Totally agree with you Dave - I have been a U2 fan since I was 13, have seen them live in 5 countries, but the rhythm section has always been my favorite aspect of their songs. And in recent years with remasters, Adam's creative bass playing has really come to fore. He usually plays melody and Edge plays rhythm and melodic touches on top of the bass melody.
I clicked on this video hoping the request was for a live performance and I was so excited that it was!! I was actually at this concert in GA inside the ring and it was AMAZING! The first time I saw U2 in GA and it was unreal. Like the other commenters have said, the album version of this song was fine, but it was just so much better live. I really wish that on the album version they had the "let me in the sound" bit in the intro as well as later in the song like they did in the live version bc that small change would have improved the album version greatly. There were a couple songs from that album that they changed for the better when they played them live, this was one of them. The 360 tour was such an awesome experience and while every U2 tour is designed to be a unique live experience, the 360 tour was on another level and probably the closest I'll get to the experience of their tours in the 90s. One of the things that was super cool about the 360 tour was that it was designed to maximize the stadium GA capacity so they could lower the ticket prices. That set design was insane. You can't tell from this video but the screen was made up of small honeycomb tiles so it could expand down into a lattice shape. On this song it was in its normal position so it just appeared as a solid screen. There was also this microphone mounted on a wheel that was strung from the top of the set so Bono could swing around on it. Very cool! One of the things I love about U2 is that they always design their shows to be a great experience regardless of where your seats are and this tour did that better than any other U2 tour I've seen. I saw concerts on this tour in GA, in pretty good seats, and in the rafters and all 3 experiences were equally awesome. There was so much of the show that you missed if you never had seats in the rafters, it was such a cool experience. (Big shoutout to U2's tour designer Willie Williams who is a genius and comes up with the coolest concepts for every tour) Your expectations for great live performances aren't unrealistic at all! As a massive fan of U2 and Bruce Springsteen I have pretty high standards when it comes to live performances bc both of them always give their all. Bruce is such an incredible performer that he is able to put on an amazing show with zero production and his style of music doesn't need it. I think U2 would be great even without all the production, but I love that they always put together these incredible live productions to work with the meaning or vibe of the album they are touring. They go above and beyond when it comes to production (pretty much the opposite of Bruce lol) and their shows are always such an amazing experience. I also just love your appreciation for Larry and Adam. They don't get enough hype and they are absolutely essential to U2's sound. Also, in U2 lore, Larry was the one who started the band and he wanted it to be called the Larry Mullen Band, even though bands are rarely named after drummers...so there would be no U2 without Larry.
Get On Your Boots"* is a burst of pure energy that showcases U2 at their boldest and most experimental. This track, from the album *"No Line on the Horizon"*, combines electrifying guitars with a vibrant rhythm that commands action from the very first second. The Edge's guitar work shines with dynamic and daring riffs, while Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr.’s rhythmic foundation drives the song with contagious intensity. Bono delivers a charismatic performance, with lyrics that inspire movement and optimism, infused with a rebellious spirit that harkens back to the band's finest moments. With its blend of rock, electronic elements, and a touch of psychedelia, *"Get On Your Boots"* is an anthem that celebrates freedom and bravery. It’s a testament to U2’s fearlessness in breaking molds and exploring new sonic territories, remaining fresh and relevant. A track designed to lift spirits and light up any stage.
Get on your boots isn’t an experimental U2 track 😃 lemon was mofo was the fly was Miss Sarajevo was Get on your boots was just vertigo 2 but not anywhere near as good
I was going to leave a negative comment about this song vs the 80s U2 but you enjoyed it so much that I'm just going to enjoy your reaction instead. You had me smiling ear to ear.
Spectacular reaction, David! It’s funny… as mentioned by others, this song is not well-liked in the U2 fan community. One reason is that there were much stronger songs on the No Line On the Horizon album, and featuring this as the first single caused the world at large to yawn and move on from U2. Another part of it was that their previous album exploded up the charts with the song Vertigo (that’s one you should react to a live version of if you haven’t yet) and GOYB felt like they tried the exact same thing with a much crappier song. That’s part of why the mass audience went “oh, this again” and moved on. BUT… they really brought that song to life on the 360 Tour; when I saw them in Atlanta, the whole show was incredible, but I distinctly remember thinking that song was one of the biggest surprises of the night in that I thought I might use that song to take a bathroom break and instead really enjoyed it. Loved to see you pull out the bass, too!
