Fun fact: The speech Blofeld gives to Bond during the torture scene was lifted almost 100% verbatim from the first non-Fleming Bond novel, Colonel Sun, written by Kingsley Amis.
I’m glad you guys seemed to really like Chris Cornell’s song the most. I feel like his song is the most underrated of Craig’s Bond Themes. That said, “Skyfall’s” theme song by Adele is the one that I think is the best one. Do you think you two can rank all the Bond songs after you watch “No Time To Die?”
I read the original script for this movie like a year or two before it officially came out. There were several drafts and each draft's third/forth act (The Spectre HQ and London Sequences were all different.) For starters, in prevous drafts Blofeld was a much better developed character and wasn't Bond's official step-brother. In the draft I read, when Bond and Mandeline get to Blofeld's lair, after the whole computer control room sequence it leads to them playing a card game with Nuts that Bond and Blofeld played as kids with their step-father. There was no torture sequence originally. Blofeld explains that if Bond wins the game he'll let only Mandeline live but if he loses then both of them will die. During the game we get a lot of insight into their upbringing and how Blofeld watched Bond play this card game with his Dad Oberhauser. Blofeld was jealous and wanted to prove he coulld be just as good as a player so he practices it until he eventually takes on Bond with his Dad watching but Bond still wins and humilates Blofeld in his mind. He makes that the excuse for why he killed his own parents. BUT Bond then drops a bomb-shell and reveals that Oberhauser and his wife were simply people who looked after Orphans and that Blofeld wasn't his real son but that his parents were romanian spies who were killed by their own government when they were found out and Blofeld watched their executions as a child and Bond calls him a "Cuckoo". Blofeld wins the game in present time but Bond uses the explosive watch to escape. When they return to London there's no Bond teaming up with MI6 and friends. It just starts with C trying to activate nine eyes and Bond already waiting Casino Royale Intro style in his office. He kills him and then Blofeld revealed to be alive after the watch/base explosive causes a black-out in London with only the MI6 building still alit. Bond heads there where he has to rescue Mandeline just like in the finished film except when the helicopter crashes on the bridge, Blofeld walks out with a limb and kills several police officers who come to investigate the crash. Bond chases him up to the bridge and both have a shoot-out with Bond wounding him and walking away after he lets him live. M, Moneypenny and Q meanwhile just gather a bunch of veterns for a showdown with Spectre that never happens. In other drafts after Bond escapes from Blofeld in the base, he and Mandeline use the control room to contact Q who with Bond there uses him as a link to hack into Spectre's HQ systems and cause a self-destruct from all the way at home using only his laptop which would have been a reference to something he said back in Skyfall. The whole link with the other villains was also explained better with it being revealed that Le-Chiffre from Royale was Spectre's Money-Handler, White/Greene/Quantum being the Second In Command and Silva from Skyfall being Spectre's IT Specialist. The rings they all wore/wear is made from the material that comes from the Meteor located in the Spectre base. The original Spectre Meeting also had Blofeld speak entirely in German before switching to English to address James personally. When Bond confronted Mr. White there was extended dialogue revealing how White meat Blofeld back during a war and how Blofeld was a ruthless killer. Other drafts had Q captured by Spectre at the HQ with Bond, Q and Mandeline escaping together. At one point Monica's character was going to be revealed as a villain too but that got cut/changed in rewrites including M originally being revealed as a badguy working for Blofeld. He was going to play the role C ended up playing but Ralph Fiennes is it? made it clear when signing up for the role that he did not want to play a villain in the future so those plans got dashed and C was invented for that role. Overall, there was alot of changed things from the final draft to the final screenplay that they used with the only real improvement being M and Crew confronting and stopping C. Every other change was a huge wasted miss. The original Card game and previous villain roles and original Blofeld backstory should have been kept. Instead the fillm just fills so meh after what we got with Spectre. The action sequences feel tame, lifeless and very low stakes with the Opening being the only real crowd pleaser. Monica is wasted. Mr. Hinx is a fun henchman and the Train fight is cool but his character is wasted too and should have made a Jaws style return at the end. And the love story between Bond and Mandeline felt so forced. When people compare Spectre or Quantum together, I always go for Quantum because at least that has high fast paced action, a good soundtrack and a fun female lead and it doesnt' feel boring. Spectre feels like a movie that someone didn't want to make and it shows. I have no problem with it connecting to past films but the way its done just felt choppy as hell. Its a film that could have been more but for whatever reason it got butchered in the writing and its not like the writing is even that bad. Its just the last third of the film doesn't hold up at all and instead of trying to be a action movie comes across as a poor man's love story scaled down version for On Her Majesty's Secret Service.
