I too have gone through this route with my 2.3-16. The best solution is coilovers. You get more adjustment flexibility and your short struts/shocks will not bottom out.
About to do suspension on my 16v. I’ve got a coil over setup so will be a bit different. Was great to get a look and hear how it went for you. Glad these cars are getting more and more love from people.
wish I had that type of spring compressor, 25 years ago. lol! I remembered lowering my 1986 190E-2.3 (non cossie) back in 1998 and it freaking took me 12 hours just to do the front suspension! LOL! I barely had tools and was only in 11th grade high school when I first did my lowering spring installation on my 190E. but that was a great learning experience because after that, I am able to do the same job in 3 hours and thats installing all 4 lowering springs on the W201 chassis. I've owned about 5 other 190E's over the course of 25 years. but never had a Cosworth. hopefully one day! but I'm happy with my current 190E-2.6 and its on old school Vogtland lowering springs. check it out on my channel!
Great video man! That Cosworth is really a sight to behold. Take good care of it as it is an investment. That thing is going to be worth millions one day.
When you replaced the front you used 8mm Burls. from 18mm. is that the same for the back also? so this way you can reduce suspension height even on a standard car with Sls., which only does the back anyway. Mine has a Standard sls suspension setup running 8 ×18 wheels very similar to yours actually made by compomotive specifically for the car. no rubbing at all. I had same bolt issues the back one was clicking on the plate even with certain other bolts so had to machine the rears. I would like to drop it maybe 10 mm would ride perfect if your method works . thanks .👍
Great information regarding the suspension, spacers and lugs. The wheels look awesome but are they re-drilled to accommodate the MB bolt pattern? Compomotive also makes these in the correct pattern no drilling needed.
Those a one of my dream cars. I was 15 when they came out. And loved how sporty they looked. I recently found one a 1986 one in the smoke silver color. That is in pretty rough shape. And probably is over priced. But would you recommend one as a project car. Thinking it could be a cool project for me and my 15 y/o son to work on.
Good luck with all these mods but I prefer to keep my 16v as was when it left the factory even having the SLS completely refurbished with new parts. i cannot imagine why guys think they can improve on the standard car. I consider it brilliant as is.
Nice ride. Love those wheels. Do you still have this car? I noticed you didn’t put the car up on Jack stands. You just raised each corner one at a time.
Great advise about lug bolt i bought an alfa 146 on ebay a year ago little did i know the had later model rims but the bolts where too short only grabbing about 3 turns thank god i when over the brakes as a force of habit should i drove the car i could have easily los a rim very dangerous ...pls review your used cars there are too many idiots on the planet
Hey man your content is dope. I just bought a 2015 F type R after watching your videos! I want to dip my toes in my very first upgrades etc, would be cool if I can reach out! I’m also in Texas!
