Later in like 2012 or so, they played Beyond The Wheel on Letterman's show and Chris still sounded amazing. It's on TH-cam. I used to serve stouts to Kim Thail in my bar in Seattla around 2012 while they were recording their last album. I told Kim I had just seen Chris's solo tour and mentioned that Chris still sounds amazing. Kim agreed and said he's getting better. What??? Lol.
Thanks for reviewing my favorite song, by my favorite singer. I saw them the first show with C.O.C. and Danzig. Soundgarden played the middle slot. They came out with Wheel. It starts with Kim Thiel's drone(king of drone) when Chris started singing, the whole room came to a rigging standstill. The pit froze in place. It was like a bomb dropped. Then he jumps up 2 octaves... All we could do is look at each other. Knowing, we were getting our first look of a band that was no one hit wonder. I'm just happy I get to see him in his prime! RIP Chris!
Way late to the party here but as an attender of many early SG shows, Beyond the Wheel is about the build up….and then the hit that keeps hitting. Epicness 🤘
Most of Black Rain was recorded during the Badmotorfinger sessions. Some of the chorus was redone in 2011. But I agree his voice was amazing right til the end
I don't understand why people only react to this performance of Beyond the Wheel. He was really exhausted from a long show and long tour here. He still did great but you could find much stronger performances pretty easilt. Type in "Beyond the wheel Club Citta Japan" -- that's one of the best.

Great review. Btw the drummer is Matt Cameron who is now Pearl Jam's drummer. Pearl Jam is my favorite band but there are a few songs where it's undeniable that Chris may have had the best voice of all the singers from that era including Layne Staley.
It’s definitely a matter of personal taste and subjective. I prefer Layne especially on the live stuff but I also love Chris but I’d mostly rather listen to Chris’s studio stuff. Both were two of the greatest 🤘🏽
People just fall in love with Layne, Chris is a better singer by far. Take Laynes best live performance up against this and and he wins by a Longshot. Plus AIC is a 2 part harmony band for the most part because Jerry wrote all the songs and his voice is underrated. Shit Jerry carried Layne that whole unplugged performance, even healthy Layne is not fucking with Chris.
As my dad told me when I was a kid, everyone has an opinion, just like an asshole and they usually stink. It’s a matter of personal taste and it’s subjective like all music. I love both Layne and Chris both but I’d rather listen to Layne. It’s true Jerry wrote the music but Layne wrote lyrics to over 30 AIC songs, most people fail to recognize that part. And I wouldn’t necessarily say Jerry carried Layne through the unplugged performance, those two always fed off each other great, I mean I’ll agree it wasn’t Layne’s best outing but he still did great considering his condition and his mental state. His voice was still pretty good in the unplugged
Dude could peel the paint off of walls with that range back in the day. At a Soundgarden show I went to where they opened Kim did that same thing at the end walking away and leaving his guitar in a feedback loop, Ben (bass player) did as well. My favorite vocal performance by Cornell. He had some serious chops then. I was hoping either Patton or Halford would have sung this as a tribute at Cornell's Tribute Concert. I think they are the only ones who could give it justice.

David,
Can you react to Eddie Vedder Master of war, tribute to Bob Dylan 30th anniversary ? Eddie is amazing.
I actually already did a reaction to that video, here's a link to the reaction: th-cam.com/video/3f7KLyOKWn0/w-d-xo.html
Check out the album version
Oh and if your enjoying discovering cornell's voice make sure you check out soundgarden birth ritual, I can't stop thinking if bands I want you to listen too, ie Janes Addiction 😅
@MrBrenman I'm slowly going through his videos , gonna be a great afternoon
fucking powerful
(Chris destroys mic stand and immediately thanks the crowd)
Loud Love and Ultramega are his best vocal range era
I see what you mean but his voice rounded out perfectly by badmotorfinger. Beyond the wheel and slaves and bulldozers are his most powerful vocal performances for sure.
The riff was originally played by Hiro, kim is better though.
I've heard his technique referred to as 'belting'. An operatic technique?
Not exactly. "Belting" is just a term used for someone who is really projecting and supporting with a ton of power. i.e. "Man check out that singer, he's really belting those lines out".
@@THEDavidHeretic take a look at the operatic term for belting. It's distinctive from mixing and blending according to this article. But I'm no expert. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belting_(music)
I saw Chris sing this song 6 times
This performance was good- but there are SO many more live versions of this song that are waaaay better.
That first pause really pissed me off bro
Sorry
@@THEDavidHeretic it was like blue ba.... I'm not going to finish that thought....
Nah man it's all in good fun, but it did hit like a gut punch because Chris was about to wail.
Good stuff
Dude he’s gotta listen to “Fopp” by Soundgarden, I swear he already did but I guess not.
Great one though.
Beyond the wheel the motor vision is a live concert, my opinion it’s better
then he did it in 2012...unreal
React to 4th of July by Soundgarden
Check out birth ritual
I've actually already done a reaction the Birth ritual...here's a link to the reaction: th-cam.com/video/f-8Oo6WD2_w/w-d-xo.html
Hey David. You should react to 'you know you're right' by Nirvana. It was their last song
I'll need a link so I watch the correct video

You should react to Diversity by Juho Ranta-Maunus :0
I'll need a link so I watch the correct video
Every single reaction I’ve seen to this song gets paused at the same time, it always ruins the key change reaction
Pena q a banda não está a altura de chis
Where were you in the 90's? lol
I was very heavy into Jazz and Prog Rock. I avoided bands like Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Nirvana like the plague.
@@THEDavidHeretic fair enough..
Jesus is my friend
A pagan saying "Jesus is my friend" lmao
???
Wow 9.1 i was thinking more of a 3
@@rdh1130 Then Chris and Soundgarden are obviously not your cup of tea.
I'll give your rating of 3 for this a 1.2. Yep 1.2, I feel great with that score x
@@ameliacharles2284 nope love most of louder than love and after. Never could get into the earlier stuff. Just my opinion. There is no wrong or right. I’m sure you probably hate the music I like. LoL this song was just too screechy and repetitive for my taste.
I'm sorry, chris, but jesus is your savior he's your king and you shouldn't mock other people's beliefs like that they I don't mock here believes which was the sun worship
This isnt even the best version of this song
This isn't even the best version somehow..look up "Beyond the Wheel Unbelievable Performance" even more insane than this