I just watched Spectre yesterday at the Royal Albert Hall with a live orchestra. It was amazing. They were celebrating 60 years of Bond. I think Spectre is my fave Craig Bond film.
The MBB 105 is actually capable of doing a full loop. It's one of the only helicopters that can do it actually. There is a Red Bull acrobatic team that uses them to do all kinds of crazy flying maneuvers.
Fun fact: The day of the dead parade at the beginning of the movie was not a real celebration & invented by movie writers imagination. That was not how Mexicans celebrate Dia De Muertes. But the prologue scene was so popular that starting 2016 Mexico has been celebrating the holiday this way.(except in 2020 was cancelled for obvious reasons.) So yeah this movie literally added a new lore to a Holiday IRL.
Hi holden and Jen. I treated a friend of mine to this movie for her birthday one time, and she covered her face on one of the scenes. The song they play at the beginning of spectre is one of my favorite bond songs. Spectre is one of my favorite bond movies. You and Jen are awesome and amazing. Love your videos and channel.
this is the movie in craig's run where the plot starts to get sloppy, they try to retroactively tie everything together into a larger over arching story that they clearly didnt have in mind at any point prior to the making of spectre
Only reason they did that is because they finally resolved the rights issues regarding Blofeld and SPECTRE with the McClory estate. I was actually looking forward to seeing Blofeld on the big screen again but they seriously blew it and wasted the acting talents of Christoph Waltz in the process as well.
@Holden Hardman I bet Black Mirror would be an excellent series for you guys to watch. The discussions after each episode would be pretty epic, as well as the fun you would have with the interactive movie.
Completely different from these but linked by Q the actor . You would really like the Paddington films, they are family films but exceptionally well made.
Fun fact... the DB10 was developed by Aston Martin specifically for this movie. There were only 10 made. 8 of them were used as stunt vehicles. Two were kept as show cars. One of the show cars sold at auction for 3.5 million dollars.
Yes Sherlock is a must! love to see Jen react to the series and specials. Plus Black Sails would be a great reaction for both of you... after the first season of world-building, it gets really really good.
Fun fact: the main actress in this film (I forget her name) was actually in Mission Impossible Rogue Nation a few years before this movie was released. From one undercover action hero franchise to another
while some didn't enjoy this film as much as Skyfall (understandable) but I really liked it. I guarantee you will be crying during the next Bond film, and Craig's final performance as Bond. No Time To Die is amazing
The net at the end (i know, plenty of responses in regards already) has a similar use over here in the states (everywhere as well I presume) to keep hills and cliff ways from tumbling across the roads.
Blofeld was Bond’s arch-nemesis in the later novels and the 60’s era Bond movies. This film invented them having a prior connection, which a lot of fans had problems with. In the context of the Craig series, it works for me.
Yea, the Bond/Blofeld brother thing doesn't really work. I hate it personally because it makes the most significant story (On Her Majesty's Secret Service) between them impossible. That novel/film depends upon them never meeting, face to face, prior to that story. So, they opted to ignore the source material here and make them adopted brothers for no good reason. Thankfully, I loved No Time to Die and can move beyond my issues with this one, now that it's no longer Craig's final film.
It's literally the same twist that they pulled in the third Austin Powers film, only in that film it was played as a joke, whereas here we're supposed to take it seriously
29:17 As you were asking about the net, I thought I'd share... It's a preventive measure against "unaliving" ones self. It's commonly seen in prisons and those types of buildings. You can even see Bond notice it on the way into the building as a possible escape route at 28:39!
The line to bond at the end of "choose to save yourself or die trying to save her"- is A Huge 4SHADOW N 2 next film no time 2 die..they definitely kept it connected
Fun fact about the day of the dead parade in the intro. Contrary to popular belief before the film it wasn't even a thing. It wasn't until after this movie came out that Mexico actually had a day of the dead parade of that magnitude. The film inspired it.
During the chase scene in Rome, Bond briefly crosses countries when he passes St. Peter's Square as Vatican City is not only its own state but the smallest state on Earth.
I'm never a fan of the "It was me all along" sequel retcon trope but Christopher Waltz being the "me" in this case makes me forgive it completely, lol. Such a great actor and he's amazing at playing this type of role.
