  • Recreate the Lovevery The Companion Playkit with better value! The Companion playkit for 22-24 months can be recreated for $60 with some time and creativity. The dupes for this Lovevery box may be our best value finds to date! With our toddlers engaging more in pretend and open ended play, is there a need to spend $120 for Montessori inspired materials, or can we turn to what we have at home to fulfill those developmental needs? A lot to discuss this week and a lot of savings to be had with our Lovevery comparable dupes this week!
We're returning to the "Make your own Montessori inspired play kits" series and taking a look at Lovevery's 'The Companion' Play Kit for 22-24 Months. We finally come across some item to picture matching opportunities in this play kit. If you still haven't seen it, we recently discussed Montessori matching activities in details in this video here! • WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ...
As is often the case, this activity would have been great to have several play kits ago and definitely something we can recreate at home for next to no cost.
Our Lovevery dupe Montessori-inspired play kit allows your child to work the exact same skills, while reserving a budget for additional items that can support their growing interest in Practical Life activities and language explosion!
As always, whether you choose to subscribe to Lovevery, another play kit service, buy these on your own, or DIY--do what works best for your family! Please remember that whatever you choose for your family is absolutely fine as well :)

This is definitely the kit I would skip - we had it, like most lovevery kits but always sell the items in the kits that our daughter is not interested in or the items that frustrate her. The only piece we still have is the book and even that is not amongst her favorites.
I would go even further - the knobbed cylinders are nice to have but recreating the included posting activity is easy to DIY with thick and thin straws. Our daughter loved that a lot more.
The buckle barrel is actually not a good design for a beginner IMO. The buckles are quite tight. Our daughter learned how to buckle with her doll stroller (as you mentioned - I'm glad we introduced a lot of the items early as around the suggested age of the kit, our daughter switched to a much bigger interest in building and pretend play, mostly ignoring any other activities). IMO, the barrel is really only interesting for toddlers that mastered buckling as an on the go distraction - it's too frustrating otherwise.
The 4 piece puzzle does seem interesting but I have yet to meet a child that is actually interested in it. Second hand selling sites confirm that as they are swamped with that puzzle for relatively low prices compared to what other Lovevery items resell for. I had a variety of first jigsaw puzzles I tried with our daughter and the wooden Melissa and Doug was chunky enough, easy enough and interesting to our daughter to actually gravitate towards.

Thank you for your insights! Very interesting to hear how this kit worked (and didn't work) for your family. I definitely agree-the buckle barrel seems to be more of a "on the go fidget toy" design vs one designed to learn the activity. Our baby stroller is another place we love to practice buckling as well!
Spot on with the straws DIY too! And very interesting to learn about the puzzle. I feel that Stella too wouldn't be interested in it since, again, it's not making SOMETHING or finishing a picture of something. We have one of the "front and back" first puzzles and she's very intrigued, but still struggling to get the hand movement down with the thin puzzle material. I was looking into getting that Melissa and Doug version as a scaffold for her so I'm glad to hear you found it worked well.
The book is a really interesting one in my opinion in that it will really depend on how relatable the concept of a party is to the child. We just had our first outdoor play date yesterday with Stella. I doubt the contents of the book would be relatable to her, though she'd certainly enjoy seeing other kids. I heard that Lovevery added a book subscription option to get some of thw books they'd previously removed. I hope they eventually open up JUST the book subscription option. While many of the toys are not necessarily something I see a need for in our personal collection, their books are definitely interesting!

@@MariaandMontessori Absolutely. The books are THE reason we always continued the subscription. I think the reason our daughter isn't overly interested in this particular book, is because the concept of a party is not overly familiar to her (there is a color aspect to the book but she has more interesting books about colors). She was on one bigger 2 year birthday party so far and didn't enjoy it at all. One of the later kits has a book about a playdate and she absolutely loves that - it includes a tantrum due to taking turns/sharing, which really helped our daughter with her similar tantrums.
We already got the new book subscription and received the ones from past kits. They are all also so good. The one year additional books are really just a price hike (they used to be included but now cost an additional $18 - so I'm glad we already got them before the changes with the kits). But we are really enjoying all the other new books. Particularly the potty books are so good.

