      I agree after my second child I got up from the hospital bed the next morning and had the same thing happen. It was a mess on the floor. I felt so embarrassed and the nurse walked in and said it’s okay that happens while cleaning up the floor and the entire time my mind was like 😳. I felt so bad because I wanted to clean it up myself.

    Knowledge is power.
    I don't understand why doctors are not informing women about all this stuff. Pregnant women are literally patients and should be informed of everything they need to know about their body changes, so they are prepared physically and mentally. Not only that, every woman who wants to become a mother should do thorough research, so they know what they are getting into.

      They do tell you mostly everything, but it's soooo overwhelming and hard to process and remember every little thing you're told. You'll be more focused on your baby and how to care for them, you kind of put yourself on the back burner. Especially if you're bringing home your first baby, it's so extremely overwhelming! Trust me, I've had 4 kids at 4 different hospitals and they do try and tell you this, it's just too much to absorb after you've gone through giving birth for the first time.

    • @happycookieasa2849
      @happycookieasa2849 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      @@kaykanut8778 well that is not enough. Pregnancy is no joke, it is a serious medical procedure and we should be prepared for as much as we can. The mentality of older generations who would have kids and "figure things out" has failed on so many levels.
      All women in my family have birth trauma . My own mother got hasimoto's autoimmune disease after giving birth to me, and type b diabetes after my sister, due to medical negligence. She still suffers with these 30 years later.
      I have a history of panic attacks. There is no way going into labor without preparing for every scenario, cause if I am on panic mode, it can be dangerous for both me and the baby . So no, I expect to be fully informed.

    YES! THE SHAKES!!!
    Oh man! Nobody told me about the shakes! I remember that, out of nowhere, it was like I started vibrating. I swear, it was like I was having an out of body experience and I felt like I was going to literally shake right off of the bed. I was shaking and freezing so bad even with about 8 warm blankets piled on top of me so high that I literally couldn’t see over them. I genuinely thought that I must be going into shock and kept telling my husband that I thought I must be bleeding out and was about to die. I’ve NEVER, EVER felt so cold and been so unable to control my body. My teeth even hurt for days afterwards from chattering so hard.
    The nurses kept saying that it was all normal and okay but it was so severe and such a crazy feeling that I wasn’t warned about that I convinced myself that they were just saying that so I wouldn’t freak out. It was truly the worst part of pregnancy/birth for me because it scared me so badly. Wish so much that I’d been warned!

      Update (in case anyone was interested): I didn’t get to have my VBAC because I only dilated 3cms throughout my entire labor process. My doctor told me I needed another C-section after I hit the 24 hour mark and I won’t lie, I had an emotional breakdown. But here I am with baby boy 3 weeks later and we’re both doing okay.
      Edited to add that this C-section was way different from the first because instead of a spinal tap I had an epidural because I started it during my labor process (which I didn’t do with my first). And once my surgery was over and they had me try and move from the operating table to the hospital bed, I immediately felt everything as if I didn’t have any pain meds at all. It was HORRENDOUS.

      Hey girl I wanted to say that I was the same way. Actually I had almost or maybe it was a phobia of being pregnant and giving birth. They both just sounded absolutely terrifying to me. I stressed and was anxious alot during my pregnancy. I was nervous on the way to the hospital but once I got there a weird calmness came over me and I wasn't scared anymore. Just in case though I explained everything to my nurses who were absolutely amazing. My doctor was to but even just one good maternity nurse can make your stay at the hospital even better. I also have not a fear of hospitals but that's the only word I can think of to describe it. I had my daughter May of 2020 so I was only allowed to have one visitor with me. I had my husband with me and he had never had a baby either. My Mom passed away when I was 17 years old so my husbands Mom was going to come with us but she wasn't able too. We were super disappointed about this but everything was amazing. They were so helpful and soothing. Make sure you explain and and all fears and most of these women know what to say to help you feel better. You will do great!! Congratulations. Ps I suggest hospital tours if they are available meet the staff if you can. Covid made that not able to happen for me. So I had to look up hospital reviews. Look up the kinds of rooms they have too.

      First time mom here: I was terrified the entire time about the actual birthing process. I was also one that the more informed I was the less scared I was. The entire time I was pregnant every week I looked at progress videos and I started watching birthing videos very early on. By the time I was ready to have my son I felt pretty confident that I could do it. When they said it was time to start pushing I just kept my eyes closed and listened to everything. I listened to the nurses talking. I listened to my body and did what I felt was instinctive. When it comes time for you to have your little…provided all things are “normal” with your pregnancy…you and your body will automatically know what to do. It’s insane how mothering just takes over like a light switch. You got this girl. We were made for making babies!

      I've also had 4 kids and she's spot on!! That little squeeze bottle they give you is amazing, just make sure the water isn't too hot or cold! Also, ask a nurse if you can bring home some of those mesh, disposable underwear they put on you after birth. Just wait until you have your first shower, it's heavenly lol So bring your favorite body wash, shampoo and other toiletries to the hospital. It's hard to believe, but within a day or 2 you'll feel more like yourself than ever! I didn't know I'd actually want nice clothes, make up and to style my hair in the hospital. You may not want to though, and that's fine obviously lol It's literally the most amazing feeling holding your baby that first time, like a high you'll never experience until you have another baby, it's too amazing to put into words and they're sooo warm!! Congrats mama 🩷💙

      @Kay Ka Nut exactly!! I was under the impression that all the stuff they put in your room including little diapers and wipes and all kinds of other stuff is yours. Literally tj hospital I went to asked me if I wanted a little extra of everything to take home. I mean if you think about it just like the little soap and things hotels have included in the costs after birth most hospitals are the same. Genuinely I've been to alot of hospitals not necessarily for myself I've always been more due to spending time with others I love who were hospitalized. The one I stayed in to give birth to my daughter in was absolutely the most AMAZING HOSPITAL. It was kind of like going on a weird little vacation in a way. ( which was my only over night stay) I e had other surgical stuff but thankfully they have always been same day things.
      Now this doesn't mean the other hospitals weren't goof they were all nice and helpful from what I've seen but if you ever have to be hospitalized in oregon I highly highly suggest the santiam hospital which is in Stayton. It's a smaller hospital but they care soooo much about people. I love them.

