This 190E is from the golden years of Mercedes. Repairable with your own hands without the need for a scantool. I'd have one of these in a heatbeat if I had the money and the space. What I like is that you use genuine or OEM brand parts. It can be pricey but it is always money well spent. I hope you will be able to feature a W123 or R107 if you already haven't done so.

How exactly does something look 'better made'? Mercedes engines look similar to any other engine. And they don't last any longer than a Japanese or American engine.
That is so not true. A Japanese engine using a timing belt needs to be done about 80k miles. A Benz as well as most German engine use a timing cbsim which can easily get north of 200m miles of engine is serviced properly. Your argument that German engines are no better made than any other engine is instantly invalid sir. Maybe you should spend many years working engines of all continents before you come to such a conclusion.
Hi Guys . Got your link via High Peak Autos . Good to see someone who actually cares about cars and does not rip off customers . Wish i could say that about some of the garages i have used for my Vauxhall Insignia EGR Issues ..Anyway . Keep up the good work . Really enjoying your channel .
Superb video from genuine, committed, knowledgeable, professional mechanics - they don't breed 'em like that anymore. Thank you ever so much for posting this - it will help others to get even more enjoyment out of their 180/190's
I know what you feel when they miraculously forget to mention stuff... this one brings old memories about our old cars made in Romania, Dacia 1310, those had carburettors and used to clean them all the time. We used to say, with a plier and some wire, you'll never be stranded with your car. Thanks for the video, really loved it, shame that we are not close, would love to come by and say HI.
What a new customer. Your mechanic is like your doctor. Tell them what's wrong and don't present with your medication. Wish I could have a 190 but ulez says no. A w123 I think next as there's too much tech in my clk
That was riveting, I was sad you fixed it. A part2 would've been brill. Great seeing you having to conclude that when the obvious is eliminated, then the unlikely is all that's left.
Fantastic to see this 190E. I was working as a service advisor at Alan Day Mercedes-Benz Ltd in North London when these came out in 1982. We had one of the first demo cars and also the very first 190D in a few months later for their first services and they caused quite a stir particularly amongst the wives of our customers which is of course exactly what MB had hoped they would do. Back then the waiting would have been around 9 months to get one. I'd previously worked for MBUK and we bought each car from MBAG in Sindelfingen for about the same in deutschmarks as they sold them for in sterling. i.e. £1 = 4.3DM. So MBUK were selling a W126 500SE for example for the same amount in sterling as the bought it in deutschmarks. A £30k car on the forecourt, only cost them around £6.5K from Germany. What a mark up!!!!!! Keep up the great work lads.

Well done guys. Great channel. You deserve to succeed with your channel. I’ve run MBs for 30 years. Great to see and hear your expertise at work. Keep going.
Another interesting video and a prime example of how experience can save the day. Getting the engine nice and hot before attempting to remove the spark plugs was something I was taught to do by my senior engineering fitter right from the start of my working life and I've never broken one yet. Nice catch on the blocked exhaust too. Keep the vids coming I love them.
I brought a 190e a few years back for scrap, clean car but non runner. It turned out to be the pipe that fixes underneath the fuel inj system. It had come away from the rubber diaphram which was also badly perished so i changed that as well.Had a perfect running car after which i used for 6 months and sold for a good profit.