Funfact they had to shoot the oneshot like that because Daniel had a broken leg at that time. It would have been another fast running chase sequence with parkour.
Ralph Feinnes is pronounced RAY-f (rhyming with Safe or Waif) not RAL-ph (as in Ralph. Nothing rhymes with Ralph). I'd also love to see Sherlock on the list!
The net was there because of MI6 is a construction zone. James had an idea of where Madeline would be, as in basically as far away from where he was. Mr White was in Casino and Quantum, he was the one who set up and killed Le Chiffre and Bond captured him at the end of Casino into the beginning of Quantum
I'm excited to see how you react to No Time To Die. No Time To Die is my favourite but I've heard a lot of people saying they were disappointed with it, so I am a bit curious. Also - not a spoiler but there is a specific part of this film that made me think of Nolan's Batman, I hope you'll catch it. You have caught similar things before, so we'll see.
Blofeld and Spectre were villains from the later Bond novels by Ian Fleming (and all of the Sean Connery Bond movies). Blofeld was NOT related to Bond in either of those (I agree that by claiming Javier Bardem was under SPECTRE, it sort of weakens him as a villain and would have preferred not having that linkage). If you haven’t seen the Connery Bond films you might give them a try, classic Bond, and a more unforced revealing of SPECTRE and its scope.
I've been re-watching the films and then watching your reactions right after. Leading up to No Time To Die which I still haven't seen. I REALLY enjoyed this film more than Skyfall. It gave me flashbacks to some of the Roger Moore Bond movies. The funny and comical bits in this film are just right, and by that I mean not over the top silly.
2:23 Well, that's what the Day of the Dead is about: death isn't seen as the end but as a cycle and on the Day of the Dead the ancestors come back to connect with their living descendents. That's actually not an uncommon belief in non-European cultures and possibly also excisted in prehistoric Europe that also includes some form of belief in reincarnation. Because the idea of linear history that also includes the time after death was a slow developing one that gradually changed around the time of antiquity. For example, in ancient China, it was the belief that the dead still resided on Earth as spirits sharing the dining table with the rest of the family. Then, as the concept of history emerged, it was also the concept of Heaven and Earth (tiāndì 天地) separating the world of the living and the world of the dead.
Jen is correct, you're wrong about helicopters quite a bit. Some helicopters can do loops and rolls, if you shut off the engine or it malfunctions and the rotors can spin freely (don't know if this applies to *all* helicopters, but it does for many and most modern ones) you can still somewhat safely get down due to autorotation.
Jen is right about helicopters, they don’t just drop soon as they hit a 180 vertical. A lot of stunt & entertainment helicopters do it all the time. Even light military can if they aren’t loaded with heavy artillery or more passengers.
"You think he's going to work his whole career just to be taken out by gonorrhea?" Al Capone, one of America's top gangsters, & crime boss of Chicago for over a decade. Sentenced to 11 years. Couldn't do the 11. Got out early so he could go home to die. Syphilis was killing him.
Although I certainly enjoy the Craig bond films (because they're truly great), you can tell they're building the world as they go along. Avengers, on the other hand, plans things out in advance and you can tell that as they hint at storylines to come in their films. Spectre tried to make hugely significant connections between villains in Bond's history without really earning that or building it up in the previous films.
yeah the whole "the REAL secret bad guy all along was Bond's brother!" is one of the most cliché, cheesy reveals I've ever seen in my life. It feels like a twist written by a 10 year old for their creative writing story. It pretty much ruined this film for me since I just can't take it seriously.
I would like to note though, this is the first time really that they made a Bond actors movies all connect, or try too at least. And for the first attempt? Think they did pretty good overall. Like you could tell they wanted too with Pierece's Bond movies a bit, but didn't really have the balls to do anything significant, with Craig they actually really tried to make it one, cohesive story for the first time. So I don't really blame the little short comings in some areas, because as 1 large story, ending with No Time To Die, it's actually all quite good.
LOL Holden and Jen, it's a running gag, and plot in almost all Bond films that James and Moneypenny (Eve here), have immense sexual tension but never, ever sleep together on screen. (although there's hints that they may have had a former relationship, like actual relationship, or at the very least did "get it on" at some point in the past)
Fun fact: the helicopter in the opening scene had its rotors reinforced so that when the helicopter went upside down, the rotors wouldn't flop/sag and hit the helicopter. Pretty cool, huh?
