can offer us to buy land, run a business. own a villa/bungalow in all 100%. Thailand is a going on a tour... Living fully is hard, many years in the country still keeps you on a tourist level....
A couple more. Don't retire in Thailand because you're unhappy with your life and think you're going to reinvent yourself. Reinvent yourself first. People who run from their problems tend to leave a forwarding address. If you run to Thailand to avoid your problems you'll still have the same problems plus some new ones. Don't retire in Thailand purely because you think it will be cheaper. Yes it is, but not that much. People who basically live at the poverty line in the US or UK think they can live the high life by moving to Thailand. They are always disappointed.
Thanks for the comment. I've got a video coming up about my Thai language learning and the dumb mistakes I've made so far. I'm not fluent yet but doing my best. Coming here I was determined to speak the language. The video will explain why...
Be more accurate with your new channel. A buffer for instance, I am arriving in November to retire early. I will not receive my U.S. social security for 8 years, but selling my house and with my 401k pension, I will arrive with $400k U.S. with zero income coming in for 8 years. So please don't tell everyone they need money coming in good sir. Love your channel so far
I probably miscommunicated in my waffling. My key point really was about not coming in underfunded. Thanks for the comment. Sounds like you have a solid foundation for a great retirement here.
I think it is a good idea to consider your budget, and also good that this article points this out as some people get overexcited about moving house to another country and forget the fundamentals. Why do you object to this?
I get home sick for thailand, and I am from the US

All good points, although I've never understood people who travel to foreign countries and expect life to be exactly the same as their home nation.
Sadly lots do.
look at all the English-style bars and the neverending search for the cheapest tinned bean breakfasts.
Ha ha, you give 5 reasons not to retire to Thailand. And then show that beautiful girl.... No contest.
Didn't we go to Banchang together a few months back?
Why would you retire to any foreign country and expect it to be like your home country…?
Many saps do.
Very good start.
Appreciate the comment. Thanks
Another negative look at Thailand to garner views? Every place on earth has pros and cons. Thailand has far more positive points than negative.

Because no TH-camr wants views ever! I love the comments section.
TBH this is better than the everyday Pattaya Soi 6 walking tour videos. Great video and yes Thailand is a beautiful place but it’s not for everyone.
I don't see this as negative at all (that's your own mind playing tricks on you.

I don't mind the heat but is it humid?
It sure is, but I think it's something you can get used to.
I noticed every car on the roads seems like it's not older than a couple of years and huge, how does that work if they are more expensive there?
Cars are a subject for a whole video. Locally manufactured cars are reasonably priced. Cars not manufactured in Thailand have massive tariffs.
There is good and bad in every country

In my experience, Thai vendors do not like to haggle on price at all. Found the same thing in Brazil.