Now, this is a real car! All the best in growing you channel! Please refrain from resorting to bad language (although I use it as well) not professional! Blocked exhaust; would never have predicted that LOL!
A vacuum gauge is the easiest way to diagnose an exhaust restriction. Also, does the car have an exhaust access plug before the catalytic converter to check and adjust the mixture? Most CIS and K-Jetronic systems do.
What memories. I remember that the idle adjustment pot screw is the last resort. If memory serves, the ECU takes 7 different readings from various sensors to get the correct fuel mixture. I chased down a bad idle on a 2.3 cossie and it turned out to be a short in the wiring to the ICV.
Great car. I had a 190 2 litre with the carburettor one of the best engineered car I have owned from Mercedes. Still regret selling it now. So interesting to see you working on such a car.
Lovely Job! Bought a 190E (2.0) for my mum in the early 2000s. About 70k miles. Great car, serviced twice a year and she put 300k more miles on it. No problems at all. She had a stroke and gave up driving sold it easily although a little baggy now.
As a 190 e 1.8 owner I really enjoyed your video and learnt a few tips they are a great car I have some welding to do to mine on the floor they getting rare now great job
i always use a half inch drive for removing plugs on old cars it reduces the flex on the extension and can stop the plug ceramic cracking while slackening, then refit with a 3/8 drive, changing plugs can become a nightmare very quickly, excellent channel btw sam
Hi buddy I had a 190e 2 l with factory fitted body kit. It was amazing. Suffered brake fade when pushed. The next c class was a rust bucket. Sills wings boot lock etc. I'm back with a c200 2011 sport estate. It's faultless. Regards nige
Bitter swee watching this, , had three of these, sold my most recent one when London got its ULEZ....my first one I tried to start again after the engine was running because it was so quiet. Thanks for the vid
Great video. If you were in the U.S. you would have diagnosed it with a plugged catalytic converter. This is a common problem on poorly serviced cars that run to rich. Catalytic converters palatium honeycomb Inside come apart and plug the exhaust.
I had a 1984 190 e it was beautiful looking car but was a completely nightmare for repairs previously I owned a 240 d none turbo and it was a fantastic car slow but reliable and wonderful to drive on the highway
Thumbs up for you 👍👍 and thumbs up for the owner 👍👍 amazing cars like this deserve to be repaired to rule the streets and not end up on a scrapyard because of minor issues!!💪😃☝
Really enjoyed the 190E video. My first car was a silver 190E in silver with black and grey trim it was a 1.8 too! I loved that car but had to sell it as I needed something reliable as I was teaching at the time.
Had two of them. The German taxi and best and most comfortable car I ever owned. Be lucky to make more than 24mpg. Electric sunroof and automatic . Wheel arches prone to rust a bit but a collectors car. Wish I'd kept mine now, prices have rocketed.
I'm liking the regular videos and something like this one shows your experience. I've worked on a couple of motorbikes with blocked exhausts and I don't mind admitting going around the houses to work out what was going on. In the end the clue was no pulses coming out of the silencer but with multiple boxes I don't know if you would feel them from a car. The induction roar didn't sound right at the beginning but engine noises rarely come over well on videos. Someone locally had a nearly new JCB that suddenly went gutless. The poor mechanic ended up stripping half the engine only to eventually find out that a piece had come off in the silencer and blocked the outlet.
soo refreshing to see a 201 or any older MBZ in for service, 201 reminds me of my days as a young man, had at least 3 of them including a 2.6L sportline...
a very similar thing to do this is get a can of builders spray foam and a bit of hosepipe , its used to seal up gaps etc. spray this up the hosepipr into exhaust as far as you can get it and keep finger on the trigger of can and it will set niceley ina few hours so best to do late evwening ready for the morning start up .. or not.......... . works best if back box is right near the end tail pipe..... great way to stop people revving up their noisey car in the morning so ive been told..... stones in the back box just makes them think engine is knackered......... good diagnosis though, and nice to see ngk plugs chucked away and correct ones put back in....
I had the 180 model with the extra brake light on the rear parcel shelf, was a solid little car with that incredible single wiper. It was a joy to drive but then things started going wrong and they seemed to be escalating especially when the heater core gave up and one brisk early Sunday morning all showered and dressed for mass it refused to start, I bit my tongue badly. It wasn't a one off and that's when I decided it had to go, it was old. Had an Audi and that to suffered from a clogged heater core, jammed sunroof, breaking door handle, faulty electric window, faulty ignition barrel (the Merc had that problem to), had to replace the radiator and so on. I had an Audi A8 and that's another story so no more German cars for me.

Great video. If you were in the U.S. you would have diagnosed it with a plugged catalytic converter. This is a common problem on poorly serviced cars that run to rich. Catalytic converters palatium honeycomb Inside come apart and plug the exhaust.
Yea I’ve seen a few blokes cats before now. In this case was a back box issue
I had a 1984 190 e it was beautiful looking car but was a completely nightmare for repairs previously I owned a 240 d none turbo and it was a fantastic car slow but reliable and wonderful to drive on the highway
I always wanted a 190 Cosworth.😍
Back in 2001 we bought one with head issues, which we fixed. It was a solid car.
Thumbs up for you 👍👍 and thumbs up for the owner 👍👍 amazing cars like this deserve to be repaired to rule the streets and not end up on a scrapyard because of minor issues!!💪😃☝
Well said! Another one back on the road
Really enjoyed the 190E video. My first car was a silver 190E in silver with black and grey trim it was a 1.8 too! I loved that car but had to sell it as I needed something reliable as I was teaching at the time.
Thanks for another great video. The 190 is one of the true Mercedes
PS Thought when you'd opened up that back box you had found a cat lol
It sure is!
😂😂
Yea it sounded awful, just choking it self up.
I’ve been there before going around the houses for a similar fault. Everyday is a learning day.
could watch this guy all day..
soo refreshing to see a 201 or any older MBZ in for service, 201 reminds me of my days as a young man, had at least 3 of them including a 2.6L sportline...
2.6 sport line 👌🙌
It's amazing how the car actually fired up with that exhaust blocked.
I love how good you are use caustic soda to clean your garage floor
a very similar thing to do this is get a can of builders spray foam and a bit of hosepipe , its used to seal up gaps etc. spray this up the hosepipr into exhaust as far as you can get it and keep finger on the trigger of can and it will set niceley ina few hours so best to do late evwening ready for the morning start up .. or not.......... . works best if back box is right near the end tail pipe..... great way to stop people revving up their noisey car in the morning so ive been told..... stones in the back box just makes them think engine is knackered......... good diagnosis though, and nice to see ngk plugs chucked away and correct ones put back in....
Still have 3 of these beauties!. 2 K Reg/ 1L Reg.
Great Video Love the Mercedes 190E❤️❤️
I had an Audi A8 and that's another story so no more German cars for me.
interesting video, what happend about the brakes. keep up the good work.
New subscriber. Really enjoyed you working on the 190e. Love those cars. Had one years ago. Now going to see your other vids. Cheers
Welcome and enjoy 🙏
I owned one of these years ago. Really over engineered in some respects. Loved seeing it being worked on 👌🏾👌🏾
Just stumbled on your channel, cracking vid. Thanks.
