Just discovered Eric Whitacre while listening to NPR this afternoon. This is so amazing and I'm so glad to have discovered this. I'm absolutely mesmerized by the beauty of this virtual choir!
Coming back to this video as an inspiring way to connect to other performers now that we're so isolated from one another with theatres, concert halls, and ballets being closed due to COVID-19. It's hard as performers not to be able to perform - but if live performances are postponed for a while, at least Eric Whitacre gave us a beautiful model of how to still connect with each other and an audience.

I know EXACTLY what you meant by "black and white ... technicolor". I was in choral and concert choir in high school and it was ...fun. the voices were okay, and the music was pretty, but it was kind've plodding if you get my meaning. And then I was lucky enough to audition and make it into my state's "All State Classical Vocals". It's high schoolers from all across the state that are chosen as the best of the best. Sorry, a bit off track. Anyway, I was honored to be chosen and I learned the music before the gathering and group practice, but I was expecting more of the same "high school experience". NO, SIR. From the first group warmup, the conductor taught us a specific harmony in quasi-sectionals and then combined us back together. The thunderous (not loud, but deeeep) basses were nearly shaking the room, while the sopranos and tenors generated an overtone like bells in the rafters, and the altos posted a strong but sweet anchor to the melody. ...it was like standing in a waterfall of harmony. It was beautiful. It's the most beautiful thing I ever heard.

Ok, now that I'm just about moved to tears after watching the two full videos of the virtual choirs, when's auditions for 3.0????? (Also just wanted to say, I'm such a huge fan of your work, Mr. Whitacre. Ever since I sang Lux Arumque for All District Choir my sophomore year of high school, you have had me hooked.)
We did Seal Lullaby in my small music class choir. We only had 6 people but listening to us high school students singing this, with only a few of us being actual singers, it nearly moved me to tears the first time we sung it through. He is an amazing and magical composer.
In band for our spring concert we played the wind ensemble adaption of Lux Arumque, and while it wasn't nearly as exciting as some of the stuff we were used to playing, it was so beautiful. The amount of emotion that can be put through an ensemble (even a small one like ours) is incredible. That piece was just pure emotion, peace, a sort of silent beauty. I love it so much.

Not all people are the same religion... But it would still be cool
The story is as beautiful as the music. This is truly the best use of a technology that connects the world. I have no idea how this found it's way into my recommended list, but I'm glad it did.
Just as, if not more, relevant in these times. Always good for a smile
I've got chills. This is epic. It's like angels coming together to pass on the voice of God. 😮🙏❤️ Amazing.
This talk is so significant today. We can't be with each other, but it doesn't mean we can't touch each other.
So glad there is music and singing.
We did Seal Lullaby in my small music class choir. We only had 6 people but listening to us high school students singing this, with only a few of us being actual singers, it nearly moved me to tears the first time we sung it through. He is an amazing and magical composer.
They all sound like angels in heaven :)
It's called reverb
I just cried.😪
These angelic sounds really just affected my soul as I heard this.
Truly amazing.
the quote about the sisters finally singing together again immediately made me tear up haha
I am 13 and living in England. In my school choir we are singing Whitacre's 'When David Heard' at our christmas concert. It is a great thought to think how on the other side of the world to him we can be a part of his music and so can the audience.
This gives me chills! That's incredible!
Shivers and shivers and shivers. Such a pristine beauty...beams of light shining through the tops of forest trees, motes dancing in the golden warmth... Truly magical.
The result is a thousand times sweeter and denser than any type of vocal layering. .
So beautiful, I was in tears at the first note. Amazing work & congratulations to all for a job well done. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I can not carry a tune to save my life, so I’ll just wait till I get to heaven. When GOD made HIS plan for you HE included a talent in creating the gathering of these voice so the world would have an idea of what heaven’s angelical choir sounds like. Your blessed ♥️
I want to sing along with them but I am too choked up! This affirmation of the beauty of the human soul and the universality of our desire to connect and share ourselves is crystal beauty. I can't wait to sing in the heavenly choir with all of you one day!

i think that this is one of the best TED Talks. Music can unite people to create beauty.
Imagine the human race one day singing the same song as one... Imagine what we could do.
Sound is the greatest power in the universe.
The amazing things people can do when we find harmony with one another.
this getting recommended to people in Christmas 2019
Yep
Beautiful. I'd love too hear this as angel's over the manger in Bethlehem. Breath taking!
THIS IS BEAUTIFUL
IM CRYIN IN THE CLUB
Absolutely stunning...brought me to tears in remembrance of my dearest mother who recently passed...thank you