Mr. White was the one that saved Bond and Vesper in the first movie from the villain LaShaef as he was torturing James Bond in the chair. Bond would later use Vesper's phone to track down Mr. White at the end of Casino Royale and that’s who he shoots and then says his famous tag line “Bond James Bond. In the beginning of Quantum of Solace the second Bond movie the car chase is about Mr. White’s people trying to get him back because Bond has him locked in the trunk. When Bond makes it back to MI6, Mr. White tells him and “M” that you don’t even know who we are and who’s with us and that’s leads to Bond chasing him through the streets. Skyfall Doesn’t have any the storyline with Mr. White. Instead it goes the direction of the rogue “00” agent Silva and his quest to kill ”M” I hope the reboot of James Bond that’s coming soon will touch on the very first villain of the Bond era “Dr No” and his right hand man/woman Pussy Galore.
The only mention of bonds childhood after his parents died was in casino royal, vesper mentioned he went to all the right schools wore the right clothes but with a destain that told her he was there because of someone's charity. As to the net , real buildings being demolished have them as a safety measure to stop something falling and killing someone and to catch someone who may fall , placing the explosives. They are a real thing, and yes sherlock is a must watch.
The net was established earlier in the scene (Bond looks up at it, noting its presence) and its purpose is to catch the debris of the building as it is imploded to prevent it from falling into the Thames.

Really? It’s my least favorite
@@roll14tideroll you need to re-watch it.
true love there. Holden praising Jens terrible British accent XD
But the prologue scene was so popular that starting 2016 Mexico has been celebrating the holiday this way.(except in 2020 was cancelled for obvious reasons.) So yeah this movie literally added a new lore to a Holiday IRL.
helicopters can do auto rotation and land even if their engine completely fail. so they can technically glide
Fun fact about the Helicopter… they did actually barrel roll the helicopter
Hi holden and Jen. I treated a friend of mine to this movie for her birthday one time, and she covered her face on one of the scenes. The song they play at the beginning of spectre is one of my favorite bond songs. Spectre is one of my favorite bond movies. You and Jen are awesome and amazing. Love your videos and channel.
the scene where Daniel Craig and Bautista are fighting on the train, theres a part where Daniel actually broke Bautistas nose lol
this is the movie in craig's run where the plot starts to get sloppy, they try to retroactively tie everything together into a larger over arching story that they clearly didnt have in mind at any point prior to the making of spectre
Personally I think they did a good job of tying the series together. It definitely the best era of the Bond franchise.
Only reason they did that is because they finally resolved the rights issues regarding Blofeld and SPECTRE with the McClory estate. I was actually looking forward to seeing Blofeld on the big screen again but they seriously blew it and wasted the acting talents of Christoph Waltz in the process as well.
@@OneAndOnlyMe I agree, though I still enjoy the brosnon era for its fantastical and over the top stories
This film I describe as too much
@Holden Hardman I bet Black Mirror would be an excellent series for you guys to watch. The discussions after each episode would be pretty epic, as well as the fun you would have with the interactive movie.
Completely different from these but linked by Q the actor . You would really like the Paddington films, they are family films but exceptionally well made.
I keep thinking Blofeld’s reference to meeting her as a young girl is a reference to the two of them in Inglorious Bastards
sherlock is 100% a must only problem is it requires a lot of attention to appreciate why its a 9/10 show with some episodes being 10/10
Fun fact... the DB10 was developed by Aston Martin specifically for this movie.
This is incredible!
Fun fact,
The plot of Bond’s brother being Blofeld was the same as Austin Powers and Dr. Evil being related…🤣🤣🤣
Jen!!! Get Holden a pair of color blind glasses as a gift please! I would love a reaction video of Holden truly seeing all colors
@ 4:45 There are some helicopters that are agile enough to pull off loops and rolls like that. Not many, but its for sure realistic.
Its amazing but I hate the ending I found it disappointing at the end
The net at the end (i know, plenty of responses in regards already) has a similar use over here in the states (everywhere as well I presume) to keep hills and cliff ways from tumbling across the roads.
Cant wait to see the reaction to No time to Die. Its a great conclusion to the Craig bond era.
Yes, PLEASE watch BBC Sherlock. Absolutely great series.
14:43 I am surprised that Jen didn’t say the line Holden Thomas Hartman
At least in No Time To Die they resolve the Blofeld story along with an homage to how Bond dispatched him in the novel of You Only Live Twice.
It's literally the same twist that they pulled in the third Austin Powers film, only in that film it was played as a joke, whereas here we're supposed to take it seriously
The actor who played C played the part of Private Hall in the D-Day episode of Band Of Brothers.
