I owned a 190 E 2.3.16V and they were only made in 1986 and 87 and my 1987 had the head lamp wipers the car SUCKED constantly needed repairs and was terrible in the rain with it rear wheel drive It cost me $43,000+ in 1987
Love this car, I've been looking for a 2.5 in Europe and Japan to bring it to the US. hopefully one day I'll have the pleasure to drive one of these cars. I love the video and the content, very well done.
Thanks for this very nice Video. Iam from Germany and a owner of 1984 2.3-16. it is a pleasure for me too see that this beautiful car also outside from Germany is getting the attention which it deserves. There is only one important thing I want to add: The Mercedes Benz 190 2.3-16 is still holding the Speed world records for the distances 25.000 km 25.000 Miles 50.000 km Driving nonstop over 8 days with an average speed of 247,9 km/h. This world record was set in August 1983, just a few weeks before launching.
Correction at 4:25 - Stirling Moss was not an F1 Championship winner. However, he is still one of the most important drivers in Mercedes' racing history. Other Champions who drove in the race included Keke Rosberg, Alan Jones, James Hunt, and Jody Scheckter.
Legendary machine! As a proud owner of a W124 300D, I hope I can have the pleasure of having one of these as well, some day... Fantastic video, as always!!!
W124s are beautiful, I'd love to get one some day. Especially a diesel, that thing has bulletproof reliability. But I am more than satisfied with my W210 E320 for the time being.
Beautiful car and you present it in an fitting, elegant manner. It shows how good the platform and design really is considering the range of applications this could fulfill. And it just looks so good doing it. A truly timeless classic even just considering the base model.
The MB 190E was the car that saved Mercedes. Back then the Merced Limos were used as Taxis in Germany and the old demographics of Merc buyers caused a red alert. Absent from Motorports since the Hammer, the 190E renewed the image for the Baby Boomer generation. The high volume of the 190E sales helped to rocked the revenue, but also dilute the fixed cost of the factory, for all models. And despite being more compact than the Limos 280, the front seats had the same space/ergonomics of its rich cousins.
This car is really special and intertwines the careers of several racing legends. The Nurburgring race caused the first encounter of Senna and Prost, when Alain was asked to pick the new British F3 hotshot at the airport. Then Schumacher as a rookie also raced the Karscher AMG 190Evo in DTM... and caused a controversial crash when he cut crossed the grass to crash into BMW M3 of Johnny Cecotto.
Man!!! This is a beautiful and fantastic car! 😍 I use to dream about it when they come out... and I still dream about it today!!! It will be a privilege owning or driving one someday 😍👌👌😁😎🙏🏽 thanks for the review! Nice video and info... Cheers from Portugal👍 😎
Thanks again for including some of our cars in your videos again. The Silver Arrow racecar that we build to the championship win was backed by Mercedes-Benz Canada. The construction was based loosely on Generation One DTM cars. Obviously, there are only few Mercedes-Benz that has ever build outside of Mercedes-Benz and AMG has won championships. The Evo-II was from Japan. The owner of the time you took those shots brought the car to Hong Kong for my brother to restore before shipping to Vancouver.
Hi from Ireland there's a 1987 2.6 straight 6 in my local scrap yard I saw yesterday in burgundy the guy was busy so I'll try him again later it's quite rare in Ireland as most 190s are diesel cars used by taxi drivers due to fuel efficiency and compact for rural Irish roads
I drive ocasionally my car , a fully restored 2.3 clasic 136 hp 1989 190E W201 Nautical blue exterior and brasil brown interior. ....and I love it. !!!!
Well you missed one important E190, The BRABUS 190 2.316 TURBO a unicorn among e190 , only 8 cars ever existed. I don't know how many survived but one of dose 8, is in under full reatoration at my shop. We had a few e190 2.3' over the years but I tell you this one is a monster!
AMGmeister - lovely post and very informative. As a '88 BMW 325 Sport owner, in '96 l bought my wife a '93 190E 2.6AMG Sportline auto, and always wondered about the 4 cyl 16v, much as we both loved small in-line 6's...
driving a inline 6 makes for a comfortable drive. Driving the 4 cylinder 16v makes your heart race b/c you need to keep it above 4k rpm for any power. It is like a pack of killer bees in the engine bay the whole drive!
The soundtrack at 8:22 denounces you are a 90's-2000's kid ; ) "Cygnus Rift" for the curious ones. It's a preety track from NFS: High Stakes Btw, does anyone know the 80's style track at 10:28?
Correction: all 502 Evolutions were black except the last two which were silver, same goes for Evo 2s Other than that your research is spot on and your video is highly informative. Great job. 👍
Amazing car always wanted one 2.3 16 v amazing just a real wonderful car to drive and use with history that will always be historic from Sena to DTM…. If you can buy one get one now only going up in value. True driving classic
When I met Jason Camisa at Legends of the Autobahn and RADwood, he told me the difference in driving experience between the 2.3-16/ 2.5-16 and Evo 1 + Evo 2 is negligible. Love all of them but makes me proud to own one knowing I’m probably not missing out on much in terms of a NA 2.3-16 and a legit Evo 2 besides about 400 grand cost and some extra visuals.
Nice video, informative. I got lucky. Found a Euro model with 33k miles, automatic. Swapped in a 5-speed. Car is like new, and this way, I know it couldn’t have been abused having been an automatic.
Great work. Been a fun of your clips. The 190 EVOs are such a classic. I have a set of authentic evo wheels covered in dust in my garage. Let me know if you know of anyone who might be interested.
The quality is insane! Thank you. Is there any possibility you do the CL63/65(C216 generation), ML55/63/GLE63s and the W218 CLS63? These are my favorite AMGs but it's so hard to find the production and sales numbers.
Prices are way more now. Expect $25-35K. I had a chance to buy one in 2014 for $4k. It was traded in sitting on a local Ford dealers lot. I should have bought it. 95k miles and a bit rough but totally fixable. Interior was immaculate. Black exterior and dog-leg transmission. I want to kick myself when I think about it.
Yea, was about to ask too! I always liked 1st gen. W218 is one of the favorite Mercedes 4doors for me. Specials cars. Newest generation doesn't work, has weird exterior design and no longer V8...
Hey man you think soon you could make a difference between the 2003 s55 and the 2006 s65 ! I would love to see the differences in theses two great cars
Cool car for sure. However, the evo 2s were really expensive when new. You could buy a Porsche 911 for the same money. They only needed to make 500 for the DTM rules and they likely wouldn't have sold many more than that.
Still gonna be a heavy fat car with way too many electronics. Just imagine if they would make a tribute, manual gearbox, lightweight and everything else.