Love these videos. We were gifted the 1-2 year boxes and it's always interesting to me which toys my daughter gravitates towards and which she shows no interest in. I love that Stella is just enough older that your videos come out before we get the boxes. This means that in the future, assuming you continue the series, I may purchase the 2-3 year kits based on your video comparisons rather than buying the whole year's worth of boxes up front.

Omg please make more of these!!! My husband thinks it’s ridiculous for the price, I really want to try one, but it’s just so expensive and I have two kids so it would be about 240 just for two boxes. This video was so helpful!!!! ❤

I'll absolutely keep making these 🥰 So happy to know it was helpful!! May I ask what ages your kids are or what boxes you're looking for? I have a video for all the boxes up through this one in the playlist!

Aw shoot. We got this kit because this video wasn’t out yet and out kiddo loves the matching (we do sorting and other things with it) and mosaic and book and is okay with the tweezers but the barrel and puzzle haven’t even been touched. My three year old friend loves those though so of course it depends on the kids. The book though…we love that book so much!

So interesting to see the different experiences with the kits! I typically film these when Stella is at the start of the age range since we're usually already working on those activities anyway, but this time around, she was just so much more interested in literally anything else that I wanted to wait and see if that changed 👀 And it didn't 😅 I think if we were to get the kit, most of it would just sit idly on the shelf for all 3 months except perhaps the buckle barrel. But she's very particular about what she uses for practice with that, so I have a feeling that design wouldn't appeal to her at this age yet either.
The next play kit, however, is definitely one that I think I can work on much earlier in the age range, so that will be out soon I think 😉

I love ALL your videos so much! Would you recommend investing in a color printer? Do you have one you recommend that can print Montessori materials for matching etc.

    • @MariaandMontessori
      @MariaandMontessori  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thank you! I do find it very useful to have a color printer at home for making Montessori materials. I have a fairly old printer that my parents passed down to me years ago that I've hung on to, so I haven't calculated the cost of a new printer vs heading over to the library or FedEx to print. But mine is the HP Officejet 4650. No longer for sale but if you go to the HP website, they show the modern day alternatives, which appear to be under $200. The black + color ink combo is about $50. For what it's worth, I've printed a LOT of cards and haven't had to replace the ink (so much so that now that it's out, I'm just realizing I don't have a backup 🤣). I also used it to print the full page photos I use for her room decor

Thank you for the video! I'm not into lovevery playkits, but I love your comments and suggestions. But where are you? Keep refreshing your TH-cam channel for new videos or shorts and you post so rarely lately 😔

Truly appreciate your support 🥺 The weight of the past 2 years, and the recent events in the world, here in the states, and Chicago as well, have really been been heavy in my mind. I'm entering my 3rd and final year as a stay at home mom, after which Stella will hopefully attend school. But in the past 1+ years that I've been on TH-cam, my own health and the state of our home has really come to a standstill as I spend 20+ hours on each video, which is every free moment I have. I was working on a new schedule when we had some more news come up in our family that really highlighted how precious every single minute is that we have with our loved ones. Stella has become much more aware of the fact that I'm filming and I never want that to become her focus or her main impression of what is important to me either. I'm still here and have footage of outdoor activities and 21-24 month activities to edit and put out, but it's taking time to find the right balance without sacrificing quality and integrity, as well as Stella's safety. I hoped to at least maintain weekly shelf updates as shorts, but the reality is that most of our days have been filled with pretend play, mega blocks, and outdoor time. I didn't feel it honest to upload shelf updates when the shelf was getting little to no use. We finally have had an interest in this new rotation, so I did post that!

@@MariaandMontessori I totally understand you and thank you for your reply. I really love your videos and I find them very informative with a lot of information compressed in a 20 minutes video, very well done. I watch multiple time to your video to get the info I need. I'm here whenever you post, liking and commenting, because I really appreciate your hard work. Please don't feel any pressure, do what's the best for you and your family!