29:17 As you were asking about the net, I thought I'd share... It's a preventive measure against "unaliving" ones self. It's commonly seen in prisons and those types of buildings. You can even see Bond notice it on the way into the building as a possible escape route at 28:39!
Can we all say it together one time? Raif! His name is Raif. Spelled Ralph, pronounced Raif. Ralph Fiennes
"I wish they made cars look like this still" (1948 Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith). Closest we got is Chrysler PT Cruiser😭
I think that was the largest explosion caught on film , they had to do it in one take . ( without cgi )
The line to bond at the end of "choose to save yourself or die trying to save her"- is A Huge 4SHADOW N 2 next film no time 2 die..they definitely kept it connected
That's funny, I very recently started to rewatch Sherlock. Very good, highly recommend.
Fun fact : Daniel Craig broke Battista's nose during this fight scene
I will sometimes pop in my DVD of this movie simply to watch that brilliant 'one shot' in the beginning.
Funfact they had to shoot the oneshot like that because Daniel had a broken leg at that time. It would have been another fast running chase sequence with parkour.
Agreed with Chris Cornell statement. My all time favorite Bond intro song.
Me: Clicks on the video
The comments: Everyone blasting Holden on the net being realistic
I am actually living 40 min away that lake in Austria, it’s one hell of a beautiful place
"Doesn't time fly..." Good lord I love the one line zingers
Andrew Scott is amazing in Sherlock! so yes pls do see that series, also since the seasons only consist of 3-4 episodes.
Ralph Feinnes is pronounced RAY-f (rhyming with Safe or Waif) not RAL-ph (as in Ralph. Nothing rhymes with Ralph). I'd also love to see Sherlock on the list!
Something went wrong with the audio this time. A slight buzzing sound through the whole video.
You and Jen should check out the SNL skit "Today is Never Yesterday." It will address one of the questions you raised during the movie.
“It was all me, James” really gives off “It was me, Barry” vibes
I worked at a movie theatre when Star Wars Episode 1 came out. The number of times I have seen the parade at the end of that movie...
This is one of my personal favorite James Bond movies because I find it underrated!
The net was there because of MI6 is a construction zone. James had an idea of where Madeline would be, as in basically as far away from where he was. Mr White was in Casino and Quantum, he was the one who set up and killed Le Chiffre and Bond captured him at the end of Casino into the beginning of Quantum
Great reaction, as always. Yes, BBC Sherlock. YES. Please. PLEASE.
Helicopters can "glide" too btw its called Autorotation. Even with a full enginefailure a emergency landing is posible.
Roger Moore is my personal favorite James Bond
If you were intrigued by surveillance as a weapon you should see Capture, amazing british show
2:23 Well, that's what the Day of the Dead is about: death isn't seen as the end but as a cycle and on the Day of the Dead the ancestors come back to connect with their living descendents.
I agree..Chris Cornell (RIP) my fav Bond theme from "Casino Royale".
Jen is right about helicopters, they don’t just drop soon as they hit a 180 vertical. A lot of stunt & entertainment helicopters do it all the time. Even light military can if they aren’t loaded with heavy artillery or more passengers.
"You think he's going to work his whole career just to be taken out by gonorrhea?"
Al Capone, one of America's top gangsters, & crime boss of Chicago for over a decade. Sentenced to 11 years. Couldn't do the 11. Got out early so he could go home to die.
Syphilis was killing him.
They definitely did the barrel rolls and loop in the helicopter. There's some great bts online 😀
Fun fact: In the Bond series, "M" is the head of MI6, in reality "C" is indeed what the section chief is called.
25:25 I wish you guys saw the movies from 1962 to now to understand what the name Ernst Stavro Bloefeld is to the Bond series.
White. Instead it goes the direction of the rogue “00” agent Silva and his quest to kill ”M”
I hope the reboot of James Bond that’s coming soon will touch on the very first villain of the Bond era “Dr No” and his right hand man/woman Pussy Galore.
16:25 It was in that moment Holden was about to be sleeping on the couch, hahahaha.
FUN FACT: Broke the Guinness world record for biggest explosion on film
The only mention of bonds childhood after his parents died was in casino royal, vesper mentioned he went to all the right schools wore the right clothes but with a destain that told her he was there because of someone's charity. As to the net , real buildings being demolished have them as a safety measure to stop something falling and killing someone and to catch someone who may fall , placing the explosives. They are a real thing, and yes sherlock is a must watch.