The 190 E was my dream car as a teenager. Some would say I was a different kid. Yes but one with taste.
Well said, I own a red 1991 190E 2.6 and I have the best taste ever!
Its still my dream car xD my family had W123 when I was a kid. I'm gonna buy this beauty one day lol
I just bought one like 2 weeks at 18 years old, i have been working since i was 15 to be able to afford it..
Remember seeing a Evo 2 at a dealer storage area when the came out and wanted an 190e ever since
@jvm77 No bro, I own a 1987 silver 190E 2.6 and I have the best taste😂😉
The 190E 2.3 16v was my first and best Mercedes ever, back in 2006

@@sylvantieger4981 only conclusion: YOU sucked
Such a well prepared material. Lots of effort and attention to details. Very engaging like always👏
I'm very proud to have one as my first car
Fun fact about the evo2 wing. BMW said "if that rear wing works, we are going to redesign our windtunnel" wich they eventually did.
Yay! Happy to be here, been waiting for another of your well-crafted presentations.
Literally been waiting for this one! What beautiful cars.
Another video you knocked out the park.
Just started my 2.3 16 yesterday.
First start of the year. Waiting for summer 😀

When I was young in the 80s, the E30 M3 and the Mercedes 2.3-16V were on my dream list everyday.

We have an EVO 2 in the workshop with 50.000km. It’s a customer car that gets driven regularly. It’s in pristine condition!
Take care of it!

I underestimated this car b/c it was "only 170hp" I did not have enough skill to drive this machine. I crashed it :(
