When you're a kid, it's so easy to overlook what a complete scumbag Beetlejuice is. It's kinda amazing to think that he was already toned down a lot from the movie's earlier drafts, and then absolutely baffling how they reimagined him as Lydia's wacky magical BFF for the cartoon. And then the musical kinda hits a bizarre middle-ground of both versions of the character. Like, I understand why it all happened that way, but it's such an odd series of developments.
It is extremely odd to watch it nowadays! When I first saw it in the cinema some of the aspects didn't hit home until years later. He is horrific but perversely likeable. The cartoon did make him more 'wholesome', in a way!!!
The cartoon makes it seem like the movie didn't happen. The Maitlands were the original main characters and they're nowhere to be found in the cartoon. It's like the story is the Deetzes moved into a house that was haunted by a mischievous but mostly harmless ghost named Beetlejuice, whom their sixth sense-having daughter befriends.
What a lot of people don't realize is before this, Michael Keaton was known for playing more straightforward roles in comedies (Mr. Mom for example) no one knew how versatile he was as an actor until this movie
It depends on the version you buy, on the vhs, they kept the f bomb. But if you look it up online, on the fandom page, it'll show you the difference on the vhs and dvd/blu-ray re-releases
One does have to wonder how well the original script would have been received… it was originally intended to be a horror / slasher film. I’m thankful the script was reworked into what became one of the most iconic 1980s movies.
One of the most underrated actors ever. Michael was absolutely incredible in this film. I can see why so many were sceptical of his casting as Batman but I love how he proved so many wrong. He's still my favourite Batman and always will be. He was so funny as Beetlejuice and he looked like he was having such a blast.
The cartoon sound when he takes his hat off always cracks me up. Beetlejuice with all his power is basically a cartoon character. Which makes him great. Not to mention Michael Keaton's amazing and chaotic performance.

I think Keaton was fully qualified for this role. A bit of a trivia, the hoicking into his jacket was never in the script, Keaton ad-libbed that.

It depends on the version you buy, on the vhs, they kept the f bomb. But if you look it up online, on the fandom page, it'll show you the difference on the vhs and dvd/blu-ray re-releases

This movie came on TV so much in the 90s. Always got excited as a kid when it was on.
This movie is older than me, I always loved it as a kid and it never scared me. I though BJ was funny, my mom said he was creepy🤣

One does have to wonder how well the original script would have been received… it was originally intended to be a horror / slasher film. I’m thankful the script was reworked into what became one of the most iconic 1980s movies.

One of the most underrated actors ever. Michael was absolutely incredible in this film. I can see why so many were sceptical of his casting as Batman but I love how he proved so many wrong. He's still my favourite Batman and always will be. He was so funny as Beetlejuice and he looked like he was having such a blast.

I just realized this is one of the best acting ever put on film.
The cartoon sound when he takes his hat off always cracks me up. Beetlejuice with all his power is basically a cartoon character. Which makes him great.
Not to mention Michael Keaton's amazing and chaotic performance.
