Hey there! Mama of 4, bottle fed all 4, with two who needed oral therapy. I will leave a tl;dr on bottom. Speech pathologists love standard neck dr browns, and wide neck bottles like lansinoh, the evenflo bottle, for the reasons she mentions in this video. The WORST is is cotomo and any bottle that has a severe sudden slope. Now if you are mostly nursing its probably not as much of a concern as your baby gets great training while nursing and it probably wont matter as much if your baby refuses dr browns or a gradual slope bottle (I would still recommend staying away from como tomo.) Also, sippy cups- straw cups are excellent for development! It is a learning curve but speech therapists love them because of all the strength and training the lip formation and suction provides. The best ones are the ones with valves as they will give resistance. As far as pacifiers, all my kids have used tommee tippie and mam.My youngest was using cherry shaped like itzy ritzy aswell but i didnt like his latch. My oldest needed therapy because we think he had a weak suction from birth and being a new mom, i didnt know his symptoms were abnormal. He also spoke very well and very early so it took till 2.5 for me to reach out. My 3rd child had an underbite and bad latch. I made the mistake of giving him bottles with sudden slopes since I assumed less leaking meant better latch. He also had a tongue tie reattach and that made a major complication as well. He too learned to speak well and speak early, thankfully with my experience with my oldest I knew something was wrong when he was 9 months old and drowning on a sippy cup. I like to share about him speaking well because I had an ENT insist he didnt need a second tongue tie revision as he was speaking and eating. She claimed he was "not symptomatic.' Well theres far more to it than speaking and being able to swallow food. haha but anyway!
TLDR: DR Browns, Lansinoh, Evenflo balance plus (wide and standard.) Basically anything standard neck or with gradual slope are the best options along with the slowest nipple flow. Ive had kids need oral and feeding therapy and tried to learn as best I could.

It’s funny because the first one LOOKS more like a breast. However, the second one acts more like a breast in that it is malleable and fits into the baby’s mouth. We use the lasinoh bottles when we do use them.

Sometimes brands will send a sample of their product for people to try out, whether for a review like this or just to give them an idea of how they feel about the product in the hopes they'll like it and buy more (think like the perfume samples in magazines years ago).
I'm expecting a baby at the beginning of August, and there are a lot of baby brands that either have samples or coupons they'll send expecting mothers for free just for signing up for a registry or emails from their site. Target, for example, gives you a small bag full of various product promos if you create a registry with them, so I've been able to try things like individual serving packs of stretchmark lotion, formula, and I even have two small bottles from two different brands I'm now gonna check with this trick.

I wish I had known this before I had my daughter last year 😢 She was in the NICU for a month after a traumatic birth experience & had a hard time eating. We tried breastfeeding hour after hour until we were both exhausted. We had to use a bottle & she was also on a feeding tube until she could learn to eat on her own. Pumping in those early days in the hospital was rough. We both kept trying to learn how to breastfeed from the source. We used nipple shields of every size, shape & texture, & kept at it until I had to finally come to terms with the idea that breastfeeding wasn't going to happen for us. I'm grateful we both still bonded & sooo thankful I could at least give her my breast milk in whatever way we got it into her! And I will say, once we were all home & my milk was plentiful & I was in bed exhausted, it was sort of nice to have the hubby & grandma's do feedings while I got the much much needed uninterrupted sleep 😴 💤 My daughter just turned 1. She is a very happy, healthy, loving, sweet baby girl & I thank God every day he gave me my 1 & only miracle baby. ❤ I wish I could have more children & apply what I learned with the first, but it isn't in the cards for us.

You're just nitpicking. She went through both bottles' shapes and explained why one shape is not good, and one shape is idea. In this day and age, she really doesn't need to EXPLICITLY verbally say "____ is better". It's the context of the video, so if you watch it from beginning to end, it is very very clear which bottle nipple shape is the ideal for a baby's mouth. Your last statement shows that you grasp the primary message, too. So you did get the same answer I got from the video.