Yes, you summed it up perfectly! It's tough being a U2 fan and the way the band is treated by the world at large makes it hard to enjoy their new stuff bc no it isn't as good as their stuff from the 80s, 90s, and 00s. But they always make up for it in their live performances. Imo it has become a pattern where they end up almost finishing their songs when they start playing them live, bc the changes they make to the songs are always for the better. Having the "let me in the sound" in the intro of GOYB as well as at the end was how the song should have been on the album! For me this song was a pleasant surprise along with the remix of "I'll Go Crazy..." which again I think should have been the version on the album. There was a lot of good stuff on that album, but there was also some pretty weak songs and it is kind of nice that the 360 tour theme was removed from the album so that it was its own thing bc the tour was so much cooler than the album.
The thing I love about U2 is you can actually hear the bass either on record or live. All 4 members are treated equally. Doesn't even matter who rights the song (usually Bono), they split the royalties evenly among the group
Love your channel and your reviews, really look forward to the U2 ones When I saw you had done a reaction to Get on your Boots I thought oh no you’re going to hate it. I’m a big U2 fan and it has to be one of my least favourite songs. It sort of signalled the end of that single chart topping relevant rock band. U2 never really recovered from it, it didn’t do well at all, it was the lead single from no line on the horizon in 2009. It was their first lead single since 1988 that didn’t get to number 1 here in the U.K. didn’t even make the top 10,The general music listener outside the U2 fan base hasn’t returned to the band since. Loved your review though, the song was much better live on the 360 tour than it was on record. You sold it to me very well Not enough though😃 I don’t think I’ll ever be a big fan of the song
If you travel on I-15 to Draper, UT, where Loveland Living Planet Aquarium is located, you will see one of the "Claw" U2 used on the 360-degree tour. There were three of them; I believe the remaining two are in storage somewhere.
I went to both shows in South Africa! 114000 people in JHB and 98 000 in Cape Town. 182 tripple axle trucks to ship the stage from Durban to JHB. Unreal loudest sound at a show I ever heard
No Pitchforks here. That score is actually much higher than I expected. Was thinking maybe high 6s at best. On record, the song is fine. Not a favorite. I always felt the first half was slightly clunky, perhaps needing a better transition from verse to chorus. However, 100% agree one the killer groove, and the bridge? "Let Me In The Sound" which is one of my all-time favorite parts of any song. It just destroys! and also fits the song perfectly. It is much better live, than the studio version. I wish there was a call back to the "Let Me In The Sound" part, coda ending, where they could really have the crowd join in. I would lose my mind. Speaking of which, LOVE how passionate you got about the Bassist and Drummer!
I think the live performance of The Blackout by U2 in Berlin or the official video filmed in Amsterdam have those "dirty ingredients", similar to this live song. th-cam.com/video/J63ur4hTMKw/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/PaJCFHXcWmM/w-d-xo.html And for those who criticize this song, well U2 has the problem that in their last albums they can't capture the energy of their live performances and their studio some songs sound dull and weak.
IMO it was a poor song for the lead single for NLOH album. The music video was cool but the recorded version a bit of a let down. The live version (and it's from live jams this song came together) is much better than the recorded.
Lol. Me. I'm the one who requested it. He literally announces it at the beginning and right before the score is given ... but that would have meant you watched the reaction, rather than just see "Get On Your Boots" and somehow be personally offended. If anything, blame U2 for making this their 1st single on their 12th album. David's a bassist and enjoys upbeat tunes. Easy pick. Not to mention, U2's notorious for rushing their songs in the studio and improving them in live performances. If you want to request songs, nothing is stopping you.
@@47imagineOh, I see. It's kind of like asking, "Who goes into the comments section to complain about song selections, when they can either just skip the video, or request songs that they like?" I get it now. The caps and the exclamation mark were what threw me off. Cheers mate.

This is just U2 as they are.
Real live band true legends,
They deserved all honor
I think you are already U2 fan :) welcome to our club :))
That’s the best review you gave yet. 💯Larry standing up and wacking that snare, like it owed him money😁 you always give a great review without bias👍
