- Epic race in the "new" Nurburgring in which Ayrton Senna and other F1 drivers as Niki Lauda, Alain Prost, James Hunt, Jack Brabham, Phil Hill, Denis Hulme, Jacques Laffite, Carlos Reutemann, Keke Rosberg, Jody Scheckter, Manfred Schurti, John Watson competed each other with the Mercedes Benz 190 E 2.3 16v in 12/5/1984.
Mercedes weren't too happy that this unknown guy, Senna, won. He wasn't even supposed to compete, but Fittipaldi had other commitments. They had hoped that Lauda or another champion would win, so they could display the car. It probably took them a few years to fully appreciate the fact that Senna won.

The only bad thing about this little gem is I didn’t know who was where as I don’t speak German. I always wondered how senna would fair in a car that all the other drivers had identical machines, well this little film has answered that question , without a doubt senna could outdrive all others. This must be a rare find , it’s brilliant.

I saw this "live" on t.v., back then.
Some 15 years ago I contacted Mercedes myself to ask them if I could get a copy of that same race and the people I spoke didn't know what I was talking about. And it is really something special because I never ever saw it again (until today), not even in Senna memorial programs. The fact itself that young Senna beat "the establishment" of Grand Prix racing in this special race is also forgotten by many Formula 1 "specialists" like commentators and journalists.

Ledo engano meu caro, Piquet era trocentas vezes melhor.
Senna tinha muito arrojo, mas tinha um mapa de corrida muito ruim, e como o próprio Piquet disse, Senna não sabia acertar o carro e isso conta muito para a F1 daquela época, é tão tal que o Senna não conseguiu ser campeão na Lotus que era o terceiro carro daquele grid, eqnto o Piquet foi campeão em 1983 com o terceiro carro daquela temporada, isso mostra a diferença cabal entre eles.
O Wilson Fittipaldi fez criticas pesadas ao Ayrton por erros e riscos desnecessários que ele corria.
Renato Mauricio Prado na época diretor da SporTV disse: "Vc entende melhor falando de F1 com o Piquet, em vez do Senna"

Eu nem vou falar da Lotus Honda pq é acabar de vez com o Senna, me refiro a Lotus Renault.
Naquela Lotus Renault o Piquet desenvolveria o mesmo trabalho que fez na Brabham com o Gordon Murray, sem falar que ele se valeria demais do seu mapa de corrida.

Sempre inventaram desculpa para encobrir as deficiências do Senna... na Lotus Renault era o motor que bebia demais... na Lotus Honda era a suspensão ativa da Lotus.

Little did we know how fortunate we were back in the 80's, witnessing all these legends racing together. In that era, F1 was way more exciting, cinema gave us countless classics which are all getting pointless remakes today, and even music had superior quality. This race is history in the making. I do miss Ayrton. Pure genius!
First time I have seen this video. Ayrton Senna had this incredible talent which enabled him to dominate every single race series he entered once he progressed from karts. What a driver. The likes of which we will never see again. Unfortunately, his fearlessness ultimately killed him. Gilles Villeneuve was in the same mould who met the same fate.

Espetacular, Senna só entrava pra ganhar. Ontem, 30/06/19 assisti a corrida de F1 na Áustria, fazia vários anos que eu não assistia mas ontem foi um show a parte do holândes Max Verstappen me fez lembrar Ayrton Senna pelo arrojo e agressividade do estilo de pilotagem.

Few months prior watched Keke Rosberg win F1 Dallas Grand Prix in July 1984 driving a Williams Honda. Lauda, Senna and the rest were there as well. Hottest Grand Prix ever run according to Goodyear. Track temperature 154 degF.

I love these spec races. Everyone talks so much about how great Senna was, but notice that Lauda, who doesn't get as much praise, doesn't lose any ground to him once he gets by Reutemann. Also too bad they don't show the beginning where Senna shoves Prost off the track.
Yes yes yes, Senna did overtook Prost using a ballsmove so what? Then Prost gave up and cruise in the race just to finish, like he always did in F1. But thats why Senna was the best, thats why Lewis is the best and thats max will be the best. You gotta take risk. If you dont have the balls to fight and use your skills up, then better give up.

but racing isnt a demolition derby. at the top level its not particularly dangerous anymore, but in the 60s and 70s an f1 driver outlived his lifespan by lasting 6 years. they lost 2 or 3 of 20 guys every single year. human beings every one of them, with wives, kids, sisters and brothes. talk like yours is cheap and born of other peoples blood. it always was but nobody can squeeze money from you by telling you that.
give it a rest and rejoin the living- show some actual courage instead of the empty marketing kind. the human beings need everyone back asap.

Indiscutivelmente o melhor piloto de todos os tempos. Quem o critica não faz idéia do que é pilotar em Nurburgring. Esta pista é muito longa. Com curvas de altíssima velocidade e com ondulações que fazem muitos pilotos experientes perderem totalmente o controle do carro. E nesta ocasião, ele foi melhor que muitos pilotos renomados que nem é preciso citar quais. Isso porque era considerado um novato. Saudades do nosso campeão.
Essa já é a versão curta de Nurburgring. Essa corrida foi para inaugurar o novo circuito.

Lauda was the fastest in this field. He started from the back and kept gaining on Senna all the time. And yes Senna was probably the best F1 driver of all time. He should have finished his career at Ferrari instead of the bad 1994 Williams which went from understeering to oversteering in a fraction of a second in the corners. Bad car without all the correcting electronics Prost had the year before and a bad welding in the steeringcolumn didn't help either.

No first lap where Senna wrecked Prost! He was dirty driver.
The broadcasters were covering the blowhard politician at the beginning whose speech ran overlong, that's why they missed the start of the race, dumkopfs lol. You can clearly see when they get to looking at the cars they're already underway. Also Prost said Senna pushed him off the track, not wrecked him. Which is why when Senna fans claim his car is in a museum without a scratch, besides the fact that they would clean it up before putting it on display, it's irrelevant because Prost never said Senna hit his car or crashed into him; he said he pushed him off the track on the first lap, implication being Prost swerved to avoid.