    Yes to the stool softeners! Why does no one talk about this?! When you're pregnant you have everyone and their mother trying to tell you about giving birth to the point of annoyance. It's all mostly irrelevant because everyone's birth story is different and their advice probably won't help you. What they should be talking about is postpartum! You are not in the clear after your 1st postpartum bowel movement. Things can get rough 2 or 3 weeks post delivery if you're not careful. I found this out the hard way after having my 1st baby. I too almost felt like I was giving birth again. It was terrible. I had zero problems with my 2nd baby because I knew in advance what to do. To any expecting 1st time mamas out there, just take the stool softener until you poop for the 1st time. Then you can take a break from taking it. However, afterward if you miss the window of where you'd normally poop then you start up again on the stool softener until you do. So for example, if you're someone who before getting pregnant normally pooped everyday and now you've gone an entire day without pooping then tomorrow you need to start back up on the stool softener and take it daily until you go again. Repeat this process until you get back to normal and poop everyday (or whatever is normal for you) on your own. I wish someone had told me this. I get the impression from other moms that this happened to a lot of them too. I hope this comment helps someone avoid the agony that the rest of us didn't.

    This is going to sound crazy, but hear me out. For various reasons not all new moms breast feed. Regardless, it’s not like there’s a switch somewhere to tell your body to not take your pre-pregnancy b-cup breasts to dd-cantaloupes in under 36 hours!
    Holy Hell! For my oldest daughter I had an 18 hours of hard labor that ended in a csection. (I still think it’s because it was December, and she felt the cold draft and instantly said: “Screw you! It’s cold! You’ll have to evict me!!”)
    With the various injuries I left the hospital with, the breast engorgement was the one thing that threatened my ability to bond. It was so damn painful to have anything heavier than a shirt touch my breasts, trying to just hold my daughter was excruciating!
    Then I had the most kickass nurse I’ve ever met! I loved her to bits because she came from a Gullah family like my husbands family! She was sweet when needed, feisty and firey at the precisely perfect moments but always honest.
    She went to the store and came back with a big ol head of raw cabbage. She helped my layer leaves directly onto my breasts, then a bra, then the compression wrap. (At first, I won’t lie, I though she’d lost her mind!) but I quickly became a believer because it was but maybe a couple hours before I started feeling the relief.
    For anyone who thinks this is BS, please fact check me! You can go to any legitimate science source to find the proof. Including the NIH!!
    While I may have walked around like a day old container of coleslaw, the relief it gave was immeasurable! The fact I was able to have that bonding time with my babies… it’s a priceless reaction!!

    I’ve had four babies and not once has a nurse/midwife pushed any part of me during or after birth. Also I’ve never used stool softener, I think the pp wee is worse.

      I’m so surprised by how many are saying nobody pushed on their uterus. I thought you had to do it to stimulate contraction’s so you don’t bleed to death. It was just a little uncomfortable, a gentle massage. Not bad at all. Most of my midwives would just remind me to massage my own. So your uterus didn’t get mushy and bleed out??!

    • @lauranilsen8988
      @lauranilsen8988 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      By the way, I had 8. Only my first was in the hospital. They were prob a little tougher than the midwives. With my last I bled heavily 2 hours after the birth because we all relaxed and forgot to massage my uterus (including my midwife who was anxious to go home 🙄). Uterus was complete mush and I ended up passing out.

    The shakes I got BIG time and I even asked my Doctor if it was normal because it felt intense 😂
    I also didn’t know about the night sweats. I had my last baby five and a half years ago so I think a lot of this I just forgot. I had c sections so im not sure if its different the regular birth but loose clothes because the pain on ur tummy is nuts and dont be afraid to ask for someone to help u lift ur baby. Better to have help then accidently rip stiches or drop ur little one. A lesson i learned the hard way is if u come home after ur 2nd baby depending on how old ur first is dont pick them up straight away have someone help them sit with u if they cant climb on their own yet.

    The thing I wish I knew before giving birth is it’s okay to not produce breast milk right away after giving birth especially when you had C-section. I was so convinced that I could breastfeed my baby right after giving birth but my milk only came out 3 days postpartum. It’s been a month and I also realised that not everyone can produce enough milk for their babies. My milk was so little that my doctor had to prescribe me with milk booster yet it’s still so little I don’t even think my tiny baby will be full even if I pump it for 1hr.

    • @rb2k196
      @rb2k196 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could not be more wrong if you tried. Especially as a non-healthcare professional, it is NOT your place to be going around saying this, ESPECIALLY when it could harm people if they listened to it. They're also not done to encourage placental delivery, they are done AFTER delivering the placenta. There is NO EVIDENCE to suggest it increases risk for hemorrhaging and also the point of it is to PREVENT hemorrhaging, because it encourages contraction of the uterine muscles which in turn decreases excessive post-partum bleeding. It's also noted that any perceived increase to blood loss with fundal massages is the result of blood already pooled within the uterine cavity, which the massage helps to expel from the body (also important because it prevents clots from causing issues in there). Before you try to correct me, I initially trained in healthcare before transferring to wider science so I know how to actually search for evidence, interpret results and my sister-in-law is a head of Midwifery at our local hospital. I know what I'm talking about. You should seriously consider the harm you do to others by spreading incorrect information.
