- In Tim Burton's BEETLEJUICE, the only way Betelgeuse (Michael Keaton) can run free in the living world is by marrying Lydia Deetz (Winona Ryder). While Delia (Catherine O'Hara), Adam (Alec Baldwin) and Barbara (Geena Davis) are trying to stop him, Beetlejuice is throwing nothing but strikes. Watch the classic scene from Beetlejuice (1988).
Directed by Tim Burton
Written by Michael McDowell, Larry Wilson, Warren Skaaren

I like how his "qualifications" is half just Micheal Keaton reciting his classical training in his own voice.
Aye COMEONN!!!!

His professional mannerisms, when you want to apply

Keaton’s range is just unparalleled. He alternates between being grateful, angry, sarcastic, desperate, demented, friendly, scary and so much more. Major talent
He's truly multifaceted, no wonder he got so many different and unusual roles. I wish Batman 3 had him in it.
You bunch of losers!!!! Kicks 🌳 😅

Is it natural though?
Doesn’t need to be for this particular movie
At 3:22 when Beetlejuice goes into his "qualifications" I like how he goes from the "deep" voice to the "normal" voice for Michael Keaton for a minute...
Sounded liike Bruce Wayne for a second.
3:24 3:41
And gets louder at 3:29....
I seen the exorcist 160 times and it keep getting funnier and funnier 😂😂😂😂

I love how Beetlejuice is treated like a preexisting character we're already familiar with.
Hes basically acting like a cartoon character. We all like cartoon characters. Thats why everyone likes eric andre for example, Human Cartoon
@@JinYo265 .........yes, as we all know, Tim Burton is famed for his love of anime and Arabic puns about astronomy.
As a kid I thought this was an adaptation of the tv show, so it felt normal to me.

Are you gatekeeping the name of the character when the name of the movie presents a clear alternative that most people have used for decades already?
Yeah, his name is officially and technically Betelgeuse, but the movie is Beetlejuice because that's how it's pronounced phonetically, and it's proven far more memorable, to the movie's long-term benefit. He's an iconic character who's recognized by the title's spelling.

I don't think this film needs or should have a sequel. The original was brilliant, a second can just be mediocre at best. I love the film and that's why I don't wanna see a sequel. Very few films get a sequel right after a long gap, blade runner might be one of the few exceptions.
The funniest part of the whole scene is when he is asked about his qualifications and just starts talking in his normal voice. I really for some reason was not expecting that.
I feel like Beetlejuice is qualified for the US Congress
Oh you have no idea
Overqualified.
that ain't saying much.

After watching this almost 10 times, I learned that the part with the tree falling over wasn't supposed to happen. That line really sold the moment: "Nice f*ckin' model!" I'm a little upset they cut the clip short. That line still cracks me up. 😂
And that line was intended for The Set Designer. Yet, Tim Burton found it worked well anyway that he kept it in,
I remember as a kid loving this movie.
This is definitely Tim Burton's foundation for his future work. It has that distinct look.
It's really weird but this is the first movie I ever watched when I was little and I was giggling the whole time 😭😭😭
Yep. A theme of a weird-dark type atmosphere that’s strangly wholesome with a quirky, yet amazingly iconic main character.

Fun fact: Michael Keaton improvised the part at 3:15 where he spits into his jacket and says “Save that guy for later!” . You can just see Alec beginning to laugh before the camera cuts. Keaton a genius!

I remember there was a double feature at the theater. One of the Police Academy movies and this. Watching it through the years, just shown me how brilliant it is
Keaton is the only one that could fill this role 😆
When you're a kid, it's so easy to overlook what a complete scumbag Beetlejuice is. It's kinda amazing to think that he was already toned down a lot from the movie's earlier drafts, and then absolutely baffling how they reimagined him as Lydia's wacky magical BFF for the cartoon. And then the musical kinda hits a bizarre middle-ground of both versions of the character.
Like, I understand why it all happened that way, but it's such an odd series of developments.
It is extremely odd to watch it nowadays! When I first saw it in the cinema some of the aspects didn't hit home until years later. He is horrific but perversely likeable. The cartoon did make him more 'wholesome', in a way!!!
How did they tone it down? Was he a lot more brutal in his ways?
I heard somewhere that Beetlejuice wasn’t originally gonna be comedic
The cartoon makes it seem like the movie didn't happen. The Maitlands were the original main characters and they're nowhere to be found in the cartoon. It's like the story is the Deetzes moved into a house that was haunted by a mischievous but mostly harmless ghost named Beetlejuice, whom their sixth sense-having daughter befriends.
I always found it a really scary movie tbh
3:12 LOL... pure classic
Love Beetlejuice. Such an entertaining individual. The most lively dead person to ever cross the silver screen. Always so over the top. Can't help but love this guy.