Among my cousins and peers, I was the first to have kids...
Prior to my own pregnancy, the only pregnancies i had ever seen were those of our dogs and cats...😂
Now when, we had to buy bottles for feeding, (i used to pump too), I had thought about this factor of suction. Mind you, I have studied physics and i love it. So i kind of was thinking about something that would help in suction and not cause tiredness to the muscles of the lips for the baby. So i used the regular long tapered nipple ones...
My babies would switch easily between bottle and breast and i could feed them for about 3.5 years.
Why i mentioned the peers/cousins fact at the beginning was that once the others started having kids, if i ever gave any advice regarding feeding patterns I was shot down saying "oh those are the old ways/the round ones are better/etc"
Needless to say, their children were fed for a basic of 6 months and another 6 months struggling and that too irregularly.
P.S.: I am Indian and not giving advice or helping your female family members during and after pregnancy is frowned upon. So it wasn't the case of unsolicited advice.

Nope you don’t. As mentioned that can leave your baby chomp chom chomping on your nipples. The video of the gradual slope says it will encourage their feeding muscles to develop similar to how they feed at the breast. Remember shaped like a triangle with a gradual slope is best ❤

So which brand is the one you recommend? I know the Como Tomo but I don't recognize the other. TIA.
Edit: Found it! For anyone interested it is Evenflo brand. Very affordable also, Walmart has a 2 pack for under $10. According to her recommendations Emulait has a good one also but they're much more expensive, $30 ea. To me, and I'm not a nurse, they look even more breastlike than the Evenflo but IDK if they'd actually be any better or if so if they're so much better that it would justify the price.

Where can I find the one with the white bottle? I can't find it online. My baby is 13 days old, and I'm struggling with her latching, and I think that one would help a lot. Also, is there a nipple that has a slower flow rate than a 1? It comes out the corners of her mouth and runs down her cheeks. She does gag and cough from it occasionally.

Introducing a breastfed baby to the bottle....
    😂😂😂 right. 🤣🤣😔
I way over-produced, and consequently had a freezer full of breastmilk with this fantasy in mind that I'd be able to leave my baby with someone else while I got just a tiny bit of sanity time. Not until she was over two years old. (Actually all of my kids categorically refused bottles, even with breastmilk.) They were NOT having it, and I tried so many different types.
I do wish these sorts of bottles would have been available to try in the late 80s through the mid-90s.
Ended up giving away all that frozen milk (plus the additional 10-20 oz/day I pumped fresh) to a La Leche League leader that had adopted a malnourished toddler (we were stationed in the Philippines at the time).

PLEASE be aware of your babies needs. My son was breastfed, but had sensory issues so was VERY picky about his bottle and pacifier. He preferred the cheapest ones. We never had any complications with breastfeeding despite using both. I was stressed and that's the last thing nursing moms need. While this might be helpful, sometimes your baby needs something else and that's okay. Fed babies and low stress moms are the healthiest!!

I'm not gonna lie, I've always stuck with Avent bottles just because they're easier to use and clean. I never have much thought to how the baby had to transition between boob and bottle. But it never seemed to be an issue with any of them. (I have 3.) 🤷🏻‍♀️

My son rejected all bottles except the Evenflo balance and the tried and true playtex nurser bottle with the natural latch nipple and that was it...we went through months of hell and over 9 bottles being rejected..and we gave a bottle from day one..then boom at one month of having one bottle a day..he rejected them alllllll. The Evenflo balance and playtex nurser bottles saved my life. The Evenflo was easier to get my hands on and less parts to wash..so i loved them and my son didn't get feeding fatigue from them.

I wish I had this 10 years ago when I was desperately trying to get my breastfed baby to take a bottle before her open heart surgery. It was horrible. In the end, she only had to take a bottle for 1 day in the PICU because I bothered them non-stop to let me try to hold her and nurse her. She was back to the breast in 1 day and was so much happier.

My week and a half baby boy is breastfed, but my birthday is Thursday and I'm hoping to set my sister up with a bottle and some milk I leaked into my Boone cups while we go on a dinner date. Thanks for the tip! We have only fed him by bottle twice, and we used the Dr. Browns premie flow nipple. I like this better so he can transition back easier. He did sick on just my nipple after using that bottle!

PS, those "good" bottles are Evenflos. Besides being natural shape for breastfed baby, they also have a valve integrated into the nipple so only come in 3 pieces to clean instead of Dr. Brown or Tommy Tippy which have like 6 or 7.
    And they're cheap. Highly recommend.
